KingsmanMastiffs@aol... or PM me
bOOmEr03 02-06-2004, 07:02 PM I missed the last one, but im down for this one!
Any idea's about where or when?
how about a state park somewhere or something like that...if not i liked the pics from the first one, DC always has somewhere nice to hang.
Fizzyrider 02-07-2004, 09:02 AM what about a run to the mnts? Skyline drive would yield some nice pics. Harpers ferry would be good to. or there are lots of larger parks in the area, one by quantico and bull run battlefield leap to mind right away but im sure there are more.
kmj187 02-07-2004, 09:56 PM Last meetup was fun, although a bit chilly, but we all got over it!!! My E is soon to be repaired for the infamous windshield crack, but should be in shape for another meetup. I am for it. If we do the DC area again? Anyone been to haines point? The park in the South West with the 15 foot arm coming out of the ground? WOuld be an excellent spot for some E pics? I can also do some video editing if anyone is up for video as well?
http://homepage.mac.com/kev4evr/PhotoAlbum22.html
brendan 02-07-2004, 11:08 PM That'd be fun: what's the parking situ around haine's point?
-brendan
kmj187 02-08-2004, 08:19 AM Mad Parking @ Haines Point!!! If you have never been, it is a park off the South West. It is a Giant Oval & at the Southern mosts point of the big park is where the Anacostia river & potmac meet & is across from historic Ft. Mcnair. There is a huge statue of a man climbing from the earth, his head & hands & legs are reaching from the soil & there is an arm about 15' tall reaching into the sky, a very famous, although not often visited landmark. If we lined our E's up behind the statue, it would be a great pic. I can bring a tripod & stuff for some good pics this time, one of myu digital I have has a fisheye lense for some wide shots as well!
LmentalMastiffs 02-08-2004, 10:08 AM OMG!! You guys are awesome!! I love all the ideas!! Bull Run Battlefield, Haines Park, Skyline Drive.....
Lets try right now, for those not interested in traveling very far, Haines Park. Who's down for that?? Should make for some great Shots!!
Kevin, anywhere to get a great video shot of a curvy type lane like out in SF, California? Maybe on McNair or around the Arlington Cemetary?
E ON!!

I'm down with Haines Point.
On the other issue: note that in the *inside* of Arlington Cemetary, they really don't like any hanky panky: they prefer people to be respectful of it as a memorial. They stopped me while I was riding my bike through the main area until I told them I was there to find my grandfather's grave. Then they were fine with it ("just keep the bike on the road..."). Duh.
There might be some good spots on the outside of the cemetary.

Sorry, :? didn't meant to seem disrespectful. I've got family there as well.
As for the drive around DC.. What about out in front of the Capitol? How close can we actually get to it anymore??? :)
Or Even still, McNair is pretty hilly isn't it?? What about on base? We would probably need premission. I can work on that if you guys are up for it??
E ON!!
Kerri
brendan 02-08-2004, 01:25 PM Kerri - didn't mean to imply you were being disrespectful at all. Just, after our run in with the sec/treasurer of the Masons, wanted to make sure our next meet was hassle-free. :)
Used to be I could bike through Ft Myer, and then the outer parts of the cemetery on my way to the potomac trails, but they're not so hot about that after 9/11. However, they were always a bit more rigid with the core of the cemetery, so I've mostly avoided it except while visiting grampa.
Re: Capitol?
Something to scout, but I presume you can't get close at all these days.
Re: McNair
Whoa, had no idea about this base. Pretty good story on the gunpower incident here:
http://www.dcmilitary.com/baseguides/army/mdw/fmmc_ftmcnair.html
Someone forgot to put up a "No Smoking" sign, I guess. :)
From elsewhere, they have a very strict security protocol on vehicles entering the base, and recommend metroing or carpooling even for people who are pre-approved to enter. Probably not such a good plan for an E meet.
-brendan
Fizzyrider 02-08-2004, 02:32 PM Why stay in the city? I know i bought my E to travel in. Mnts are around an hour from dc less for some of us. or maybe a coast trip? Could always get in the twisties and break the tires free! lol
kmj187 02-08-2004, 08:20 PM Kerri~
Cannot think of any twisty spots in DC, I have pretty much covered most of the metro area. I think Haines point to be the best spot for pics being the large amount of space & parking. There are spots along both rivers, one side has historic Ft. Mcnair in the back ground. There is a cool litte bridge we will all drive over on the way to Haines point. I am sure we can park & have someone set up video before we all drive over the bridge by the tidal basin? I will scout out the areas around there before the weekend. I am in DC all the time!
To Answer a few of your questions?
Ft. Mcnair is a Military base & would require everyone coming in to have a Military ID, I have one since I am still in the ARMY reserves on inactive status. Just about any base in the area is closed off to public these days. Mcnair is super small & does not have any good pic spots anyway~
U.S Captiol, you can actually get close to the Capitol, just as close as you could pre- 9/11. The only good spot for pics is along 1st street in the west. The problem being is it is a strictly enforced (No Standing Zone) The U.S. Captitol Police will quickly chase away any group of cars lined up on 1st street, I should know, I am an Officer on Capitol Hill :-P The would not look to kindly to a group of cars blocking the lane on 1st street since there is no shoulder. & I just as well would rather stay away from work on the weekends anyway :-)
I am looking forward to it, let up just hope the weather is good to us? The metro area is full of fun spots, just parking is limited at most? Some weekend road trips would be good, but I think maybe waiting for some nicer weather to enjoy the destinations once we get there to be a good idea?
What does everyone think?
LmentalMastiffs 02-09-2004, 10:01 AM [quote:1123eb6fc6=" "]Why stay in the city? I know i bought my E to travel in. Mnts are around an hour from dc less for some of us. or maybe a coast trip? Could always get in the twisties and break the tires free! lol [/quote:1123eb6fc6]
What about heading up to the Shannandoah? The senery up there is nice this time of year. There is the Parkway up there with lots of twisties?? :D
Anybody up for a trip to the Mtns?? 8)
Any idea on what weekend we wanna do this?? I need to start making some permanent plans here!! Find a lunch spot, get some prizes. To include Scott's Empire Figurines. :D
I'd like to get a scrapbook started and then a sign-in list with members names and email addy's.
So, any more ideas?? Any1 else out there even interested??? :?

bOOmEr03 02-10-2004, 03:05 PM Rockin!!
I'm up for a mtn trip or really if we could head out to the coast for some *member exclusive* pics of our E!'s in their bathing suits!!!
(BEACH!!! lets go to the BEACH!!! or somewhere with water...This area has pretty easy water access....)
I'm down with wheverever, just give me a heads up with the where and when's of it.
and as long as its on a weekend...
my weekdays are pretty busy.
Fizzyrider 02-10-2004, 05:02 PM isnt this weekend long? and we are talking an all day 1 day trip here right?
kmj187 02-10-2004, 07:55 PM It seems like everyone is coming up with some fun ideas :-) Kerri, meetup.com says next weekend is the meet? Is there a meet definitely set up, or you still waiting to see what everyone here comes up with? Whatever comes up, I still offer my services to do some digital video & photography & I can put more picss & event video clips online! So once something more solid comes into play, I am up for it.
Hopefully we can get a turn out close to the last one, it seems everyone had a good time~
bOOmEr03 02-11-2004, 04:05 PM [quote:6efd923e51=" "]It seems like everyone is coming up with some fun ideas :-) Kerri, meetup.com says next weekend is the meet? Is there a meet definitely set up, or you still waiting to see what everyone here comes up with?~[/quote:6efd923e51]
Whats the deal? when's the meet??
LmentalMastiffs 02-12-2004, 09:56 AM Okay, here's my take so far. :)
It looks like we have 5 voted using Meetup.com. Now, if all 5 of us RSVP ~ Yes, then the meet is on and we start off at Mango Mikes again. We have lunch, chat and go from there. I'm thinking Haines Park. :D
This weekend isn't long for me. I may not even be free. We are at the end or our proposal work and I could be working. I'm not missing a meet up because of work. :x
So, I'm thinking, We plan right here, using EOC a get together for next weekend. We can make a day trip and head up to the Mtns or over to the Coast. Those of us in the immediate area can met and E-pool to our destination, picking up others along the way.
Depending on where we want to go, I'll find a place to stop for lunch and a place (possible) for dinner. I'll locate senic spots for photos and even try to find a spot for our very first Video.
But we all have to come up with a spot/trip we all can agree on!! So, should I do a poll for this? What do you think? Listing all the ideas to date and let you folks choose? The one with the most votes is where we head? I need to know, we need to get working on this ASAP.
So, PM me if you have ideas, or share with the group! Next weekend will give me time to gather prizes and Scott's (Empire) action figures. This weekend will consist of me PM'ing all those in this immediate area on the EOC members board and informing them of our intent. So, lets begin planning!!!
E ON!!!!
element_monster 02-12-2004, 01:14 PM I will have to talk to Rosie, but I am pretty sure we can make it.
Brendan, why did you have to mention the creepy Masonite? He's the Treasurer / Parking lot Attendant / Leader of World Domination Council guy... Is there any thing that he doesn't do?
LmentalMastiffs 02-12-2004, 02:20 PM :D Okay, searching the internet as opposed to actually doing any work here at work.. lol  I've managed to come up with the following:
Haines Point, DC ~ Thanks Kevin
Skyline Drive (Blue Ridge Parkway) ~ Thanks Fizzy
Assateague Island ~ Thanks Boomer (beach idea)
Apple Orchard Falls Trail (off the Blue Ridge) (*see pic @ bottom)
Harpers Ferry, WV
Bull Run (Manassas) Battlefield
Natural Bridge, Salem
I've also contacted Sheehey Honda (where I bought mine) to see if they would be interested in sponsoring a Made E trip. lol  That will take some work on my part and won't happen anytime soon...
The website I'm using to search out some trip sites is as follows:
http://activities.wildernet.com/index.cfm
This site show's off several AWESOME places within the Blue Ridge/Shannondoah area. Along with Apple Orchard Falls trail, pic below.

element_monster 02-12-2004, 02:56 PM I want to see horsies necking!!! Not really...
Since I am lazy and know where Mango Mike's is, I vote for meeting there and then continuing to one of these picturesque sites.
element_monster 02-12-2004, 02:59 PM I just thought of something. Since so many of you have dogs, we should just go to a park one day and everyone can bring their best friends. There are lots of pretty parks along GW Parkway (Fort Hunt Park and other smaller ones) and I think there is a dog park somewhere near Potomic Yard. Just another idea to add to the list. Since Rose and I don't have dogs, we want to pet yours!
afterthought: it's still winter, isn't it? oops.

LmentalMastiffs 02-12-2004, 03:56 PM Anyone up for taking over a B&B on the Eastern Shore or out in Shannandoah for a weekend.
That would take a hellO of a lot of planning on my part. So, not happening anytime soon.... But might be best out of season, if you get my drift...

I'm all for that one!!!
Only my crew are miniture horses.. lol I have 3 Mastiffs out of my 5 dogs that love the dog park.. Got 2 that are dog aggressive :( , so they don't go anywhere..
That's another idea.. Maybe a meet outside our monthly meets.. lolol There is a dog park over my way that has a creek running through it.. But that would be for much warmer weather..

Goleaf 02-12-2004, 07:14 PM Hey new-be here out in Leesburg.... but I am defenitely in! I'll keep checking for updates!
Quahog 02-12-2004, 08:03 PM I'd be interested, but need more time to plan. I'm gettin' my wheels tomorrow (yeah!) and have family coming into town over the weekend so this weekend is out. I'd be up for something in DC for my first meet-up. There must be a way we can get a pic of the E's with the Washington monument in the background. I just can't recall the roads. What about the Iwo Jima memorial near the back entrance to Ft Myer? That would look good in a pic. As for video, we could probably do something cool around the rotary on the way to the cemetary from memorial bridge. (If I recall there is one there, but it's been a while...)

kmj187 02-12-2004, 08:29 PM Well if we do end up in DC for pics, I still throw my vote towards haines point, it i just so unique, the pics would be sure to get some attention!!! The monument in DC would be tough to get in the background, all the streets around it are no parking other than Constitution & finding a row of spots for our E's would be more than difficult. Finding just one spot on a good day is a challenge.
Keep the ideas coming though. Anyone know how to add a picture to these posts?
bOOmEr03 02-13-2004, 06:43 PM Can we do it on Sunday??? I have a *date* Saturday...and while I will be in D.C. all day, it would probably be better to not bring a date on a car club meet on the first date, you know?
Besides, Sunday of next week has the better forecast I think!!
As for location, I'm down with wherever!
(And even though I suggested it....) Maybe a beach trip would be better in March or May??? (Still kinda out of season, but warmer!)
Also, I have a Beach house in Southern MD. down by Point Lookout & Point Lookout State Park (which would probably be an awesome meet spot! park, picnic, light house, playground, beach area, fishing pier, etc...) I might be able to arrange something later on in the summer like a weekend or something. Its right on the Chesapeake Bay maybe would could do a BBQ or something, crab feast, whatever. But its gotta be warmer and probably wouldn't materialize until the summertime (we have to go down and de-winterize and finish cleaning up from hurricane Isabel (we got hit pretty hard) But thats a definite idea if you guys are up for something like that.
Plus I think it would be awesome to freak that locals out, i went down last summer and stopped at the grocery to pick up some stuff and one of the locals came up to me as i was leaving and literally asked me "What in the hell is that thing?" to which my chipper reply was "My Element." He was like "oh." then i gave him the tour. Ha Ha!
Anyhow, yeah, so my vote is for having the meet next Sunday!
kmj187 02-13-2004, 09:15 PM Just got my rear wing in the mail, painted eternal blue pearl to match my E! Plus I got a new 40GB ipod for my accessory port. Good times with new toys!
LmentalMastiffs 02-17-2004, 10:01 AM :D Okay,
Right now, We have Mango Mike's, 'The Bananna Room' reserved for this Saturday at NOON. Anyone else interested in doing this on Sunday??!! Speak now or forever hold your peac'E'.
If not, Then Saturday, 21st, at Noon, at Mango Mike's. We'll eat, chat, and then maybe head down to Haines Point for some kewl pics. Unless there is another idea after lunch.
Look, I'd also like to chat about maybe making this a true 'E' Club. I've considered asking my dealership, Sheehey Honda to sponsor us. There are other things we can do as a group as well. If anyone besides me would be interested. But it's something we can all talk about this weekend.
So, let me know, change it for Sunday or keep it Saturday??? I think after this meet, we'll forego using Meetup.com.
Okay, E ON!!!!!

Fizzyrider 02-17-2004, 03:48 PM you might want to ask Koons honda of mannassas also. Koons is the largerst dealer in the area. they had 20 elements on the lot at one time last month, all 2003s but still.
kmj187 02-17-2004, 05:14 PM OK~ If any of you where at the last meet, you may of heard my laundry list of problems my E has had & then a couple weeks ago my windshield cracked. The Windshield cracking was my 8th E repair in 6 months. I was almost ready to get rid of it, but man I loved driving that thing. :?
So it was noises & creaks that started the 6 month repair ordeal, the tailgate came loose, the drivers door came loose & the dash/windshield moaned & creaked. The sounds ended up getting fixed & I was happy, the even threw in free fog lights.
So then the windshield cracked, everyone knows about the infamous windshield, craked in the corner the noises once came from. They put in the new windshield & woudlnt you know it, all the noises that put it in the shop to begin with had returned
I was about to put my honda in the shop for the 9th time, the 9TH time!!! Well, I ended up driving into a Toyota dealer this weekend & trading it in on an 04 Tacoma, I had a Toyota pickup for 7 years prior to my E & it only went in the shop once. My E is gone gone gone. I purchased my E at invoice ($17,200) the gave me $17,000 for trade & took $500 off the sticker of the Tacoma. I drove in owing $14,900 on my 03 E, & drove out owing $16,100 on my 04 Toyota! I have no regrets. The E is a fun car, but honda let me down so much, no reason for a 6 month old car to go in for repair 9 times~ 1st model year or not~
So I wish the very best of luck for all of you that your E's do not fail for you as mine did for me. Maybe honda will improve its product soon & no cut so many corners :-(
I have an Eternal Blue Rear Air Deflector for sale, since I never got mine put on. It has been painted & clear coated. sigh~
I have no more E for the E meet

Actually, it depends on how many showed up....
we just finished adding 3 extra rooms with 2 beds apiece in them, totalling our bedroom count out at 6, not counting cots, plus porch space(more cots) and plenty of room outside for throwing up tents!
In response to your query though, yeah--Point Lookout State Park---they allow for camping. there are 2 camp grounds that I know of, plus multiple ones in the area near there. or those wishing to camp and not pay for camping fees can pitch in the yard...its pleny big enough. I think they recently added a 2$ fee to get in to the park or something like that (it didn't used to be that way) and they also have a civil war museum and an aquamarine museum of some sort with neat little critters.
I think it'd be really cool to have a meet at the house, you'd all have to bring fishing gear and I hope you'd all know how to crab! (we do a lot of that....and what we can't catch, we can buy from the watermen!) or a BBQ/Bonfire something like that. The Bay is not 50 feet from the front of the porch. On the Western coast of the bay with Point No Point (lighthouse)out front of the house (not like right out front, but blinking out front) Its in a small town by Ridge MD. called Scotland.
But anyhow, whats up with the meet this weekend???
Any chance of a Sunday thing???
bOOmEr03 02-17-2004, 07:58 PM Or is it set in stone Mango Mike's this Saturday, the 21st at Noon...and then on to Haines Point...
I mean, I could probably meet up with you guys at Haines Point, but i probably couldn't make it to Mango Mike's at noon.
What time do you all think you'd be at Haines Point???
I could maybe work something out there....

I'm truly sorry you wouldn't let HONDA work out the kinks in your E. You are more than welcome to show up to the next meet if you wish. We'd love to have ya, E or not. Oh, don't forget the digi-cam.

kmj187 02-18-2004, 02:26 PM Yah I am sad as well I could not let Honda work the kinks out of my E. 8 trips to the shop over 7 months & about 45 days total trhe dealer had the E in their shop. I am known to be an extremely patient person, but I could not do this anymore. I am a police officer on Capitol Hill, I work long hours & putting the E in & out of the shop was burning up my leave & disrupting my work schedule. I really needed something a bit more realiable to get to & from work. The E just was not cutting it. Sadly I had to move on, I was a long time Toyota Truck driver before the E, so I have confindence in it.

I accidently listed it (defector) silly, but it still has bids on it. I orriginally listed it for $175 or $195-with a buy it now. if someone wants to give me the $195 for it, I will cancel the auction. The wing is beautifully painted, the shop I got it from did an incredible job. I am still going to head to mango mikes & grab some food & drink fun of it, even though I am E-less. I truly wish the rest of you better luck than me with your E's. I will bring my camera as well!

Wow Kevin,
I was thinking about you this week when I took my Element in for th 4th time to get the rattle fixed. I just picked it up tonite and guess what ????
IT STILL RATTLES JUST AS BAD AS EVER !!!! :x
Sounds like the whole rattle thing revolves around the windshield cracking issue. What a mess and a big pain in the butt. I don't blame you at all for letting it go. I love my E too but sometimes I feel like pushing it off a cliff when that rattle gets going. How awful that all your rattles came back after the windshield install......totally frustrating just reading about it. Well if I get to the next meet it will be nice to see you again and hang out with the rest of the E owners. Maybe down the road when the E is improved you will get another. First year models evidently have all kinds of problems as we have witnessed first hand. Congrats on your Toyota Tacoma. My friend Heather who came to the meet last time with me said her father just bought a Tacoma truck today. I hear they had a good write up on quality.
Take care.

LmentalMastiffs 02-19-2004, 10:17 AM :( Seeing as how I'm "hosting" this meetup this Saturday, I hate this. I have had an unexpected family issue come up and I can't make the Meeting on Saturday. Sunday is even bad for me. :?
The Banana Room at Mango Mike's is still reserved if you guys/gals want to show up, have lunch, chat and then head out for Pictures. If not, let me know and I'll cancel the room at Mike's.
As for the last weekend in February, it's horrible for me as well. Sorry guys/gals. You are way welcome to show up to Mike's and have a meet without me.
Let me know whatcha wanna do?????
E ON!!!
