We have a 2004 DX 4WD Automatic with a ski rack mounted on the roof rack. The ski rack makes such a bad whistle that we can't stand to drive with it on when we are not on our way to the ski resort. Is this normal? How do you remove the ski attachment from the roof rack? I know you can remove four wing nuts and take the two racks off but this leave the four one inch square mounting posts with the bolts that go down into the channel in the roof rack. Do you have to take the roof rack slats off to remove the ski rack mounts? My dealer is over 100 miles away and we couldn't seem to get on the same page when I asked them this question on the phone.

I have an after market rack system, but I would assume they work the same way. You have to remove the cross bars, then loosen the ski rack from the crossbar, and finally slide them off the end of the crossbar. Afterwards, re-attach the rack feet to the crossbars, and screw the whole thing back into the roof. A pain in the butt for sure. In the future, I highly recommend Yakima roof rack systems, The ski attachments can be turned so they are parallel with the roof. No wind noise!
