my element seems to... um what the best way to put it, release gas every once in a while. It smells very close to what rotten eggs would smell like. Anyone know what's the cause of this? ( and it ain't coming from me)

It's the catalytic converter combined with either the gas you're buying or the seasonal mix in your area.

Had the problem in december, gone in january. Not sure if it was due to where I bought the gas or just that it got replaced with a different mix due to changing season/regulations.

I agree - it's the cat alright. Had the same issue at about 1500 miles. Only had it for about a week, then it was gone. I heard that the new Accords have the same issue too - which is fitting since it shares the same 4 cylinder engine setup as the Element.

It is a byproduct of the cat and the current gas formulation being used by the refiners. The "winter formulation" seems to cause this so having it happen in Dec/Jan is pretty normal.
