So im thinking about upgrading my stock tires(they only have 3k on them). Im looking for a year round tire that has excellent snow and ice performance. I live high in the Rockies so traction is very important. I think I will stay with stock size unless im told otherwise

If you are set on an all-season tire for the winter (rather than a dedicated snowtire) you may want to look at the Nokian WRG2 SUV.

I know many disparage Consumer Reports ratings here. They came around to the thinking of those on this site and rated them tops! Must be they read all the positive posts here and decided they better get on board.:-)

I have great results with the Geolanders year round in the Tahoe area. Also the ride is so much more quiet. FWIW

I have the Nokian WRG2 tires in the 225/70s and that is a higher load roated or heavy duty tire versus the standard/stock size. They are a bit heavier but the load rating is a lot more. This gives the E a much more heavy solid feel over the old tires I had in the same size.

I have not had a chance to run them in the snow yet...:-(

BFG TA KO tires are one of the few non-snow tires to meet the severe-snow conditions requirement (snow flake on mountain symbol on sidewall). They have the coarsest tread of any tire in the stock size. If you are willing to accept the noise they might be the best tire for the Rockies, both on backroads and unplowed snow. They wouldn't, though, be as good as a snow tire in icy conditions

Another vote for the Yokohama Geolander H/T's. I haven't seen the Nokians that are bandied around here lately but the Geolander's have been a crowd favorite for years here and they sure are nice. Probably less expensive than the Nokian tires too. PLUS (BIG plus) you can get them from Discount Tire.

I know all this has been discussed but im leading towards the nokian wrg2 suv. What advantages and disadvantages of gettign the 215 vs the 225. I assume the 225 will fit fine on my stock rims? Gas Millage? Snow traction? tpms issues?

Thanks for all the info. Ive found the 215(did not ask about the 225) for 149 installed. Seems like a fair price.

225 (same 70) are 2% larger in diameter. That increases your ground clearance by 1/4". Negligible change in traction.

We put 225 WR G2s on ours a few weeks ago and so far they are much nicer than the old Coopers that were on it. The speedo is within 1-2 mph on the highway based on our GPS. You could probably get a better price buying online and having them installed, but $149 each doesn't seem out of line. I can't address the rest.

You will love them!


They are the best all around tire I have ever driven on! Bar None. Outstanding in the snow. Fantastic on wet roads, and more then adequate on dry pavement.
