My 2003 E has had a fast idle even when warmed up. About 800-900 RPM equating to 10 MPH pressure when stopped in gear. If I just let it go from stopped I can go about 10 MPH. Any fixes? Dealer says since its computer controlled and its a "characteristic" of Es. I usually move to neutral at lights.

And 670-770 RPM with the A/C on.

Bah-loney. Ask your service writer to have the mechanic check the service manual again for the proper spec. All engines are computer controlled these days - you were being fed a line to get rid of you.
Just for grins, disconnect the battery for 10-15 minutes to reset the ECU. It should re-learn the idle parameters after that. If it doesn't calm down, back to the dealer it goes.

Be sure to have your radio security code handy when you disconnect the battery!

MY automatic E idles at that speed 800-900 rpm when in drive and I am stopped. Any lower idle and the car will die. This idle speed is correct for the automatic E. All automatic cars will have some pull to them. I tested my E and it goes about 5 mph(starts out very slow) from a dead stop and not appling the accelerator. I wouldnt worry about this at all.

There is a TSB on that issue.

my e revs on its own from about 1k to 2k when i put the clutch in at a light or sompthing. when i am moving along and i let off the gas i dont notice any acceleration.. im wondering if it could be the idle air control or the tps. any ideas
