I was out shopping, and as I neared my car I saw a woman say that's ugly and make a barfing/gagging motion with her mouth and hand. To make matters worse, she did it twice. Now, I don't think the element is beautiful, but I really don't consider it ugly!

Another woman where I work said it was funny looking. Now that I can live with, 'cause it's really different looking from anything else out on the road. But ugly - nooooo!

M Ornett,

Beauty is in the eye of the whatever.

Let me ask you this question, did you get the Element cause other people thought it was great looking or because you liked it?

I was just shocked that someone would think it was ugly ugly.

You need an emoticon for tongue-in-cheek postings.

You need to run into more kids, they LOVE it!! I had a bunch of 14 year olds tell me last night how cool it was! Made me feel like a kid. Stay away from those old crotchety types, they are bad for your spirit! Hold your head up and be proud, you drive an Element!!

I would have to hold back from a pithy remark about how it might have been the pan calling the kettle black. A saying my Irish nanna taught me.

I got my feelings hurt today, too. I heard some teens (they had to be teens) yell out the word UGLY when they were turning behind me! Their '87 Cavalier was soooooo much prettier than my E!

I can tell the blow was almost mortal! How will you ever drive your Element again? We should trade them all in for more conventional SUV's so the kids won't notice us.

OK - get in line behind me!

i get the ugly comment all the time. but as a designer i am always looking for something to turn peoples heads. i cant say that it is the most beutiful car on the road but its different and it sparks a reaction. i love my E and find that some of the people i work with say that its ugly but before the end of our conversasion end up saying thats pretty cool. it s only a matter of time.

That was the remark of one of the VP's where I work. I told him -

Yeah - it's kinda ugly, kinda cute - I guess that makes it

"Pretty" ugly!

Everyone got a laugh at that.

Two days and nothing but raves so far. My two best best friends (also fifty somethings) said they had to have one within two minutes of going for a ride and a young black kid came over to me in the parking lot told me how he loved every Honda he's had (and resold them for good money) and how he can't wait to get an Element. You must live in a bad part of the world (8*)

Another comment that fits my userid.

I took my kid sister w/ me to go pick mine up, and she was a little taken aback initially by the unique look. Of course, now, she's got one on order :) , all it took was one drive.

I'm white and live in Detroit. I find that I get a better response and cool comments from blacks more than whites.
Since blacks are on the cutting edge of music, style and whats truly new and different, I take it as a sign that the Element not only looks great but is also a new and different cutting edge style.

I drove past a bunch of hippies protesting in Taos. THe only guy who said it looked kewl was a black guy. Dropped a friend off at a ford dealership to get his car fixed and two sales associates came out asking about the car. I loved it. Hard not to open doors and show off. Somebody is going to steal it soon if I continue :-)

My friend bought a Ford Escape about a week before I got my Element. She kept saying how it looks like a box. I said, "All SUV's look like a box, mine just has style thrown in!". She keeps saying it's 'odd looking'. Luckily, I bought it because I liked it, and I don't really care what other people think.

Some people right now might think the Element is "well you know" but wait a year or two from now and see what they'll be driving. As most of Honda enthusiast know this is probably one of the few times that the company come out of the box regarding its designs of its car in the U.S. One thing for sure other companies will be following and building Element-Like featured vehicles. They know that Honda has answered a group of people whose wants has been answered. Space, versatility, fuel efficiency, durability, reliability, affordability, real world driving, all in the same sentence and all in one vehicle. Can't say that with any other car out there not even an SUV. Oh! and the look the the Element. That's just an added bonus. Again can't say that with any other vehicle. There is no other vehicles out there like it. Not right now anyway. That's just fine with me. :D

Element owners could use a small aggressive emoticon type decal to put on their doors, maybe something with an "elemental" emphasis. Maybe a fire elemental on the orange or an earth elemental on the green.

Something that embraces the outlaw image and thumbs its nose at the naysayers.

I tell people who say they don't like it that that is fine, if they liked it I would let them pay my payments for me. I tell them also that it is a bit unique and different but then so am I

Definately what attracted me to it in the first place. Don't let it hurt your feelings, they are just jealous

Coming out of the home Depot the other night, I was walking next to another gentleman walking to our cars. As we started to get near the Element he said pointing to it "That looks like its from outer space, like aliens brought it down and left it in the parking lot". As i pulled out my key I said "yeah, its great that its different". If you want to hear some good feedback, take it to a home depot on the weekend. I had five complete strangers climbing in and out of it at one point. Park it near the contractors area they're more utility appreciative.

Had a group of middle schoolers circling my car this afternoon when I am out. All asking 'What is it?', 'Whose is this?' and 'How do you open the back doors?'.

I opened it up and they all ran over to see. Said it was very cool and 'Man, you could live in that thing!'

Another woman (a grown-up) called out that it was 'the most ridiculously cute car' she had ever seen!

The whole truth and nothing but!

I love (d) my E. I really enjoy the way it looks. I do get insuted when people call it a baby Hummer though, as I lost all respect for the company once GM took over cut the cost in half and made them look neutered. But anyway a guy at work told me that I would never need an alarm because it loks so bad on one would want to steal it. He also said to watch out because It looks like a foreign car and peopel don't like foreigners. LOL He's a huge ass. I can honestly say whoever has saw the insdide of the E has loved it, no matter what they thought of it before. So far chicks dig the E the most around here. On a different note why are most of the E owners in northern california acting all stuck up? I wave in a brotherly fasion and they are all turning their heads away or ignoring me. Its ot like they are common...prolly only see 8 or so around a 100 mile radius. Maybe other drivers are ashamed cause theirs are all dirty and unkempt. So NorCal E drivers...please wash your E's and wave. Rant over, :)

I was following a cattle truck last week on the 15. One (or more) of the "dead cow walking" decided to do a last defiant act and I got sprayed at 70 mph. (I think I need new washer fluid!)

Better yet, " It's not ugly, you just have no taste"

On another site I saw the Element ranked just below the Pontiac Aztec. I don't think it belongs anywhere close. The old AMC Pacer is right next to the Aztec and the Element is nowhere on the screen.

She was tring to tell you that her taste is strickly in her mouth. Everyone I know that's seen my Element thinks it's really cool. Personally (and I even have an Art degree) I think it's beautiful. In a world where all new cars look the same how can anyone not appreciate the Element?

Two things about ELement beauty:

1.) I had a neighbor's boyfriend, who just pulled up in his new Mazda RX-8, ask me if the fenders were really plastic, or just painted that way, in a "holier than thou" manner. His girlfriend loved the E, though, and I would rather impress the hottie, I guess. My wife disagrees. I asked him if the RX-8's rotary engine REALLY burns 3-5 quarts of oil per 3000 miles like all the car magazines say. He was somewhat speechless.

2.) The number of people who have asked me to "open her up" here in blue-collar Pittsburgh is astounding. I have shown the interior and demonstrated it's functional attributes to at least a dozen people, some just walk up unintroduced and ask. They all walk away with a better opinion of the E, I hope. Of all of the SUVs and sports cars I have owned, the Element gets more positive attention than negative attention by far. 12:1 is pretty good.

For so many of us Ephiles, Function=Form.

Okay,

I just have to tell my story.

Not long after I bought mine, I was gassing up at a local station next to this young lady filling up her car. When she was done, she comes over and asks "Can I touch it?"

"H'mmm, pardon me?", I ask. Then she asks, "Can I touch your car?". "Oh, sure" I say rather deflatedly. Then she makes a comment about it being the ugliest thing she's ever seen. I showed her the inside, but I don't thing she was impressed.

Waaah! My feelings are hurt!
Why did you let, your feeling be hurt??? Because, someone you don't know, made a comment, you thought didn't validate you opinon of the E.
Why did you buy an E?? because you like it. or because you thought everyone else would like it??
Tell the lady with dog, dubbed " the ugliest dog in the world" you think her dog is ugly. Do you think your opinon mathers to her. She loves her dog.
I Love my E. When someone say's What an ugly car. I say, Mind over Matter.... I don't mind, you don't matter.

Then make the barfing gesture back at her.

I gota confess the first time I saw an E I laughed a little, did a double take and said, HUH?"

Then I found out it was a Honda and said, "hmmm, there's gota be a reason..."

Then I was at the dealer having the carb of my Civic Wagon worked on ['nightmarish!' I over heard a tech say], and I saw an E in the showroom.

The salesman came over, a gung-ho kid, and I asked about storage. I swear to God he knew each of the 70-something seat-arrangement combinations, and he just whipped thru em...bip, bang, bop! I duno, something came over me!..The Voices, they were back! "E's your car...That's IT...DO IT!" I started having these feverish dreams...

You watch, it'l be like the Old Beetle, 'ugly, weird, and dang furrin car,' will morph into
'ingenious, Economical, Work Of Art , ICONIC!'

And then there's re-sale value.

So, when someone bashes my E, I'l kno what to do, put on my best Jimmy Carter grin and flash em the V-for-victory sign. THAT'L disarm those bashers and maybe even make some converts. Are The Voices contagious?

As a new E owner, I think a lot of the appeal was that a lot people thought the car was ugly (friends included). I guess the E, and the ownership of one sums my personality up perfectly... and that is...

"What makes you think I care about what you think???"
"I live by my own rules...within the guidelines of the law, of course:grin: "

Dang this is a long, dragged out thing. I too thought it was ugly and said they would never sell. Well I own one now and love it. Next time someone tells you that your car is ugly tell them, "Hell yeah and I love it. Must be why your husband/wife took you in." After all opinions are like the, uh well--- lower unit. Some have one some are one!

It demands some sort of response like Winston Churchill would have made: "Yes, and you're stupid but I'll be sober in the morning." That kind of thing.

Or Mrs. Doubtfire: "Oh, poor dear, compensating for smaller genitals, are you?"

I told a coworker that I had contacted Honda for permission, to ask if he was cool enough to ride in it. They said yes, but that he couldn't touch any knobs.

I would probably ask a stranger why they thought their opinion meant anything to me. Then I would say, "This vehicle is leaving in 15 minutes; please be under it."

Usually, most people that I see think it is ugly, but after they see the interior, the mind changes. Some people actually thinks it grows on them. Now, when I bring friends snowboarding, they feel the Element is awesome. It is just perfect for everything.
