: Revised 2010 East Coast National Meet, 7/29/10 to 8/2/10, RSVP list!!
magoosmc 06-15-2010, 10:44 AM Does this mean we have a definite for at least 4 people to go to Curtiss and than do a little wine tasting???
I would suggest we do this on Friday or Saturday. I know we are going to be arriving by Thursday.
What are your thoughts magoosmc????
Ahhhh.. I can't think right now - I've been drinking wine and flying airplanes..
Actually, I have to go to the museum this afternoon. I will see what is involved. I believe that prior notification of a "visiting EOC group" qualifies for a reduced rate for any and all who show up over the course of the weekend, whether or not they show at the same time. (the admission is only a few bucks). A group wine tour with a bit of special attention requires a pre-determined time of arrival. Most wineries stop giving tours at 4pm. Fridays are good because the peak season is not yet underway, but how many people would want to get settled in, then try to make it to a winery before 2:30ish? Saturdays get busy in the afternoon, so the earlier the better. I recommend Bully Hill for "madcap fun" or Heron Hill for ambiance. Both have food available. If we get some kind of general consensus I will go ahead and set it up. Lemme know...
NismoGriff 06-15-2010, 12:07 PM I would check out the planes....Juanita would check out the wine. I will check with her later to confirm, but I think you can count us in.
Tim Vance 06-15-2010, 12:16 PM we've already said we'll be there early friday morning...Elaine will probably go along with whatever everyone else is doing....
Does this mean we have to drive back the way we've come?
ramblerdan 06-15-2010, 04:36 PM > Does this mean we have to drive back the way we've come?
Yes, but not nearly as far!
Tim Vance 06-15-2010, 05:43 PM well
That's ok then
wickedhuff 06-16-2010, 03:54 PM well

Who are you kidding...it's wine, you're in!! :)
So am I. In fact, I'm in right now and it's not even 5pm! :) I heart wine. This camping trip can't come fast enough..
And Lorrie, you know you're excited to share a site with me!!! I've got tie-dye!! :)
bh045ct 06-16-2010, 09:00 PM I got tie dye. It's a Woodstock reunion t shirt from 10 years ago or so. Who else has tie dye???
Wine thing and airplanes we are in!!!!!!!!!!!

cai88 06-16-2010, 09:40 PM This whole trip is not looking good for us after today :( Rick needs back surgery that will take him out of work for 6 weeks. Since I just went back to work after maternity this is going to kill us financially. Keep your fingers crossed for a miracle.
ramblerdan 06-16-2010, 10:11 PM Sorry to hear, Carly. Will keep fingers crossed.
bh045ct 06-16-2010, 10:15 PM Anything we can do for you and Rick just let us know.
magoosmc 06-19-2010, 08:11 AM There are a few options.. The admission is $7, $5 for a group. A "group" can register and pay in advance and qualify for a tour guide at a specific time and date. Or a registered group can show up whenever and wander around on their own, or just show up individually, throughout a specified day and those who have registered get the discounted admission. In short, you're saving two bucks if you register a group.
On an unhappy note, I have watched them reconstruct the Albany Flyer for two years. They took it out for the first test flight yesterday and the engine stalled. The pilot survived but received a broken leg. The plane did not survive.
My mission for the weekend will be to FORCE myself to go winery hopping, making sure that the wines are up to EOC standards. I will collect tour info and try to negotiate a VIP tasting. I will report back when I can see to type.
ramblerdan 06-20-2010, 01:26 PM Oooh, that's a shame. Are you sure the engine stalled (wouldn't be surprising for an original OX-5), or the wings stalled? An engine-out landing needn't end in a wreck, especially in such a benign-looking field as that one. OTOH it's common when an aircraft has a stall-and-spin crash (which does typically wreck a plane) for a reporter, hearing "the aircraft stalled," to write "engine stalled" in the story.
magoosmc 06-20-2010, 04:11 PM According to one of the guys in the restoration shop the engine (90 hp OX5) quit while the pilot was in a banking turn, 40 - 50 feet above the ground. More properly stated - the engine quit and the wings stalled with no altitude left to recover. The pilot, Jim Poel, is an outstanding pilot and has flown at lot of these Curtiss planes. He said the airplane was "slippery" and like flying a kite. The planes from the shop are all authentic, using 100 year old technology. The bamboo was from the same source that Curtiss used and the tires were a special order from Germany. I think the pilots cojones are made of solid brass...

Just a reminder for anyone who wants to attend, but haven't made reservations at Stony Fork Campground, time is running short. Meet starts in 35 days. But who is counting.
Make your reservations, Would like to see lots of elements with owners.
Should be a lot of fun. Don't forget to bring your kite. I have a couple of extras that I bought at the Christmas Tree Shop.
Looks like some of us might be heading to the Curtiss Air Museum and than a little wine tasting. Day to be determined.
wickedhuff 06-30-2010, 06:29 AM And it's offically less than a month away!!
I'm not going to lie, I'm wicked excited for this trip! I haven't been camping since Jurn's, so I'm overdue!!
In some sad news....my sister took her Barbie tent back...I know, hold back your tears!! I'll have to camp in my 'grown up' tent this time (thank you Justin for that!)
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone...and the wine tasting :) Maybe not so much the tasting, but more just the drinking of the wine..
Is anyone else bringing their kayak?
Lorrie420 06-30-2010, 04:53 PM And it's offically less than a month away!!

No Barbie tent? You'll have to find another site to camp at!! Just kidding  The other tent is tye-dye right? LOL
We could bring our kayaks if there is a nice slow moving water (we are beginners) place to go.
bh045ct 07-01-2010, 09:59 AM Update:: I have bought plates(dixie heavy duty), cups(solo), plastic utensils and napkins. I will also bring a couple of vinyl table coverings.
After the 4th I will get mustard(yellow & other types), ketchup, relish, mayo, pickles, salt, pepper, trash bags. Anything that will not go stale or needs refrigeration.
Once on location I will pick up chips, salsa and hotdog/hamburger rolls
Any suggestions/request for other items that I should pick up.
So far I have about $75 committed in donations. So whatever is left over I can pick up whatever else we need.
I am getting excited about the meet and seeing everyone. Very disappointed that the Barbie tent will not be there.
If you still undecided I hope you will come. Please make your reservation or try to hook up with someone on their site.
To make check in easier I will work with Randy about who is staying with who on the various sites. And work with him to avoid any extra people charges per site.
28 days to fun and non stop laughing.
Justinb845 07-02-2010, 09:12 AM I so cant wait for this
Think I am going to have Smudge fitted for concrete shoes so that way I know where he is when I get home LOL
Jake_62 07-03-2010, 07:13 AM Can somebody PLEASE make this time go by faster!
cai88 07-05-2010, 01:46 PM Wicked, Do you wanna borrow our Over the hedge tent? lol
bh045ct 07-08-2010, 02:58 PM Ok, time is getting closer.
I think everyone should bring what they are going to eat plus maybe something for a potluck on Friday or Saturday. I am sure there will be enough food to feed a couple of armies.
Don't forget I will be bringing condiments ketchup, relish, mustard, mayo etc. Let me know if there are other condiments you would like me to purchase. I was planning on picking up some hot dog/hamburger rolls for everyone. Also will pick up some chips, etc.
I have the plates, napkins, plastic ware, cups(cold) need to get some insulated cups for coffee/tea drinkers.
I don't plan bringing a lot of food, but will buy locally
Breakfast: Last year Mel and Elaine made some excellent eggs benedict. So anyone want to suggest breakfast or just go with the flow.
I understand there are some excellent restuarants in Wellsboro.
Thoughts!!!!!!!!!!!

bh045ct 07-10-2010, 08:59 AM I know a few of you are into geo-caching. As a mentioned before there is also letterboxing. I just found this site for those interested. There are a few in the Wellsboro PA area. Lot's of great info about letterboxing. I just may have to take up this activity.

this article was in today Boston Globe
Think inside the box
Part scenic hike, part clue-filled mystery, letterboxing is collecting fans
By Joseph P. Kahn, Globe Staff | July 10, 2010
ANDOVER — The clues weren’t hard to puzzle out. Locate the southbound trail entrance to the Charles Ward Reservation. Follow the boardwalk toward the bog, noting two trail-marker numbers that are out of sequence. Double back, adding up the marker numbers to determine how many strides to go past the north trail fork. Stop, face eastward.
Hidden behind a log was a small waterproof case — Letterbox No. 78269, celebrating National Trails Day 2008 — left there by hobbyists who call themselves the Merry Pranksters. Inside were a hand-carved rubber stamp, logbook, and notecard explaining more about letterboxing, “an intriguing pastime combining artistic ability with delightful ‘treasure hunts’ in beautiful, scenic places,’’ as the card described it.
Peter Colombo, the trail guide on this particular expedition, used two other descriptives: sport and hobby. “Sport because of the hiking involved,’’ said Colombo, a Wakefield optician and Andover resident whose trail name is Prankster Pete. “And hobby being the stamp carving, clue making, and collecting part.’’
However one categorizes it, letterboxing — a low-cost, low-tech, eco-friendly activity with a large Web presence — has caught on big time, attracting everyone from empty-nesters and hiking enthusiasts to urban treasure hunters and families seeking to inject a little more adventure into their walks in the woods. It’s the antithesis of another sort of treasure hunting called geocaching, which is a high-tech version in which participants use GPS devices to locate hidden items. In geocaching, latitudinal and longitudinal coordinates lead a player to the hidden cache. With letterboxing, the player must decipher clues in order to find the general area where the prized object has been secreted away.
According to www.atlasquest.com, a popular letterboxing website, some 100,000 letterboxes are stashed somewhere around the globe — with 23,000 Atlas Quest members hunting for them, high and low. Letterboxing North America (www.letterboxing.org), another website, claims more than 44,400 members. Letterboxing events are ubiquitous, too, one being held today at Harold Parker State Forest in North Andover. Organizers promise plenty of clever clues and event-appropriate letterboxes for the gathering, which so far has logged 144 registrants.
“It does get a little obsessive,’’ admitted Yvonne DeBor of Bellingham, who in two years of hunting has collected nearly 500 stamps. DeBor, who plans to attend the North Andover event, has lost 80 pounds since taking up letterboxing. “It’s literally transformed my life.’’
How exactly does one go about letterboxing? Hobbyists recommend a basic starter’s kit consisting of a blank logbook, rubber stamp (store bought or hand-carved), ink pad, and pen. A compass is also recommended, since clues will often indicate a specific direction for hunters to follow. Pack bug spray, too, letterboxers say, especially in New England at this time of year. Trail nicknames are popular though optional, identifying a letterboxer the way a CB-radio handle does a trucker.
Boxes can be found in city parks, state conservation lands, or other places to which the public has ready access. In urban environs, they might be tucked away in cemeteries, playgrounds, or even hollowed-out library books (with librarians’ permission, of course). Off-limits, according to letterboxing etiquette, are private property, national parks, and other locations where box-hunting could be construed as trespassing.
Across North America there are an estimated 50,000 letterboxes hidden away. Clues to their whereabouts are listed on websites, published in catalogs, or passed along by word of mouth. Locations are listed by region, state, city, and town, providing letterboxers (or simply “boxers’’) with the chance to explore new territories while building their collections. Clues vary widely in creativity and difficulty. Some would not baffle your average third-grader; others might stump a CIA operative. Boxes may be linked by theme or by a series of clues that lead boxers from one to another to another until the whole set is collected.
When a letterbox is located, its contents — a logbook and customized stamp, typically — are removed. The box’s signature stamp is imprinted in the visitor’s logbook, making a permanent record of the find. The boxer then stamps his or her own insignia into the logbook, sometimes adding a personal note as well. The process takes only a few minutes, after which the box is restored to its hiding place and all traces of the visit erased as much as possible. Secrecy is prized, littering and vandalism strongly disapproved of.
Letterboxing traces its origins to 19th-century England, when hikers in and around the Dartmoor area began leaving letters or postcards (hence the name) for other hikers to find, collect, and sometimes forward to one another by mail. This quaint if obscure pastime was featured in a 1998 Smithsonian magazine article that caught the attention of US hikers and hobbyists. Letterboxes now come in several varieties, including traditional, so-called mystery boxes (vague clues, hard to find), hitchhikers (carried from one location to another), and postals (sent by mail to a select group of people).
Boxers tend to speak about their hobby in evangelical terms.
“I call it going out walking with a purpose,’’ said Larry Dysart, a retired software engineer living in North Reading. Dysart and his wife, Mary Lou, heard about letterboxing two years ago from their daughter, who lives in Minnesota and thought it might be a fun pastime for the couple to enjoy with their young grandchildren. The Dysarts have since collected more than 430 stamps, the majority found within a 10-mile radius of their house.
“One nice thing for retirees like us, it keeps you physically active and is more fun than going to the gym,’’ said Mary Lou Dysart. “Plus, it gets you to places you wouldn’t normally go, even in your own backyard. And you have to use your brain.’’
Brandie Simms of Berwick, Maine, has been boxing for four years, often accompanied by her three children, now aged 16, 12, and 9. Simms has also taken Scout troops on many a boxing expedition en route piling up some impressive statistics: 1,100 stamps collected; more than 200 boxes created and hidden. On a recent weekend, she joined 60 fellow enthusiasts in Connecticut for two days of hiking, boxing, and recalling great finds — and great times. Said Simms, “It’s free, it’s healthy, it takes you outdoors, and you even learn some history of the places you go.’’ The artistry of stamp-carving makes letterboxing all that much cooler, she added.
Colombo, a gifted stamp carver and well-known figure in the local letterboxing community, has personally collected 1,200 stamps and created 250 more, one for a letterbox he hid at the top of a ski slope.
“I’m not the type of person who goes on vacation and sits on the beach,’’ Colombo said. “I’d rather go off and find a nice trail to hike instead.’’ Using lyrics and imagery from his all-time favorite band to compose clues and make stamps was only natural, he added, since “the Grateful Dead mentality of peace, love, and harmony with nature was easy to impart to letterboxing.’’

How many did you catch?
I do hope this is a catch and release event....?
bh045ct 07-19-2010, 02:10 PM They caught some flounder, which were filet and sent home with them. Many of these veterans are permanent residents of the Veterans hospital and a few are outpatient. It is something we have been involved for over 25 + years.
They were feed lobster, clam chowder, hamburgers, hot dogs, various salads and dessert. Everything is donated. It is a collaboration between the lobsterman, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and our club. It is a good cause.
Of course the volunteer staff gets what is left over. After doing prep work on Saturday and than set up/ serving and clean up on Sunday a few of us jumped off the dock into the water to cool off.

that is a great event. i know wounded warriors runs similar events here for our heros! it is awesome to see people keeping these men and women in their hearts, and allowing them the opportunity to live their lives.

For me Rob, It's an opportunity to sit and chat with my fellow veterans. It's interesting to hear the story's they tell. Some served in the same war I did, but had a different perspective of the war. Some were from the Big war! They also have some interesting storys. I wish I had time to sit and talk with all of them. Some of them are forgoten by friends and family, some of them have none. I am sorry that "We" can only do this one day every year for them. It's all we are able to raise funding for. Some years over the past 25 or so that we have been doing this, people chipped in out of there own pockets to make it happen. This year the V.A. Did not want to fund the buses to get them the 40 miles to the club, for this event. We were able to work it out.
Thanks to all that put in the effort and time to do this for our vets.

"I have 37 different Zombie plans." ~ Sarge.
Tim Vance 07-20-2010, 12:22 PM They caught some flounder, which were filet and sent home with them.
Hey -- you should come down sometime. There is a state park nearby
Cool..
Maybe we should...I am a veteran...
RobfromLI 07-20-2010, 06:10 PM Hmmm.
Me thinks an Element Veterans Assistance Meet is in order.
We have a handful of Veterans here, and we all love to help people.
I will revive this discussion around the campfire in Pennsylvania. ;)

Tim Vance 07-23-2010, 10:25 AM We are 'weather proofing' the trailer as we speak...lol
this means that I put it up last weekend, and haven't taken it down yet.. rained all last night, still raining now, and supposed to be a couple more days of rain...
It might stop raining long enough on Wed or Thursday for us to load it up, and take it down...lol
ramblerdan 07-23-2010, 01:54 PM Is the consensus that we're going wine-tasting and visiting the Curtiss museum on Friday? I got the following from Magoosmc, who is also an airplane lover:
If I have an idea of how many and what time, I can set something up at Bully Hill Winery.

KRATE BIKE 07-23-2010, 05:54 PM We should be there Thurs. early afternoon, depends how well the ELEMENT pushes the motorhome. We are about 4 hrs. away. How far is the Curtiss museum? We have been there but it has been awhile.Flamingos are still part of the theme right?

bh045ct 07-25-2010, 10:35 AM Today I set up the trailer(Dom is fishing) to make sure everything is ok and to start loading it. I think Sylvester is following us there. We plan on going to the Zippo lighter museum/factory on Thursday and checking out the area.
We are going to leave about 9am on Wednesday.
Again the staff at the campground has been wonderful to work with. Looking forward to seeing everyone. If anyone hasn't made your reservation I am sure we can fit you in.
I have plates, cutlery, napkins, cups(hot&cold). I picked up mayo, ketchup, mustard(a couple of different varieties), relish, bread and butter pickles and a couple of jars of salsa. I did not buy chips, etc.
If we need anything else we are going to purchase there.
Justinb845 07-25-2010, 10:48 AM Patty your doing great with all of this I so need this weekend and cant wait to get there. How did the set up go with the trailer go everything ok?
If we can get in early with tim and Elaine I will be hopefully getting there early too.

Tardis (Andrew) and I will hopefully be travelling down with the Vances early Friday morning. I will be wine tasting and touring and I don't think Andrew will complain much about being dragged along.
If anyone needs Flamingo stuff I will be bringing down at least 2 bins of them if not more... depending on space. I'm sure the locals will wonder what happened to the area. Not sure about Zombies but by Friday night I might be able to manage to play the part.
I've done a few Letterboxes too - they're fun. I will try to get a geocaching 'tour' setup if anyone is interested. There is a Wellsboro Walking Tour that ... "is less than 2 miles with little elevation change, but allow at least 1 1/2 hours to complete it walking at an average pace." or there are other quicker stops that show you some history of the area...
If you're interested let me know... otherwise I'll just stop and grab a few on my own.
I'm so excited! I really can't wait for the weekend!

FISH E 07-25-2010, 05:38 PM Platinumman 21 and I should be rolling in Friday around noon, looking forward to seeing everyone again!

RobfromLI 07-27-2010, 01:39 PM I will be leaving from work at 0800 on thursday, or earlier depending on the menu of crimes that occur in on Manhattan Island that overnight. We have been getting slaughtered.
the past three nights have served me up 2 gunpoint robberies, 1 oops he shot himself, 1 non fatal (so far, as he may expire) shooting, and a slew of knife and strong arm robberies. throw in a liar liar pants on fire rape complaint and several gun arrest enhancements, and you have the dessert plate we call overtime!!
hopefully it is a _ _ _ _ _ night. i don't like to say the Q word out loud.
magoosmc 07-27-2010, 05:04 PM I went to the Curtiss Museum this morning and logged us in as a "Group Tour", with non specific times for both Friday and Saturday. Anyone who shows up, either as a group or as individuals and identifies themselves as being part of the EOC will be given a group rate of $5 each. I am going to Bully Hill Winery to see if I can extract some special treatment following the museum visit. I'll keep ya posted...

I've written to a local geocacher to find out which ones are good and which ones are to be skipped. There is a 'Whereigo' in town and a couple of virtuals which give some background to the town and history. I'll bring my netbook with me with GSAK loaded in case we need any more (although I doubt it).

Thanks Magoosmc for all your work on this ... I looked up the museum and the winery on the Interweb .... and we're going to be passing right by it on the way down to the event. I didn't realize it's over 1 hr north of the event in NY State.

Amazon Annie 07-28-2010, 01:17 PM Hi All,
I was looking at one of the geocaches in the area and I discovered this local gem:
"Due to its exceptionally dark skies, Cherry Springs State Park is one of the best places in the eastern seaboard for stargazing and the science of astronomy, which is the study and observation of planets, nebulae, galaxies, stars and other heavenly bodies."
Ok, after the jokes about "heavenly bodies..."
I phoned the State park and they said they have a few programs this weekend (obviously weather permitting):
Friday Night:
7-8 pm Intro to GPS
9-10:30pm Toward the Night Sky (viewing with a telescope)
Saturday Night:
7-8pm Solar Viewing (viewing with a special telescope)
9:30-10:30pm Naked eye (star gazing without a telescope)
No fees by the way... it's all free including entrance to the park.

Great morning. Beautiful view and Dom cooked fresh farm eggs this morning.
There is no rain scheduled for the next few days. Yea!!!!!!!!!!!
See everyone soon
NismoGriff 07-29-2010, 09:00 AM We are leaving very shortly... I originally wanted to leave at 8am, but I just had to much to do and didn't want to feel rushed. I'm sure I still forgot something. SEE EVERYONE SOON!!!
Backcountry Edge 07-29-2010, 09:21 AM I feel like I am bringing up the rear of the Element invasion. We are shooting for a 6:00pm departure on Friday but it all depends on when I can get out of the office. That should land us at the campground around 9:30 or 10:00. I will be shooting for something earlier but I think that this is the most realistic scenario.
I started making the "gear pile" last night and made a stop from some beverages but I had to hand over the E to Stacy (wife) this morning so that she can pack it up tomorrow during the day. Really looking forward to getting on the road tomorrow and meeting up with everyone.

No problem...I've spoken with Elaine, and we'll just pay the $15...and negotiate for a reduced rate for Sunday night...since we haven't booked that night yet, but were planning on staying anyway...
I think Justin already spoke to Jake, and Jake will be sharing with Gaily...or maybe it's with you...?

I think Snuff is at Carly's. They are going to meet Justin in the AM.
cai88 07-30-2010, 01:47 AM Snuff and Rick are passed out. Of course I am still getting things ready. I WILL be on the road by 6:30am. I'm figuring close to 6:30 so I can get a bottle into Landon before we leave.
bh241 07-30-2010, 06:56 AM Geeze, you guys... here I am stuck at work (which I guess really isn't such a bad thing considering the crappy economy) and knowing there isn't any way to make this trip.
At least I can 'virtually' visit with some of my E-ple and be part of it that way. I hope you guys have a great weekend, I really wish we could have made it up there. - Maybe next time.
Gaily 07-30-2010, 08:49 AM Day 1 caravaning with Lorrie & Diana, setting up

Where are the pics?
We wanna see pics!
Who's got the pics?
Amazon Annie 08-02-2010, 04:35 PM Thanks to everyone who was there. I had a great time meeting up with the Columbus, OH crowd I had met previously and meeting lots of new people. Got some geocaching in with NismoGriff's and Tardis and learned all sorts of new things (about E's and ...er... other stuff as well) ;)
Brought home a few less 'Mingos (they didn't question us at the border about them). Border crossing took close to 2 hrs I think - just inched along but I think the border guard took one look at my exhausted face and just let us go through with the minimum questions. Total drive with shopping was probably 10 hours?
I did pick up a fan (thanks NismoGriff for the heads up) and a small shelter that I hope will do until I can find the one that I want. I have a whole new camping wish list that I hope I can fill next weekend.
I hope you'll keep me in mind for any future meets. I don't get on the site to check as much as I should. Thanks to Tim & Elaine and Rusty for the heads up!
Annie

I like that. Let's go with blaming Canada - a little bit of blame to the wine, but mostly Canada.

x railroader 08-06-2010, 08:49 AM Hi All
Had great time at the EOC thingy in Pa:-)
Will be looking forward to the next one, where ever it may be
I especially wish to thank Dom.Five and Snuffleupagus for my
Ace hardware grille screen install.
I never dreamed how easy it would be
Thanks again
Also wish to thank Patty for keeping the burger material for our consumption
Sat night. Burgers were great along with the chicken;-)
Our trip home was quite nice till we got into the rains.
Spent time down in Duncansville and Breezwood
Than off to Cabelas in Wheeling to drop off some bux.
wgwood 08-06-2010, 08:16 PM I've been perusing your pics and it looks like you peeps had a blast.
Question: I have traveled across our country quite a few times and it seems that only campgrounds east of the rockies have grass sites for camping. There are some private campgrounds out here that do, but all of the NFS, State, and National Parks have dirt.
For example: A Kansas State Park:
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_E5eDH3bkm5E/SQDLN8Kni_I/AAAAAAAABEU/XbVBvnnooxY/s640/Kansas%20Camp.jpg
A Missouri State Park:
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_E5eDH3bkm5E/SQDLQJ7dnNI/AAAAAAAABEc/ucAf60joF3M/s640/Missouri%20Camp.jpg
In Tennessee: (I asked for primitive camping, got my own place)
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_E5eDH3bkm5E/SQDLWHsyW1I/AAAAAAAABE0/M1ZKG-kzbtE/s640/Tennesse.jpg
Meanwhile, out here we have dirt, like this: (This pic is for RamblerDan)
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_E5eDH3bkm5E/TBAuA6u1tOI/AAAAAAAAEIo/5mi6PdpBaG0/s720/Campsite%20Dick%201.jpg
I love camping on grass, except for the bugs. Are most of your eastern campgrounds like that?
Regards,
Greg

Hey hey, there will be another day
I also needed to inspect some more of the mods
I may need some more:-D
ramblerdan 08-06-2010, 08:57 PM I can't recall any campground I've been to in the east that didn't have grass (not necessarily in good shape, but there).
RobfromLI 08-07-2010, 07:59 AM I camped across the US and back over the month of June. I noticed the change in campgrounds around Missouri. Out West in AZ, NM, CA they offered dirt platforms, and dirt squares. I noticed that they kept the dirt areas level, and very clean. Most were free of rocks, and debris. I carry a small footprint tarp to keep my tent free of mud, and dirt.
The best campground I have visited is the Jurneez Center for Rehabilitation. I think it has to do with the hostess.

I've seen the same Rob...seems that pretty much everything East of the Mississippi are grassed...I honestly didn't even know there was anything different until we went to Utah last summer, as we have always camped on grass (even in Canada, as far west as Alberta ad teh Rockies). So it must be a south west thing
I agree as well that the softest, most luxurious camping grass is to be found at Journeez. It's definitely due to the care the hostess puts into inspecting each and every blade of grass, personally, and up close
cai88 08-07-2010, 11:20 PM Are you implying that Jurn spends a great deal of time crawling around....lol
bh045ct 08-07-2010, 11:24 PM I think several witness her personally inspecting several blades of grass last year between the camping area and her house.
Such care. And I was under the impression that she was_____________!!!!!!!!!! I stand corrected.
RobfromLI 08-09-2010, 10:23 AM i have used the center of gravity lowering method of crawling to avoid injury while intoxicated. it is a time tested method of avoiding serious injury, and keeps others from having to render assistance... thus leaving them free to enjoy more party time.
i find that it is irresponsible for people to stumble around with the possibility of wrecking gear, and causing potential conflict due to reckless contact.
when crawling... avoid puking directly in your own path.
