: Cheap subwoofer amp upgrade

I haven't been too active on this forum lately, but I was looking through the current parts-express specials flyer (I am not affiliated with them in any fashion) and saw this (http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=269-175&utm_source=Retail&utm_medium=Email_Newsletter&utm_content=269-175&utm_campaign=email010611) deal. For $10 it might be a pretty good experiment for someone to try and upgrade their factory woofer, or give some nice compact power to an aftermarket woofer in the factory box.

make sure to double check the wiring when playing with that amp. I believe thats a 1 ohm amp which limits your sub choices if trying to stay stock or within the factory box woofer size.

Thanks, this is exactly what I've been looking for!

I just bought an SC console for my LX, would this amp be good enough to power that sub?

It would probably be fine for that. you will only get 50 watts from it though as you will be at 2 ohm load on it and 1 like it needs to see to get the full 100 watts from it. it will probably still be as much true power as the factory amp for it though.

Got any recommendations on any others yoda? I don't need anything expensive just something to make the sub sound decent.

that thing is fine for that. you arent gonna find anything better for 5-10 times that price...

I picked one of these up to use on my sc console, until I decide to start modding that to. It just shipped out today, going to toss it in as soon as I get a warm weekend to work!

So say I replaced my head unit. Now I believe I have no powered sub (seems to be passive with no bass coming out except for rarely). If I would purchase this cheap amp above, I could power my factory sub with my aftermarket head unit?

Thanks!

exactly what i'm going to do with it hockey, btw it got mine in the mail today. Going to be easy I think, just gotta figure out how to tap it into the speaker wires.

are you saying that you already took your stock deck out and replaced it with aftermarket, and now yu dont get anything from the sub? If so you need to get a Metra 70-7863 harness or look at the sticky on how to properly integrate with the EX/SC audio system in the ME section

Please let me know how it works when you get it installed!

i took it out over 2 years ago and put in a kenwood touchscreen. I thought I integrated it properly but I lost a lot of sub power. My sub does work, just very very weak.

By any chance have you checked the sub level on the head unit?

so are you using the 70-1725 harness with rcas for the four speaker sets or are you using the 70-1721 with speaker level inputs? If you are using speaker level inputs and integrating with the sub with an rca that is where your volume issue is coming from on the sub.

I ended up using a RCA for the subwoofer which is what I was told to do at the time. What should I do instead?

I meant the main harness. did you use the rca's for the main 4 chanels or did you use speaker level outputs for those?

so this won't be a good upgrade for an EX with the factory sub/amp?

Anyone install this yet?

I did buy one with the intent to power an upgraded 6.5 sub in the factory enclosure, its not very good and as suspected, pushing maybe 25 watts RMS. Its not really worth the hassle to go through wiring it up. Better off to go with a decent amp you can manually adjust for good sound quality. Not only that, Paarts Express had my order wrong. I ordered two 50' spools of 16 gauge speaker wire and they sent two 30' rolls of 12 gauge. That amp is basically useless since its not adjustable and as mentioned, its not putting out much power.

I got one too, but I haven't done anything with it yet.

Do you have any recommendations for a better amp? It seems like most of them are putting out too much power to use on a 6.5" speaker.

I really don't want to change the location of the stock sub-woofer. So I'm going to go to a custom stereo shop and have a more powerful one built to go into the same spot, while keeping the stock cover in place. That will automatically change my amp options. I've already replaced the stock door speakers and the tweeters.

Nice. Let me know the results and cost. I hadn't thought of that option but I like it as I am trying to stay as stealth as possible.
