: Who gets the $ for Dealer Holdback & Floorplan Assistanc

Just started the negotiation process for 2004 EXS AWD automatic and am getting internet quotes from several dealers in UT, NV, and Northern AZ. I've got invoice plus $300 in my head as a fair price. I think $300 to the salesman for > 1 hour of work is fair compensation. Am I wrong???

My questions are these:

Does the salesman receive any of the dealer holdback money ($640 on my particular vehicle)?

Dealers receive floorplan assistance directly from Honda. If they order a E from the factory and sell it the day it arrives how much is the floorplan assistance? Is that per day, per month, or a flat rate per vehicle? Does the salesman recieve any of the floorplan assistance?

Finally, is invoice plus $300 without additional dealer fees a fair price to both me and the dealer? I don't want to take food out of the mouth of their children but I don't want them to do the same to me?

There sure is a lot of confusion out there...

Holdback is NOT bottom line profit. It HELPS pay for flooring. If you pay 300.00 over invoice (assuming they will take that little), the salesperson does not make 300.00! Probably 100.00.

It's really the prevailing market that determines what cars sell for and not what the dealer happened to pay for that car.

I'm going to quote a quote I have on my wall.

Speed and quailty cost money.
How much can you afford.

Also if your paying that for a 04 Element I think below invoice is good. Maybe that on a new 06 Element.
