I have a major dash rattle up near the defrost vent on the right side. It get pretty loud at times. Just wondering if anybody else has rattle problems.

Sounds like wires/cables/caps are clearly hitting the top of the dash over the instrument cluster. The tapping sound is very noticeable even over just slightly bumpy roads. Gotta bring it into the dealer have them tighten up things/place some sort of insulation in there. Will be interesting to see what they say.

Still love this car, though, and all the attention and smiles it gets!

I just noticed the same noise on my E yesterday! I was wondering if I had to take it to the dealership- guess I should. :(

I have the rattle, but mine is on the driver side of the dash. I find that if I apply some light pressure to the dash at the defog vent, it clears. Took it to the dealer, and because it was raining, he said his tech wouldnt be able to do anything (go figure)?? Anyways, I am going to try to shim the area in a couple places and I think that may take care of it. Will advise.

No dash rrattles (yet) @ 2100 miles but I do have an annoying "creeking" sound in the back somewhere that I can't find. It's not the shocks but it seems to be related to the suspension. I am planning to bring it in for a dealer-check-up. It's nothing serious but it IS annoying.

The minor rattles that were present (over the instrument panel at the top of the dash and at the A-piallar on the passendar side) have gotten much worse and is quite annoying for a brand new car (800 miles now). Finally getting installed the remote keyless/alarm next week (was on backorder) and will have the dealer check out the rattles. Will report back on results.

I too have a dash rattle that just started at about 3100 miles. Its on the left by the dash vent. If I press on the vent it goes away for a short time but comes back. Just as others have mentioned the rattle goes away later in the day. The only thing I can figure out is that later in the day after the car has been driven something expands and that causes the rattle to go away. Any insight any of you have on this would be appreciated.

What might be happening later in the day is, the E has sat out in the sun all day, many components have expanded a little and some creaks and rattles go away. I find on my '98 Accord I have a dashboard rattle in the winter and not in the summer.
Those of you that get your dealer to actually fix a dash rattle, please tell us what they found. Thanks

Mine rattles, and sounds like it's around the driver's side A pillar. It started a few days after delivery as a very occasional 'soft' rattle on rough roads and is now more regular and higher in pitch. It's mostly, but not completely, when the vehicle is cold.

Mine rattles (driver's side dash near vent) when it's cold. As soon as the car heats up or sits in the sun the rattle stops. Still have a "squeak" someplace in the rear deck though. Tried tightening spare...no good.

My theory is that the origin of the rattle in/near the A-pillar is a wiring harness. I too have noticed the rattle in the morning, but not in the afternoon. This leads me to believe that there is a bundle of wires (small) that is stiffer in the morning when it's cool, but warms up in the afternoon as the sun heats the dash area. The warmth softens the wiring slightly and allows it to sag just enough so that it's not vibrating against whatever. At night, as the temperature drops and the sun isn't warming, it stiffens back up, and etc. etc. etc. Just a thought.

seam to have the same defect.

On cold days near the left defrost vent a hair pulling rattle that seams to go away once the car has warmed up. By placing your hand on the dash the rattle subsides.

Anybody got it fixed ?

Not sure i could endure it much longer... :x

I haven't noticed any rattles yet, I have about 1100 miles now. But my stereo is always on too loud, so I don't notice anything, except my brain rattling! 8)

I've got the driver side dash rattle by the vent. It also seems that there is a passenger rattle to match. I've had my Element for 6 months and have almost 5000 miles. I'm going to have them check the rattle at the first service.

As far as i know, there have not been any one way to quiet the dash rattle.
Working as a service advisor, we have had a few complaints (my E as well) with dash ralles at this instrument cluster. We tried a cluster replacement--didn;t help and also tried an ENTIRE dash replacement---nope, still there. i found the best way to deal with mine is to adjust the tilt a little, pop in some great tunes and crank it up a little, to drown it out some.
Honda is VERY aware of the concerns, about 92% compalint rate, and are working very hard to fix the noise.

Also, rear creaking noise in back? Yes, suspension problem...take to dealer
they have a TSB to fix>

One other...rattle from possible seat belt area, either side. take to dealer, have them place shim behind striker area for problem side, takes about 30 minutes to do.

Then, after that is completed......make sure people arent slamming the back doors, takes very little effort, and will knock the strikers out of place.

Last thing...my e-mail is michaelnchlt@aol.com......if anyone replies, please e-mail me and tell me out to check my replies....can't figure it out, but i'm still working on it!

Thanks, everyone......Mikeyl :?

For anyone with an E that has that dashboard rattle/clicking sound that might be driving you nuts - read through the saga on "Ask the Dealer" under "Annoying Dashboard Rattle Noise". I started that thread to find a solution for this, but so far, I haven't been able to get it resolved. If you have this problem, mention it to your dealer the next time your in his shop - I don't think Honda is aware that this is an issue with this vehicle. I am encouraged that my dealer has another E owner with the same complaint - I think he starting to take this serious!

I will continue to talk to both my dealer and the Honda Cust Svc Rep in CA and am determined to get this resolved! Watch the other thread for progress (I hope).
