I've read a few posts about this....but havent gotten a direct answer from them. Can someone please lead me to the answer.

Just ordered a touch screen panel, that will connect to a laptop with GPS. I need to hard wire the power to it, and also hard wire the AUX (under the panels). How do I do this?

If someone could give me a link, or describe it I would be greatly appreciative.

oh yes....and pictures are appreciated!

To be a little more clear, i need to split the AUX, and the POWER under the panels to be driven to this screen unit so it is always powered, and always is conneted to the AUX. (BUT I also need the AUX in, and 12v in) in case i use them later.

I would imagine i would need a y splitter beneath the panels, but i dont know how to wire this myself....does anyone else know?

Oooh, I wish I could provide some real insight, but I don't know how to do this either. I do, however, know that I'm itching to see the end result!!

I'm sure this isn't very hard, just need to know what AUX wires to cut into, any pictures or insight please?

Also curious on how to do this. I saw the Wiring Diagram that E-mass posted and it looks pretty simple. I have an XM Commander arriving this week for my wife's Element and would really like to keep all of the wiring behind the dash. Was planning on splicing in either a female stereo mini plug or just a pair of RCA's. Has anyone had any success with this? Thanks in advance.

If you need to split the AUX jack between two sources you'll probably want to use a relay and a mechanical switch so that it knows which source you're using if there's ever two plugged in at the same time.

You can probably just split power off of the 12v branch without a relay unless you're worried about overdraw in which case I'd recommend one.

The relays just allow the audio and power signals to be routed to the source you select. You still need a physical interface. In the case of the AUX plug just follow the diagram I've provided for the aux wires and wire up the leads to a female stereo jack. In the case of power you'll just need to extend the bare wiring to your source unit for connection purposes.

As for physically doing all of this, you'll need to pull the 12v lighter and AUX panels out of the dash and snake the tapped wires around your car from there.

If you don't know what a relay is or how to use one or how to measure current across to determine draw and such or are not mechanically inclined or have never used a soldering iron, etc. - DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ON YOURSELF. VISIT A LOCAL MOBILE ELECTRONICS INSTALLER!

Hope this helps,
eMass

Check out the answer from Brendan posted 12/4/03 in response to eboy's questions "How to tap the aux in?" posted 11/6/03. Below is the link.

If anyone has tried this please respond. I'm cutting wires this weekend.

Just did my install using E-Mass's diagram and Brendan's (from another thread) instructions. Couldn't have worked better. My wife now has XM radio in the Element. (spoiled myself in my car, had to put it in hers)

Tapped into the factory wires behind the radio as opposed to behind the AUX input. Got a male to 2-female RCA splitter and cut off the male end. That left me with 2 female RCA plugs with bare wires hanging. Connected the 2 grounds together and then to the green wire, connected the right + to the brown wire, left + to the white wire. Connected the blue and yellow wires to eachother, and left ther lt. green/red wire alone. Connected an RCA patch cable from my XM commander to the new RCA inputs and I was done. Everything worked perfect and there was no noise at all.

Thanks E-Mass and Brendan
