But does it work with the factory amp?

Just a guess but an amp that barely thumps a $2 6 1/2" sub probably won't do much for a higher performance 10", but i could be wrong.

Your logic is right on the money. To fully enjoy the benefits of this subwoofer you need much more power than currently available and then some. I've been in the mobile electronics industry for a very long time; I started out selling and installing four (4) track tape players (OK, I admit that I'm old), I've owned three retail car stereo store and I'm now on the wholesale side importing my own line of audio and video products. I'm working on the design of my own system with the objective being that I want to retain a very clean and uncluttered look and not interfere with the utility of the vehicle (no huge subwoofer box taking up all of the space behind me). I'm going to replace the stock head unit with the new Alpine 9820 that has the XM satellite tuner built into it (eliminating the need to install a seperate receiver box somewhere), a one half (1/2) DIN fully motorized 7" video monitor that has a television tuner built-in and a one half (1/2) DIN DVD/CD/CD-RW/MP3 player. These are all very trick new units due to be available here by March (give or take). In addition, new speakers (still deciding) in existing factory locations, new subwoofer (custom fabricated to look stock but do what its supposed to do the way its supposed to do it) and a great amplifier (like the two half DIN units in the dash - my own brand: Blackmore Mobile). I'm not certain whether or not I address rear seat entertainment since I have no kids or anyone else who rides in the back. The only reason would be to show off (maybe I'll just install a roof mounted 15.2" monitor). Due to product availability this project will be done in a few months.

I agree on one thing, but not another. I agree that to get the full benefits of the 10", a new amp will be needed. I bought my E to use for hauling stuff and being utilitarian. I don't want to have amps in the back or a sub box in the back that I have to take out. That's why I'm really interested in this StealthBox. My other car is a Honda Del Sol. Talk about no space for anything! But, I did manage a 9 speaker (components front and rear, 10" sub in trunk) custom stereo install with an Alpine MP3 head unit and custom amp rack. With space at a premium, I opted to use a 5-channel Alpine amp for everything. I don't get as much power for the sub as I did when I had the 400 watt driving it alone, but it sounds really good in the car. I have to say it ties for first with the best sound system I've ever built. I also don't want to be one of those guys who you can hear 3 blocks away. I want quality of sound, not "boom". So, I'm thinking a similiar 5-channel amp would work nicely with this Stealthbox, with the amp under one of the front seats in the E...

What I disagre with is that the stock amp barely thumps. Granted, it's not great, but I have gotten a really nice sound out of it simply by changing head units. I went with an Alpine 9807 (yes, I'm partial) with the MX sound processor. The only stock thing about my stereo is the amp and sub. The factory sub sounds much better now, to the point that my friends all thought I changed it out with something bigger. Granted, it probably won't last another year, but for now it sounds much better. My point is that the factory head unit sucks that much! My E sounds really nice now just by changing speakers and head unit....

i think im gonna go for the jl 300/2 (amp) for the stealthbox. the power rating matches the 10w3v2 in the box, and the size is perfect. i already have a jl 500/1 under the drivers seat for the 15 in the back (but thats for like 60hz and below. I want the stealthbox for midbass up front AND for when i take the 15 out of the back for a gig (which is usually 2 or 3 times a week). the 500/1 is almost too wide to go under the seat, but if kept in the back end of that area its fine. the 300/2 is smaller. its prolly gona have to go under that seat in the front part because the brain for my pioneer avh-p7500dvd and xm tuner are under the other seat (and i had to cut to get there). im still trying to figure out where to put the navi for the pioneer. IM RUNNING OUT OF SPACE!!!

Denru, since you have been in the biz for a long time and know all about hooking up stuff to get the proper sound, let me ask you this; I want to use my CB radio that I no longer use because I am a ham and the ham radio does not have the feature of a PA hookup. Of course in the past I hooked up the pa speaker under the hood and ran it directly to the output of the radio, where it was fairly loud. But can I use one of those 300/400/500/etc amps used for thump/bump music that the kids run and make a much LOUDER PA by using the aforementioned amp and would it have to be hooked up any special way, or no diff than any other way, with output from the CB going to just one side of the amp and going OUT just one side of the amp? (please excuse the long running question.) Then would I use a better speaker than the typical PA horn to get that sound out?

Thanks for your advice from a grey haired almost old man, also.

Ger

If my memory serves me correctly, I seem to remember a $400 MSRP.
I'll look elsewhere besides the formal retail chains of distribution or wait a little while for a better deal. I figure a better deal will be about 25% less or about $300.

I could pay $300, if I could remove the rug covering and discover a nice dark gray or black plastic surface underneath. :)
