: THE CD Changer

Hello - 1st post
I'm sure this has been covered, but here goes - Wife bought a used VW last year with a JVC 12 CD changer in it. Son saw changer and wanted one for his car. Got him one for his BD (JVC 12 CD, 189.00 Crutchfield) and he loves it. Bought myself an 04' SOP 4WD EX day after Christmas and want a changer.

Question: is the prohibitvve part about the Honda changer the price? Is it not worth it to get all the right parts, wires, brackets, etc. for the extra money? OR is everyone going the RF or IPod route.

Discussion?

A portable mp3 player seems a better deal to me: plus the car was wired with that in mind!

It'll cost you half as much as the changer, even before installation.

yup....I actually swapped the head unit for an Alpine that plays CDs and MP3 discs. I have 4-5 hours on a single disc and it was $300 cheaper than the factory changer installed...

But doesn't that mean you have to mount the mp3 player somewhere you can actually see what you are doing? Due to age, I have to put on the specs and get up close to use something like a 4" tall player.

As for the HU, I don't plan on replacing it or the speakers ( the ears are like the eyes), as the factory setup sounds good to me. I just wanted some way to have more variety than flipping disks all the time.

Tnx for the responses, BTW.

Ok, sounds like the cd changer is your best bet, then.

I've got a CD changer in my Passat along with in-dash cassette. The CD changer is nice since it gets me access to CDs but pretty much a pain to load & reload. Even though you're happy with the sound quality of the stock headunit, you might consider an mp3 replacement system just to give you that extra capacity. When you can fit 5 or 6 CDs worth of tunes on a single disk, it seems like it would be better than having a separate changer. And it would probably cost less than the Honda CD changer.

But then again, the display on the stock headunit is pretty easy to read.
