: ipod Mount - I want EVERYONES opinion - which one?
paulbradley1 02-10-2004, 06:25 AM Hi All,
I've been trolling the forums for a while, but havent seen what I'm looking for:
:?: What is the Best way to mount the ipod in the 'E'? :?:
I dont really want an air vent mount, not really crazy about putting something sticky on the dash (or anywhere else), and I'm not sure about the height of the stands that go in the cup holders (my 1st choice).
There is an interesting case/holder @ http://www.xtrememac.com/foripod/xtremity.shtml, but they are sold out till Feb 23rd.
On Another note: This Sitehttp://tunertricks.com/iPodinstall.htm has some REALLY cool hard mounted solutions.
Ok fellow 'E' owners - tell me what you think! :D
jeffvb9 02-10-2004, 11:43 AM This might work out pretty good:

Before I decide If anyone else would like to chime in...
80honda 02-11-2004, 08:05 AM Do you remove the radio to mount the mount?

eMass 02-11-2004, 10:53 AM If I wanted to do the cleanest iPod mount possible I'd choose a passenger seat bolt mounted 15" flexible stalk installation with a proclip ipod holder.
Here's a link to the holder and a picture of it:

You might also consider this type of mount instead of the stalk:

paulbradley1 02-11-2004, 11:01 AM Dammit! I was all excited, now I've got MORE options! lol, thanks Emass! :D
dbpaddler 02-11-2004, 04:39 PM Emass has showed the nicest ones. The company that actually makes them is proclip usa. I actually worked with them to make a holster and car holder for my I500 phone. They do great work and their products are top notch. Solid fit with no permanent modification to your dash. They make a mount for just about any car and holders for just about any electronic device. And if they don't make one for what you have, email them (or me) and they might be willing to make it if they think there's enough interest. All of their products are machined, not injection molded so they're able to make smaller quantities of product with little overhead. Their products cost a little more than their injection molded counterparts, but their selection is the best around. Here's their site: ProClipUSA (www.proclipusa.com)
ropedart.1 02-12-2004, 03:41 AM Nice stuff but what I have works for me. Hard to find now.
I got this rare, discontinued cell phone mount for old big cellphones. Its got squeeze jaws that will take an Ipod. Its got a long arm with a suction cup on one end and a cell phone mount on the other. The long arm rests on top of the dash and the suction cup sucks to the windshield. Well you know suction cups always lose their suction. Except in this case the weight of the phone levers the suction cup up against the windshield. The suction never fails and I didn't know how this worked until I installed it. I like this thing because I can put my device right in front of me. I can read the display without taking my eyes off the road. It frees up my vents, center console, cup holders etc. Its behind the airbag too.
Hard to find now but for all you Canadians I found similar surplus mounts at Princess Auto (the dollar store for hardware) for 4 bucks each. I bought 3 for future considerations.
Don't get the Proclip mount!! I hated mine. It blocked access to the volume knob on the radio and puts your Ipod in the flow of either hot or cold air (given the time of year) from your vent.
If you want to try the Proclip, I may still have mine. I removed it. It also makes the dash look cluttered.

I'd love to buy the actual iPod holder piece (not the clip for the dash) from you if you still have it and are willing to part with it.
I have a 3G 20GB ipod - I'm telling you this because I understand that there are different model holders that proclip sells for the ipod.
If you'd like I could Paypal you some agreeable amount.
Best,

The unfortunate thing with the Element and proclip is that it's the only mount of it's kind where you don't need any tools or screws and such to put it in. That part is great, but unfortunate for E owners because the slots between trim pieces are far apart and thus you have to use a longer piece for fixation. I mentioned that to them when I got the E. I'd like to see something from them that could just clip on between the sub enclosure and the rest of the dash on top. I'm not sure about vibration noise, but it's one of the only convenient spots to put something. The heat from the top vents won't kill your Ipod or anything else for that matter. Besides I think it pumps out too much heat after awhile, and I just use the lower setting as it still works the two round side vents anyway.
I'm probably going to end up taking my proclip mount off of the belkin vent clip holder and double stick tape it to the left of the shift lever so it hides the hazards button. It's convenient for hand placement and out of the glare of the sun.
The other company I saw that had a mount that attached to the mounting screw of the head unit only offered it on the right side of the dash which made it to far away for any practical use. Though Proclips Ipod mount and their dash mount holder would be a great solution. If I can remember the company, I'll post it.
