: Strut disaster - missing spring seat cushion

Hello,
First, let me just say that I blew it. My E needed struts all around, and I ordered new KYB struts and mounts from Rock Auto. The stupid part is that I paid a local guy who had lost his shop job to put them in. The E was clunking and rattling horribly, so I took it to a Midas to have it looked at. They say that I am missing the spring seat cushions, and that the springs are not mounted properly to the new struts. I am desperately trying to find these cushions. He says none of the dealerships he called carry it, and it doesn't even appear in the majestic honda diagram. I am told it is between the spring and the strut. If anyone can give me a lead I would appreciate it.

Thanks. That is the same diagram I faxed the shop. They said it wasn't that part. Also, they said it was the rear struts that were missing the part. I probably forgot to mention that in the first post. I got that diagram, and the rear one, from majestic honda and emailed them as well. So far, they have not responded.

Probably because they don't know what they are doing...

Take it somewhere else...I wouldn't put much stock in the fact that a muffler shop can't find the problem. The best indicator of this is that they don't know what part is 'missing'/defective, even when given the diagrams...

On this diagram it's #10.

That's an upper mount mr2driver...

they referred to a seat cushion, which to me would mean a lower position.

That's odd, because the spring rests directly on the lower strut mount...the upper rubber is to reduce noise and contact with the upper strut mount and the vehicle body.

Tim,
From what you say, and from what I hear, maybe it is the upper. I have got to have a day off to pull a wheel and look. I'm no idiot and I'm sure with the diagrams I can see what is missing. I'm just bummed because I am forced to make a 53 mile commute in my old truck at 11 mpg, and after having too much time off now I'm working 7 days a week.

There is no seat cushion on the rears, as the diagram indicates. It is probably missing the upper. If it is missing the upper, then you will need to get #11 as well, because it will be rather damaged at this point. #10 positions the spring centered over #11, and absorbs any vibration. #11 is plastic, and if the spring is in contact with it, it will be damaging it.

Let me know if you have any luck getting those parts. I put in an order for those exact parts last week. I wanted to put my Ksports together before putting them on the E. Dealer searched all his warehouses and said 11 is on backorder with no date for when they will come in. Good luck!!
