Hey ya
Just took a trip from Muncie, Indiana to Shell Knob, Missouri last weekend...
I enjoyed the drive... took me about 10 hours to get there. I was pleased that I got around 24-25 MPG on the first part of the trip... As I moved into the Ozarks... well it dropped considerably. I even waved out the window in St Loius - was thinking the penguin would slap me if I didn't! :)
Driving on the mountain roads was fun! I'm telling ya... there were times when I was pretty sure the taillights I saw in front of me were my own!
The purpose of the trip was to visit my aunt who had moved to MS/AR area in 1985.. She tried to warn me about some of the roads by quoting from the movie "Twister" She told me that she lived near "Bob's Road"
On Saturday we went on to Arkansas to visit my Aunt in Huntsville and an Uncle in Lincoln. On the way to Huntsville we stopped in Berryville, Arkansas at a feed store while my aunt from MS bought some rabbit feed.
While we were parked outside I saw a late 60's model Chevy Sidestep pickup truck pull in... Being the classic car buff I am I was checking it out... The driver of said vehicle stepped out and promptly walked up to my E and was looking at it... This guy looked like the very model of the cowboy... Big hat.... buckskin coat... big burly mustache... boots... you name it.
He started walking up to my window and I was wondering what he was gonna say... Was he gonna say my truck was nice? Tell me it looked like a mini-hummer? Or the dreaded... Ugly!
Well... I'm not sure... What he said was "I'm not meanin' to talk bad about your vehicle... But it seems to me you pulled it off the vine before it was ripe..." He then just calmly walked away into the store...
I looked at my uncle and said... "You know.... I'm not sure if that was an insult or a compliment..." To which my uncle simply replied.. "Yep"
We went on to Huntsville - then to Lincoln. We met my other uncle just outside town where he lead us to his house... I'm glad we had a guide... He lived in the real backwoods of Arkansas... To get to his house... well we turned onto a gravel road.... to another slightly rougher gravel road... to a dirt road.. to a potholed dirt road.... to a muddy dirt road... LOL
When we got there... My uncle seemed suprised that the E made it out there without getting stuck. I didn't think the road was THAT tough... but I'm no expert on that...
All in all - I had a great trip and I had no trouble at all with the E...
I got a couple decent pictures that I need to get on here... Was truly a beautiful sight!
