Dom.five 03-08-2010, 12:01 PM Thanks Patty!
The site looks good.
The sites have been renumbered. We are in site 81. It is one site to the left of what the map shows. So site 81 on the map is site 82. The site size is massive ! it's 30 feet wide , but it's 100 feet deep.
Make sure when you call that you tell them your with the Honda Element owners club. Once we have 10 sites reserved we get a 10% discount for all of us. Not a big deal, but it's something.
I have asked Paul to lock the old thread to avoid confusion. If anyone has questions contact Patty or myself. We will do our best to find the information you need.
We needed to get this moving so people can plan for it.
Thanks
Dom

Justinb845 03-08-2010, 02:33 PM looks good going to see if Jake wants to share a site again this year.
Justinb845 03-08-2010, 02:35 PM we doing this at the same time as before?
Tim Vance 03-08-2010, 03:04 PM I KNEW it was too good to be true!
ya, we're in!
Tim Vance 03-08-2010, 03:44 PM Just booked our site we will be at site # 82.
bh045ct 03-08-2010, 03:48 PM When I spoke to Randy at the campgrounds, he stated that if you are sharing a site just to let him know. He doesn't need all the specifics right away He says the area we are in will easily accomodate 100 people. I have to give him a $30.00 deposit and will be charged the rest at check in. He stated at that time if we were going to have another tent on our site just to let him know at check in. Usually it is $30. for 2 adults/2 children per site but he charge us $30.00 for 4 adults per site if you want to double up. I hope this is clear. If not pm me and either Dom or I will be happy to get the info or clarify. Or you can call the campground directly.
I have never seen this campground just the photos on the website. Randy was very accomodating and easy to deal with.
Don't forget to mention Element Owners Club when making your reservation.
Our sites are near all the facilities. He stated quiet time starts at 11pm.
Please let me know when you make your reservation, if you are sharing a site and what the site number is.
The closest grocery store is in Wellsboro which is about 8.6 miles away and the closest Walmart is 19 miles away just north of Wellsboro. There is also a Walmart south of the campsite for those coming from the south. I think it was about 23 miles away.
There looks like there are lots of stuff to do in the area. Dominic & I may stop at Corning and go thru the Corning glass museum. It is very impressive, especially when you get to the crystal part(Steubens Glass).
I am not sure we are going to do teeshirts, but will discuss with others. May do bumper stickers, will need to discuss with Goosler. First we have to figure out what to call this. Any suggestions.
bh045ct 03-08-2010, 03:49 PM Just booked our site we will be at site # 82.
Great now Dominic can get his coffee in the morning. You are next to us.
bh045ct 03-08-2010, 03:51 PM we doing this at the same time as before?
july 29th thru aug 2nd
I told him some will be arriving on Thursday/Friday and some will be leaving on Sunday/Monday.
We are arriving Thursday and leaving on Monday.
bh045ct 03-08-2010, 04:01 PM here is something to think about. There is a self guided driving throughout the Canyon. We may want to have a E caravan.
I will not be scheduling any group activities. If they happen, they happen.
Justinb845 03-08-2010, 04:12 PM ok will let Jake know and see what happens
dog drool 03-08-2010, 05:43 PM Little over 7 hour for me not including potty breaks for the kids.
jsbagman 03-08-2010, 06:17 PM Would love to come, really don't camp, and cabins won't allow a 9 pound cutie Frankie the mini Dashound.
ramblerdan 03-08-2010, 06:23 PM A mere 4 1/2 hours from here.
Why can't these places put their damn coordinates on their Web sites? It's not like GPSes just came out yesterday. ::harrumph::
Tim Vance 03-08-2010, 06:39 PM Elaine and I have no problem with doubling up, if anyone wants to throw a tent or 2 on our site with us...J & J???
They did say 4 adults....
cai88 03-08-2010, 07:19 PM Key word being ADULTS!!! lol

Just look at the lower part of this.

I had missed the fact that Patty posted that link. My main point still applies, though: Business should include coordinates on their Web sites. I could look up a phone number online too, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be on the business's home page.
FISH E 03-08-2010, 08:13 PM FISH E, and platinumman21 are booked in cabin #35, just spoke to Randy, there is one more cabin available as of today 3/08. We will both be in our own Elements!! can't wait :-):-):-)
wickedhuff 03-08-2010, 09:35 PM Anyone down for sharing a site? My barbie tent, camp chair and pop up probably won't take up an entire site..
Gaily 03-08-2010, 10:04 PM Patti I will be reserving a site tomorrow morning for me & Jurn will then let you know the #. Hopefully the site next to Tim/Elaine. Katie if we can put 3 vehicles on a site your welcome to join us.
bh045ct 03-08-2010, 10:41 PM The campground has renumbered and not updated the online map. Numbers are one off. Tim & Elaine are site 82, however on the map it is 81. We are 81 and on the map it is 80. They stated they are having the map updated. Just not sure when. So if looking at the current map we have 81 thru 70. As far as 3 cars. Just check with Randy when you call him. I am sure it will not be problem with the number of tents as long as you don't exceed 4 adults. Let me know how you make out.
Patti I will be reserving a site tomorrow morning for me & Jurn will then let you know the #. Hopefully the site next to Tim/Elaine. Katie if we can put 3 vehicles on a site your welcome to join us.

Pine Creek Outfitters (http://www.pinecrk.com/) is in Ansonia for anyone that wants to canoe, kayak, or raft through the canyon. They were great last summer when we did the section from Ansonia to Blackwell which is roughly 17 miles. Makes for a great day on the water.

bh045ct 03-13-2010, 01:06 PM According to Larry at the campgrounds, site 74 is shaded. I am going to contact him on Monday to see how long I can hold the other unreserved sites. I will keep you posted
I just sent for the tourist info packet and once I have I will give everyone some idea of what is in the area.
Food: I think once it gets closer we will start of thread on food. I don't think everyone needs to bring ketchup, etc. We can make a list for the communal stuff and hopefully everyone will sign up for to purchase. As you know we are usually in over buy when it comes to our meets.
Kiwi_Box 03-15-2010, 12:16 AM I will make my reservations on monday. Or maybe just crash on someones. sight
goosler 03-15-2010, 09:36 AM Hikers:
Since I've been here before & hiked the canyon, I'll try to shed some light on the trails...
They are VERY hilly!!
98% dirt trails with little to no mulch or markers along the trails (at least when I was there in 07)
LOTS of vegetation & tree roots cutting along the trails, so if you have bad ankles, forget it.
I suggest a walking stick of some sort, should make the inclines easier
Bring LOTS of water, possibly even a power bar or the like......:-D
I also suggest 2 way radios, as there isn't much room to hike side by side & the group may get separated.
For those of you that don't hike & would rather canoe, kayak or possibly fish or swim, I remember there being a rental place on the side of the river (popular for the soft serve ice cream) with some narrow driving trails along side, leading to some fairly secluded coves.
bh045ct 03-15-2010, 11:00 AM Goosler --- Thanks for your input.
I am not sure I am going to hike to the bottom. I understand there are shorter hikes that are easy to moderate. I would think hiking in and out of the canyon is an all day effort. If hiking I would suggest wearing mid cut hiking boots that will support your ankles.
dog drool 03-15-2010, 12:25 PM i hope we can find a trail which falls more under the catogory of "stroll in the woods."
Tool0128 03-15-2010, 01:21 PM hey, count me in for this trip..... anyone willing to let me set up a tent on there site?

The camp ground only allows 4 adults per site! Justin, Why don't you and Jake just split the cost of a site . The prices are not all that bad. We need more people to get sites to get the discount.

Work has announced plant shut down the week of July mandatory vacation that week
but they are also talking about going to 4 10 hour days I should know more soon.
bh045ct 03-20-2010, 11:38 AM This is a clarification: If you go over 3 adults on the campsite they will charge an extra $7.00 for the 4th adult. No more than 4 adults per campsite. Or you can have 2 adults/2childen per campsite before they would charge for an extra person.
Sorry for any confusion.
We still have sites being held for us(76 thru 72). They will continue to hold, but I am not sure how long. If you haven't made your reservation please do. .
The camp owners have been very friendly and helpful to me for getting this together on such short notice.
I just got the guide for this area. I will be posting more info on that later.

Gaily 03-23-2010, 08:47 PM Dom the ladies deserve an evening of entertainment along with a good laugh.
Snuffleupagus 03-23-2010, 11:51 PM 76 is a nice number. I like it. It's just 6 past 70 and 4 away from 80. The first digit is exactly 1 greater than the second digit and the second digit is exactly 1 lesser than the first digit, and one digit is an odd number while the other is an even number. :-)
Of course in a happy coincidence, it does coincide with one of the camp sites that was available until today. Although, I didn't realize that was the number Gail had assigned to me for that pole dancing contest. I may have to step away from that one... you know, just so the other guys can have a chance of winning. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_pmwmcld7BIg/SudjETbywNI/AAAAAAAADy0/_JcPuYhuAZg/s800/tricky.gif

bh045ct 03-28-2010, 02:40 PM I have appointed Gaily to Chairman of entertainment. Great title, no authority and no pay/benefits.
If anyone else is out there that is thinking about attending this event please make your reservations. I am sure the campground will not hold forever. We are looking for more Mid Atlantic, Mid South or anyone else who wants to attend.
I have gathered some info that includes things to do in the area, shopping that includes closet walmart(s) which are not that close., grocery stores and the liquor store, lots of hiking trails, overview of the two state parks along the pine creek gorge, two driving tours: woods & vistas(35 miles), lakes & scenic(85 miles). Plus I have the online PA forestry map of the Tioga state forest.
I will post or if you are interested send me a private message with your email address and I will send to you via email.
Looks like a great area.

bh045ct 04-06-2010, 10:45 PM Sorry for the interruption on the pole dancing, but back to some business.
Looks like we have 9 of the 10 sites reserved. We do have doubling up on a few sites which is great. Just like to get the other site reserved soon. Remember we get the 10% discount if we rent 10 campsites. Than I can ask for additional sites. Ramblerdan has posted the info on the first post of who is where and that is where you will find the contact info.
If anyone out there is still considering please come and join us. We always have a great time. This looks like a great area with lots to do. Or you can sit back and relax.
Now back to the pole dancing and peeps.

1.Justin and Jake are camping on Tim & Elaine site.
2. Gaily, Jurn and Katie are sharing a site.
3. Carly is on Tools site.
If this is not correct please let us know.
Please Note that they will charge extra $7.00 per night for more than 3 adults on a site or will charge $7.00 per individual for more than 2 adults/2 children per site. You will need to advise when checking in.

Not to nitpick, but did he change his mind?
When I spoke to Randy at the campgrounds, he stated that if you are sharing a site just to let him know. Or you can call the campground directly.
bloateus 04-08-2010, 12:56 PM I'm in site 74 if anyone wants the other half or wants to park there ,no problems
ramblerdan 04-08-2010, 01:34 PM Still need one more site rental to get a discounted rate.
bh045ct 04-08-2010, 11:42 PM That was my fault. On 3/20 post 95 I updated with the correction. Of course you are nitpicking, but justified.
Not to nitpick, but did he change his mind?
Tim Vance 04-09-2010, 11:53 AM This is a clarification: If you go over 3 adults on the campsite they will charge an extra $7.00 for the 4th adult. No more than 4 adults per campsite. Or you can have 2 adults/2childen per campsite before they would charge for an extra person.
Sorry for any confusion.
We still have sites being held for us(76 thru 72). They will continue to hold, but I am not sure how long. If you haven't made your reservation please do. .

If you are still interested in attending still call and get a site in our area.

It is not too late to reserve a site. Come join us for a fun weekend of camping and relaxing and whatever you want to do.

NismoGriff 04-19-2010, 06:59 PM I don't know how/why I never checked for a meet sooner than today. Is there any room left? I think I would like to attend, but I would need a site for my pop-up, not a tent. I know it was said the sites are big, but didn't know if there was a way to squeeze a camper in ???
ramblerdan 04-19-2010, 07:53 PM Tim's popup is huge. If his fits, yours will. (Hey Tim, you did tell the campground about your popup, right?)
Cyclist_306 04-19-2010, 08:08 PM I am truly sorry that I'll miss this. Sounds like a good time. I'll be in Iowa, riding my bicycle across the state along with 14,999 others.
NismoGriff 04-19-2010, 08:26 PM Tim's popup is huge. If his fits, yours will. (Hey Tim, you did tell the campground about your popup, right?)
Yea, I've seem Tim's camper (and I like!!) but that's whta I wasn't really sure of....are these supposed to be tent only sites or are campers allowed. So, did you ask about the camper Tim?
bh045ct 04-19-2010, 10:11 PM These are actually trailer sites with water and electricity. You should have no problem. They have expanded the number of slots for us. Sites 72 thru 69( the online map show the sites as 73 thru 70). They need to update the map. Plus sites are available across the road near the pond and along the creek.
Camp owner Randy says the sites he has set aside for us are huge. He stated that the sites are 35 feet wide and 100 feet deep. I think your trailer just might fit. Kidding!!!!!!
Kiwi Box has reserved 72, so 71 thru 69 are open at this time. They also have sites available just not in our little block. There are 214 sites altogether at this campground. Once we get 71 thru 69 I will see about getting more sites. Some individuals have double up on individual sites. So far we have 18 Element owners that are going.
Right now we have a total of 11 sites reserved and 1 cabin. See post 1 for more details.

I'll do some kite flying. Unfortunately, I can't bring my chinese dragon kite that is extremely long. I'll have to bring something else.
The dragon got damaged during my last outing and is in bad need of repair. A strong gust of wind came in crosswise while I was bringing it down. I was flying it by myself (stupid in a windy early evening) and couldn't recover. The wind dragged it across the field breaking several spars and tearing off some feathers.
This is what it looks like.

LOL
Oddly enough, we were in a store yesterday that sold kites, and I thought that it's been a very long time since I've ruined a kite
ramblerdan 04-22-2010, 09:37 PM I'm in. Subsequent to the outing in Provincetown, I found my lines.
Dom.five 04-23-2010, 12:51 AM Sounds like we have an EOC kite competition developing.
Now lets see who has the highest flying kite. Will someone show up with an Element Kite?
I wonder if we'll have enough wind.
Maybe we should do Hot air balloons instead! We always have enough Hot Air!
Dom
Tim Vance 04-23-2010, 08:19 AM LOL
COOL
So, do we do a raffle on who can keep it up the longest...
and who crashes and burns the fastest?
(kite flying in a campground is sure to result in a few singed kites...lol)
I nominate myself to have the shortest amount of air time
Dom.five 04-23-2010, 09:37 AM LOL

So how long or short of a string is Elaine going to have you on?

A box kite! Of course! I'll bet that pinata we had at Jamboree could have been lofted. ::chuckle::

it depends on how full of hot air I am at the time...and who's beer I'm drinking...lol
bh045ct 04-24-2010, 06:29 PM I was at the Christmas tree shop and they had some kites for cheap money. I picked up a couple. Still going to get one that can do some tricks or whatever.
bh045ct 04-29-2010, 11:16 AM We still have some sites left. Don't be shy. See post number 1 for contact numbers. There is lots to do in the area. Thinking about doing the scenic drive on Saturday for anyone who wants to join in. It is a 35 mile loop.
We may go on Wednesday to get set up and than go to the Zippo lighter factory/museum Thursday morning. Dom has a very old zippo that needs some repair work. It's about a 2 hour drive west of Wellsboro.
The other day I bought some kites and flamingo lights at the Christmas tree shop. Couldn't find any zombie lights.
Anyone interested in creating a teeshirt design for our theme that includes flamingos and zombies.
I will have an event bumper sticker available for nominal cost during the weekend.

bh045ct 05-08-2010, 12:37 PM Greetings. For those that have not posted if you have made reservations please let us know. I just like to keep a running total.
I just received a brochure about PA Route 6 called the Artisan Trail. Several local artist along the route. The Artisan Shoppe located in Wellsboro represents several local artist. Not far from Wellsboro heading west is the Firestone Forge www.firestoneforge.com Sounds like an interesting place. Doug Smith the blacksmith recreates 18th and 19th century items. Plus he makes household items including fireplace cooking tools and utensils. His hunting equipment includes knives, campfire cooking tools. Plus he is a gunsmith and builds 18th century flintlocks. We might have to check this place out.
Dominc & I might arrive on Wednesday. We were thinking of driving over to Bradford, Pa and check out the Zippo Museum and factory. I think it is about an 2 hour drive from Wellsboro. The drive would take us west on Rt 6 than Rt 46 to Bradford.
There are no plan activities, we may do a scenic drive on Saturday with anyone that wants to participate. Let me know if who is interested.
Again there is something for everyone. If you haven't made reservations please call. Not sure how much longer Randy will hold the additional sites.
Please join us
KRATE BIKE 05-08-2010, 01:40 PM I left a message with the campground and waiting to hear from them. That blacksmith place sounds interesting.Kay does cast iron cooking over the fire and would gladly due a demo some evening. Here is a link to an item that could combine flamingos with zombies maybe.

bh045ct 05-13-2010, 11:59 PM I spoke to Randy today regarding cell service and wifi. He says verizon works good around the main office and at&t works fairly well in the campground. Not sure about other providers.
Wifi -- they are upgrading the router the beginning of July. Currently if more than 10 computers are in at the same time, the service will be slow. He stated the upgrade will allow more access. Hopefully this will not be a problem, especially for you farmville fans. Only kidding.
Randy, his wife and son have been excellent to work with. They have been very accommodating. Once site 69 is taken, Randy said most likely we can start reserving sites on the opposite side of the road. In any case he will fit in anyone from our group who wants to camp out.
By my calculations with the current site reservations and doubly up we have 20+ Element owners that have committed. Now that is great.
If you are still on the fence or just not sure don't hesitate to reserve a site. I really would like to take over the campground with lots of Elements.
By the way I bought a new kite today just for this event. It is the Prism EQ Atom kite. Got it at LL Bean.
Stay tuned more to come. 76 days til the start of element fun.

Yea it's just that I missed the last 2 camping trips I had planned for last year because of trying to let my bum foot heal and then I had 17 days off about a month ago, but it was because I had hernia surgery, lol. I just want a REAL vacation. The wife and I are taking 4 days to go down to Hocking Hills Ohio on May 23rd for our wedding anniversary. Camper isn't even out of storage yet, so we just rented a cabin. Should be fun.
So.... do we as a group need anything that I can bring to the meet?
Dom.five 05-14-2010, 03:20 PM So.... do we as a group need anything that I can bring to the meet?
Patty is going to start a Thread on that when the time gets closer. We need to keep down the overlap on food, and things like that. We always have way too much. We are planning to do the food shopping there. Does not make sense to transport it that far. Other things we can work out in the thread.

Good advice!!!!!!!!!!
I thought after July 4th we could discuss food, paper products, etc. We don't need to bring 12 bottles of ketchup unless it's your favorite brand.
Here is a thought: if everyone wants to kick in 5 bucks I could go out and buy paper products and condiments and some snack food for any communal gathering/cooking. Let me know what you think of that idea. I would make a list and than take suggestions for what is needed. At least we wouldn't be overloaded on the stuff and end up throwing it out.
another idea. Do we to have a contest for best decorated campsite???
Please bring your favorite beverage/alcohol(not the rubbing type), etc.
I attempted to fly my kite yesterday, but with the trees and overhead wires in the area I gave up. That is my mission on Sunday.
75 days.
cai88 05-15-2010, 09:37 PM Patty, I think the chipping in $5 is an awesome idea! We always end up with way to much crap.

Amazon Annie 05-24-2010, 07:13 AM Finally got a nod from Tardis about the accomodations. Looks like Rusty and Eddie in cabin #35 have offered us room (they may regret the decision as I'm not sure Andrew ever sleeps). At least I'm not responsible for his bedding and linen this time.
I am willing to contribute to whatever is needed to make this happen. Count another $10 (US) in the pot.
I used to be a flamingo collector and when I moved I dumped most of my collection but I still have a bin or two in the basement of stuff that I guess I just couldn't get rid of. Hmmm maybe I will have a chance to get rid of more! Not sure how to answer the border guard's question when she/he asks "Are you bringing anything in to the USA? .... "
bh045ct 05-24-2010, 07:36 PM So glad you & Tardis can make it.

Randy and his family have been super nice to deal with in getting this all set up.
There is plenty to do in the area or you can do nothing. Whatever your pleasure.

Excellent!!!
We are probably leaving very early in the morning on Friday, so we should be there in time for breakfast!

Awesome.. I'm up for anything. Just have to get Andrew lined up. He was asking where to sign up.
I noticed the following:
**Check-in Time is 2 p.m. ** Check-out Time is 12 Noon
Quiet Time is 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.
I checked out the area and there Geocaches in Wellsboro which look interesting and some others around the area. There is terrain rating for each of the ones that are hikes so you know what you're getting into. If anyone is interested I'll bring an extra GPS along. :)

I don't wear a watch....the world moves to MY time...lol
I haven't tried geocaching, but it sounds alot like the orienteering exercises we used to do in the military...when we still used compass'.
I remember when we were issued with our first GPS units for the fire control systems on the mortars and guns...lol I have a laptop now that is smaller!
Dom.five 05-27-2010, 12:11 AM I plan on discussing early arrival with Randy in the near future. Just want to make sure what the policy is

bh045ct 05-27-2010, 12:17 AM IMPORTANT
It would be good to figure out when everyone plans on checking in, especially those that are sharing sites/cabins. You may want to check with your site companions to make sure they are going to be there when you plan on arriving. Especially if the reservation is under the other persons name. I know some are coming in on Thursday and some are coming in on Friday. So just make sure that if you are arriving on Thursday but the person who has reservation is arriving on Friday you will have to contact the campground to reserve the site for Thursday for yourself. Please make sure you check it out with your site companions before your arrival. No last minute surprises or misunderstandings. It is your responsibility to make sure you have a spot when you arrive.
Don't wait until the last minute to figure this out

Juanita and I will be bringing our handheld for this. Although we just started Geocaching this year, it was because we saw you doing it at the meet in Columbus that we wanted to get into it. Should be fun!!
bh045ct 06-06-2010, 10:51 AM Bumping.
time is getting closer to the big event. If you are on the fence don't hesitate to make your reservation. By my estimates there will be over 18 Elements and 30 plus attendees/campers. Great time to see what other E owners have done to their Elements.. Ideas, Ideas, Ideas.
While coming back from the Indy 500 earlier this week I picked up one of the travel brochures for the Finger Lakes area featuring the Corning Museum of Glass. It is about an hour drive north of the campground. Haven't been there in years. It is a great take in.
We have a few members who plan on doing some geo-caching. There are plenty of geo-cache sites in the area. My neice does letter boxing. http://www.letterboxing.org/america.htm There are some for Pine Creek Canyon and Wellsboro. http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxByRegion.php?region=North%20Central%20Pennsylva nia
They are based on clues, much like a treasure hunt. Does not require a gps.
Can't wait for this to start.

The Curtiss Museum is well worth the visit! It is about one hour and 10 minutes from the campground - easy drive. In addition to some great old aircraft they have a lot of late 19th, early 20th century displays and stuff to keep kids occupied. They have a workshop where you can watch some pretty talented guys who are currently rebuilding the Albany Flyer which will then recreate it's original flight. As a bonus there are 4 wineries within 3 miles of the museum. If a group is interested in one or both I would be happy to set up a group tour at the museum and a vip winetasting at one of the wineries..
