My gas milage dramatically improved during the first 5000 miles. Sometimes I get 27 mpg. My average is about 24 mpg. This held true until the Winter arrived. Now I waste much fuel warming up my car with my remote starter.
I did notice that when I do much highway driving (at 70 mph) my mpg plummets. I suspect that the areodynamics of this boxy car greatly decreases its fuel efficiency at high speeds.
I live in rural NH. I can travel most of a tank full of gas doing maximum speeds of 45 mph. This is when I peak at 27 mpg.
I like my Element.
When I go skiing, I easily can put on my ski gear in the vehicle.
