: Installing aftermarket GPS/DVD system in 05' Honda Element EX

Hello,

I've been scouring this board for the last month or so. It is a fantastic source of information. We bought an 05' Element EX as a second car because we needed a utility vehicle. We have since fallen in love with it though and use it as our main car.

Since we use the car so much I want to install an in-dash GPS system. I've been searching for weeks and I found this system.

It is extremely cheap and looks perfect for our needs. It is made for the CR-V though so I'm not sure if it will fit.

Can anyone offer any advice on fitting this? I'm guessing it would involve a purchase from either Metra or Scosche.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The elements head unit is a rectangle, this one is more of a square, so the box might fit but the face plate with buttons probably won't fit straight, even without cutting to shape.

Thanks for the reply. I agree, I would have to do a lot of cutting of plastic.

I found this unit made for the Jazz that looks like a better fit.

It's more than a little annoying that these companies don't make units specifically for the Element yet they do for the rest of the Honda lineup.

have you ever used any 'generic' chinese electronics like the ones you're linking? they tend to have all the features (on paper) and a great price, but the implementation is typically lacking.... it'll play music, but crash, or the screen won't work properly, or gps will have poor resolution or speed, etc. etc.

just like the knockoff handbags -

if i were you, i'd invest in a major manufacturer unit instead like a Pioneer or Kenwood for maybe $1-300 more...

just my $.02

No, I've never used a GPS unit from one of the Chinese manufacturers but I have read great things about Caska. From what I've been told these units are based on Caska's basic platform.

I frankly don't care about how long I get out of it. For less than $500 I can have a system with all the bells and whistles and that I can tweak. The ability to fit the unit is what most concerns me. It's only a toy.

The reason all these other model specific units are made is that due to the shape of the dash or how the HU is mounted they need a special design or mounting kit. The E can use just about any single or double din unit on the market.

Where do you plan to mount the GPS antenna? I'm trying to figure this out right now.

The dash seems to be the most logical place, my problem is how to get the cable from the back of the HU up to the dash.

Any suggestions would be great.....

All nice and hidden. If I ever install a GPS, this is how I'd do it.
