: 18x8 wheels and tein basic. What camber are you running in the rear?
Dameez Good 09-02-2010, 09:50 PM I recently installed tein basic suspension and 18x8 wheels on my element. My coilovers are at the lowest setting and my camber in the rear is -3.3 (Yes, I'm using camber kits in the front and rear). I want to bring my camber in to about -2.5 degrees. But, I'm sure the rears will rub the fenders. It's a guarantee I'll have to cut/roll the fenders. But, wanted to know if anyone out there (who may/may not be running the same setup) can offer any advice.
Thanks!

Darth Raider 09-02-2010, 11:28 PM There is no way around it, you either have to cut out the rears (like I did), or roll them, that's strictly up to you! But that's the only way your going to be able to adjust the camber to were you want it.

Dameez Good 09-04-2010, 04:51 PM I've already lost the two tabs because of rubbing. :-) Raising my car is really not a desired option. So I'll be taking care of those fenders soon. Thanks Chief. I really appreciate it!
Dmag310 10-01-2010, 02:44 AM I really like those wheels! how flush are they, can you snap some more pics?

my ele isn't dropped all the way to the bottom because i end up putting a lot of weight in the back. But I still run a -1 degree camber in the back and i get rub from time to time. I never cut out my fenders..... they just burned out from rub one really long trip...... stupid, I know. remember, how negative camber you run will greatly affect life and wear on your tires. your ele looks sick though!
vfxraven19 10-06-2010, 02:10 PM Just curious as to what tire size you're running? I have 18x8's and 235-55-18's and my rears rub still, EVEN with cut fenders. My fender/wheel guy said it could be because of the tires (bit too tall and wide). On the inner fender wall on the drivers side, there seems to be paint/liner rubbing off - maybe the tires are rubbing from the inside instead of the fenders. It's getting on my nerves, and might have to resort back to 225-55's. I'm on KSports by the way.
Darth Raider 10-06-2010, 05:07 PM Mark...It all depends on your off-set as to what type of clearance you're going to get! When I had the SC wheels they were 18X7 with a 45mm off-set, the tires were 235X55X18 and rubbing was not an issue. My 19's were 19X8 with a 47mm, 245X45X19 tires and I still didn't rub. And now I'm running 20X9.5 with a custom 41.7mm off-set, 245X40X20 tires and I'm still not rubbing.

My wheels have a 48mm offset - rubbing w/ 235-55-18 (with current lower KSport setup). I'm sure it I still had the SC wheels, they would clear fine... but w/ my current lower-than-eibach-springs setup, it's rubbing somewhere. I want to try OEM tire size...

With a 48mm off-set, I would check the front inside tires and rims. Because with the 47mm off-set on the 19's, I was clearing the front inside by only about a quarter of an inch. If that's where it is, it's just a matter on popping on a couple of spacers, and you're good to go!

I went with 245-45-18s. The offset is 40 in the front and 35 in the rear. The wheels are all 18x8s. But, Axis has a staggered option and that's why the offsets are different.

Thanks DMAG. I'll try to get some better pics for you. They are Axis Pentas. Personally, I think they flush nicely. Going from 16x6.5 45 off to 18x8 40 & 35 worked well. The fronts have a 2 inch lip and the rears have a 3 inch lip.

Thanks CBOI. Negative camber isn't necessarily bad. I've taken some pretty fast turns since I lowered the eL. LOL I look at the High rollover risk warning on my visor and laugh now.
vfxraven19 10-11-2010, 01:28 AM Seems my lower stance has a price... having 18x8, and being lower, BOTH the left and right lower trailing arms are SCRAPING against the inner wheel/rim edge. See image:

What would suggest, other than raising the E a little higher, and possibly spacers? With spacers, will it clear the cut fenders?
AztecRol 10-11-2010, 01:47 AM vfxraven19, you say your rims are 18 X 8, but what offset.
what size tires are you running just out of curiosity??

Those are your only choices, you've got to get that rim away from the lower trailing arms. Or, you're going to have to buy new wheels with a lower off-set.

vfxraven19 10-11-2010, 11:59 AM @Rol: +48mm offset
@Chief: Thx Chief, I'm looking at my options now. Steve (Insane_sc) recommended torch-heating the affected area on the trail arms and sledgehammering it a bit flatter to get more clearance (he was able to get 1/2" clearance). My only issue, I don't have access to a torch.
I will trying raising the E back to about what it was w/ the Eibachs (about 3 fingers gap all around, 1" front from stock, 1.5" rear from stock).
I am looking for wheels too, not really in the market to get tires too, just wheels - so maybe I can have the shop re-wrap my current tires on the new wheels w/ lower offset and smaller width. Ugh.... $$$
The least $ spent fixing this, the better, obviously.

I would say your offset is to high. You pushed the rim 3mm closer to the
inside, as well as another 1/2inch from the rim. (Depending on the rim).
You can get away with a 3mm or a 5mm spacer without getting longer
lug bolts. This will push your rims closer toward the fender. Im sure you are
not rubbing now, so pushing it out may make it rub on the fenders.
If you are gonna look for new rims, look for a +42 to +43. If you stay with
the 8 inch wide rim, that should keep you safe.
If you are looking from some 18s, and dont mind the staggered look, check
these babies out!!! If I were getting 18s, I would be ALL OVER THESE!!!!

mr2driver 10-17-2010, 12:12 AM I don't think you should get a skinnier width, just get a smaller offset. I have 18x8 +30, I rolled the fender, and cut the plastic away and mine doesnt rub anything underneath. I am running -.8 camber and I can lower it to about .25" wheel gap between the tire and the fender without rubbing as long as I am not carrying anything in the back (normally run .5" pictured below). +48 is just no good. I feel like the offset I have is pretty optimal. If you wanted to avoid trimming, I would guesstimate a +35 with about -1.5 camber would do it in an 8" width (235 tire). Pull the toe out as far as it will go. Please see below link for reference pictures.

Here's an updated picture. I corrected my camber to -1.5 in the front and -1.75 in the rear.
