Treating interior & the exterior (i.e. vinyl/plastic)

Visited my local Honda dealer today and spoke with the supervisor responsible for collision assessment - he recommended LEXOL Vinyl for the interior vinyl/plastic surfaces & the exterior PLASTIC panels/trim (he said it should be available at Walmart, Target, etc). Note: he was aware of the
negative views regarding Amorall (sp?)

Finally, he suggested using Meguiars wax products for the car body

Does anyone have input regarding their experiences with these products?

I use Meguiar's Polymer Sealant #20. It is awesome! I also used it on my wifes C240. It is the best that I have ever used. It was recommended by a tint/detail shop after I told them that I was concerned about the extreme sun in Florida. It is expensive however (~$25) but to me it's worth it! I also used Mequiar's Trim Detailer on the interior plastic. It seems to work nice, but is a little "greasy". It is supposed to be used on plastic trim, black bumpers, and rubber gaskets. I have not used it on the exterior trim yet however, I am still on the lookout for the best product to use for that. Overall I really like Meguiar's products, I am very anal about my vehicles, and they really work for me!! Hope this helps. 8)

Thanks for the feedback on Meguiars and their products. As a fellow Floridian, I'm going to check out the PS #20. Any idea how it compares with Nu Finish or Zymol for car polish/wax needs?

Like you I am on a mission to learn more about suggested products for the exterior plastic.

Does anyone else have experience/suggestions re: this topic?

Silver, the dealer you spoke to gave you great advice. The Lexol brand products for interiors is fantastic. I use Lexol's Vinylex for my dash and other plastic/vinyl parts and it is amazing. It doesnt have that slippery feeling that Armorall gives and it acutally helps repel dust. It is also a sort of conditioner that will help prevent cracking.

As far as the Meguiar's products, what Sunstoke said! 8)

Yes I use the Vinylex on all plastic vinyl parts/panels both inside and outside(2000 Volkswagen GTi). I use it on the plastic bits under the hood as well (engine cover, etc.) to keep them looking goodand keep them protected.

As I do not own an Element (YET!) I havn't had the opportunity to try it out on one but I would think it would be perfect for the job. You cannot go wrong using it for all the interior applications but for the body panels I would just try it out on an innocuous spot first but again, I dont think it would be a problem.

I have been very satisfied with the Lexol products.

I have used the meguiars spray on car wax and the shiner to use in between waxes and it works great, just be careful because the spray wax can drift in the wind and land on body panels.

I have had the Lexol on the interior of my E for a week. It still looks awesome, best stuff that I have used. It went on very easy with a waxing sponge. I am very impressed, it also seems to protect the interior plastic from scratching, although I am pretty carefull not to bang up my cars.
Today I applied it to all of the exterior plastic, and it looks beautiful! It left it with a very rich look, and even appears to have removed the residual wax left on the plastic fenders that I could not remove! I will report back in a week and let everyone know how it held up! 8)

Saw on another board a recommendation of Meguiars Natual Shine Vinyl and rubber protectant. Found some the other day, and my concern is that the directions on bottle warns to clean immediately any over-spray onto painted and non-painted plastic parts/panels. I am not sure of the exact composition of the corner panels, but assume there is more to them then just plastic. Any opinions/comments?

You could probably just apply it with a wax applicator (sponge), and control where it is applied. I did this with the Lexol product and had great results. good luck! 8)

Picked up the Vinylex at Pep Boys today. They seem to be the only place in San Diego that carries the Lexol brand. $9/bottle.

Does a great job on the panels, especially after washing, driving, and then finding spots from the water that blew out of the hidy-holes. It even removed bug goo from the front panels when I was applying it.

After application, the panels have more of a metallic look than they are shiny (I like that). And since the EX is marketed as having "Metallic Gray" panels, I guess that's expected. This stuff is also supposed to protect from UV light. And it goes a long way like the bottle says. I bought two bottles, not knowing what to expect. I don't think I'll get to the second bottle for quite some time.

I also noticed you can get Vinylex in Pep Boys but not Kragens when I was in San Jose lately. It looks like its good to me. It has 2 patents and a UV shield. Its a silicone based protectant. I can't find it in Canada yet. I haven't decided if I want to silicone all my panels. Will it last and not streak?

Well, I have had the Vinylex on the exterior plastic for about a week now. It did look very good at first, but it kind of smeared and ran after it rained. On a better note, it did appear to remove the wax residue! Also, the interior still looks great! (2 weeks) 8)

I can't find the Vinylex Lexol anywhere here in St. Louis (I took my E ut on a quest tonight) Anyone know where I could find it online?

I did buy my baby some Zymol car polish/wax and some Zymol Touch up detailing spray. I can hardly wait to wash and shine my E this weekend.

The water streaks from just running my front and rear windshield wipes are driving me crazy...I have had my E for just over 24 hours and it looks dirty....I guess I should just get used to it :lol:

Maybe you applied too much? Although the directions don't say to do this, I used a clean terry cloth towel to remove the excess after applying. Seems to be holding up very well so far. Did it on Saturday.

How is the Lexol holding up on panels?

Any stains or discoloring when the Lexel is washed away after a rain storm?

The Lexol did sort or wash away and streak after a heavy rain, it didn't cause a stain however. 8)

Is their anything out their where we can spray some kind of product that would stay on the panels even after a rain storm?

Spraying the Lexol every other time it rains is a choir itself :roll:

Lexol sounds like a good product to use on all vinyl/plastic parts. I have a question though. Do you guys apply it to plastic bumpers at both the front and rear? These bumpers are painted silver. Should wax be used instead?

Also, what about windshield wipers and the plastic lens and signal lights?
I am planning to apply the Lexol product shortly and your inputs are appreciated.

Went to my hardware store, which also carries Marine items and picked up a product called Plastic Polish/Restorer from Starbrite. Says that it is great for everything from aircraft windows to boat hatches. I spread it on and then use clean soft rag to buff . It has been two days and no white residue and appears to be holding up great. Sinc used on boats I don't expect the rain to have any affect. will let you know, but so far it is great. They also make a scratch remover too, but I haven't any scratchs so didn't buy any. P.S It was only 6.99 for 8oz. bottle.

Lexol works great inside, but runs on the outside.

Aerospace protectant 303 looks good on the exterior panels.
