I discovered that it looks like you have to have both rear seats in if you want to allow the left rear seatbelt to work.

The connector for the left rear seat belt appears to be on the right rear seat. It was quite a surprise, and left my rear passenger no way to secure themselves with a seatbelt.

Unless I couldn't see it in the dark, I could not find a place on the left rear seat to connect the seat belt, and I did not have the right seat available at the time to allow the passenger to connect the seat belt.

Hmm. I'll have to go check that out.

Normally, when I drive with a seat up, it's always the driver's side rear seat, since putting the passenger side rear seat up blocks my vision too much. If what you say is true, that might be the reason they chose one side over the other (though why they had to choose a particular side instead of symmetry is another issue altogether).

Other than when I'm helping someone move, I never take the seats all the way out.

Sorry to disappoint you. It was just to dark for you to see it. It must have gotten jammed down in the seat or something. Or, you just flat don't have one. That would be funny.

But, if you want to be freaked out about something, go join the "rusty breaks" thread.

Bill,

How embarassing. The clasp for the seat belt was there all the time. My passenger was sitting on it! So much for the "Princess and the Pea".

That's a riot. Like my friend and his family who spent 15 minutes looking for his baseball hat taking the whole house apart, only to find it on his head.

Actually, it's quite understandable. When I first started using my E for camping, I was concerned that the seat belt attachment couldn't be moved out of the way and that it would be jabbing at me... But with the way it tucks in there just right, I can sleep the full night and not even notice that it's there.
