Yesterday morning I walked out to my 2 month E and found a 2 inch crack, from the driver side lower corner. As the day went on it went from a 2 inch crack to a 8" crack. This morning it was about 16, and now before I came in the house it reached a whopping 24 " SO... my questions are this 1. for the this crack issue am I going to have to beat my dealers service manager head off the window before he fixes it (or call honda for this curtiosy window change that I read so much about)? 2. for anyone with a crack issues following the service warning, how far did it spred and in what time fram?

I love my E, but this is a problem I don't want have repeat, I had a old car before this with a crack in the windshield for about 4 years, that never moved if some one can answer these question I have to go tot he dealer on Monday or Tuesday depending on when the service manager decides to come into the office

Yuck.

Be prepared: Document, document, document.

Spend some time searching for the threads from EOC (and hondasuv.com, perhaps) and printing them out. Print out the TSB as a reference (even though you are out of the serial # range). Print out the NHTSA thread on windshield cracks.

Use a highlighter to highlight the juicy bits.

When you get to the dealership, bring it in and make it clear this wasn't an impact crack. If they balk, mention the TSB. If they deny it, produce it. If they give you crap about the serial # range, drop the rest of the documents into their laps.

If that doesn't work, the next options are asking to speak with the honda-rep next time they visit that dealership, or starting over at another dealer/service department.

Some good advice:
"Goodwill gesture my a*s"
They are responsible for a poor design. It's called Product Liability, a term i'm sure they are familiar with. Also "Implied Warranty of Merchantibility" that comes with every American product...i.e. the product will perform reasonably well (is 'fit') for it's intended purpose. A windshield with a proclivity to crack after just a few hundred miles is NOT fit for it's intended purpose. Honda is liable and they know it. They just don't want to admit anything they can avoid admitting. Next time (when they refuse another 'good will gesture') also try the California State Automotive Repair Bureau or maybe Consumer Affairs."

Contact the A/G office in your state. Minnesota's AG, Mike Hatch, would jump at the opportunity to hammer Honda over the winshield fiasco. He's controversial, fearless, and a master of manipulating TV. Have you such a person in your state? How about contacting a lawyer? Try one of those TV guys specializing in class action suits. What do you have to lose? If I crack up I'm taking my son-in-law with me to the confrontation. When in full blown lawyer mode he's scary as h**l. And I would be all business. Polite but not chummy because, imo, it will be a confrontation. And I would'nt go to another dealer if you get stonewalled. Keep applying presssure. As Brendan says, be prepared. Rehearse your presentation and keep a log with dates, times, etc. And don't let them do a version of the "bad/cop/good cop" routine. E.G., " bob is sometimes abrasive, but I think you make a pretty good case, BUT...

And if you're told say, that Honda has firm policies as to what they will and will not do, pull out your EOC printoouts and ask why the disparity between dealerships in resolving similar or the same problems. Remember,
" They just don't want to admit anything they can avoid admitting."

Good Luck.

If your dealer refusses to replace your windshield like mine did, read my post "Everyone Must Call" in problems and issues. After I filed my complaints my windshield was replaced in a weeks time.

OK there was a chip right on the rubber mounting, but I never had a windsheild in the 12 years I've been driving crack like this. I am a little amazed/dissappointed at the fragillness of this windsheild I would hate to see if something big would hit it . it would spider web across would be my guess. I love my e but I guss my next step is to get a hood air deflector from H and A

cracks on windshields grow rapidly. my mazda miata's windshield cracked 2 days after i got it (from a rock) and what started out as a 3 inch crack ended up growing to over a foot in less than 2 days.
