I know someone will probably tell me this has been discussed before and to run a search, but that's what I've been doing for the past hour and I've given up:

Can someone please tell me what the the wires colors are for the power antenna leads and the ground wires for the factory HU?

The installer has connected my ground wires to the wire colored black w/ silver dots. And he has connected my amp turn on wire to the yellow w/ red wire. I know this can't be correct.

Thanks in advance.

...(the service manual)...

Power antenna is yellow w/green tracer. Ground is black, which is the standard for ground throughout the vehicle.

Of note... the yellow/green wire is not exclusively for the antenna. It is the universal "stereo power on" lead that also tells the outboard amplifier to turn on.

You're the man Mike! THanks!

Still can't believe the installation shop I went messed up EVERYTHING.
(polarities were reversed and everything....)

I don't mean to say "I told you so" but I kinda knew they were putting the screws to ya when they were trying to upsell you in order to work around an install problem. That's usually a clear indicator of a sleazebag amateur shop.

Don't lose faith - there really are honest, competent installers out there - you just gotta find them, it does seem that it's getting harder to find them however.

EMass,

You were so right. But I do have faith that there are decent installers somewhere. It's just so sad to see so many places around my area that are just sleazebags.

In any case, my speakers will be working fine soon enough. Need to get a crimping kit, a couple vampire taps, several speed clips and baffles and I'm good to go.

This has all been a good learning experience, though. Better on my E than a more expensive car. And at least this way, in the future, I'll know what to look out for and where to set my expectations.

I'm with you guys, when I lived in Guam, it was all sleeze bag installers, & here in So Cal, it's not much different. I took installing into my own hands & learned how to do it. I've done 3 deck/speaker installs now. It's not that hard, & kinda fun too. The only thing that really threw me off was the door speaker wiring. I didn't have the quick connects. I found the correct color codes on a Honda Insight website, & that worked perfect. Atleast you know what is being done to your car vice your car going into a bay that you cant really see into. I did my first amp this weekend & was real scared, but it turned out to be pretty easy. Took me like 6 hours to do, but it was worth it. The longest part was that I didn't want to drill through the firewall, so I was in search of a hole to run my battery power. Finally found one & was good to go. Anyway, just my 2 cents...

Later,
Chap
