Ok, ok, I know it isn't optimal, but I'm not going to expand beyond replacing the h/u, front and rear speakers. Just confirming that I can still run the factory sub, running off the factory amp, even though I'm going to run the front and rear off of the deck power. The local guy here claimed it can't be done. I used to do this stuff for a living. I claim it can, using the sub outs. Again, not optimal for real bass, but if its possible, why not. At least until I put a real sub and amp in my E.

Additionally, can I wire the Aux jack into the h/u?

If that Alpine HU has a sub preout, it should be easy. Otherwise you will need a crossover. This is assuming that the element amp does not have a crossover in it. Even then, it is nice adjusting the sub volume from the HU. I saw another post listing the wire code for the stock head unit. Use that to find which are the signal wires for the sub.
You will probably need a line input adapter for your head unit. I bought a Sony one for my Sony headunit that gives it an AUX input through the CD changer port. I assume Alpine offers a similar thing. I know Pioneer does also. Then it is as easy as wiring the jact on the dash to the RCA inputs of the adapter.

No prob. Talk to EMASS and he can walk you through it. I have the Alpine 9807 with mine and it controls everything just fine, including the AUX output in the dash....

Thanks. I knew I hadn't forgotten everything about electronics. The kid at the store talked such a good game, though, I thought he might know something I didn't.
