i had my windshield replaced about 4 weeks ago, and noticed after a week or so that there was some air leakage. so, i called back the repair shop and they came out and replaced the windshield with a new one, but after a week or so the same thing happened. now when ever i am at highway speed and there is a strong head wind a get a whistle. obviously i am going to call them back and tell them i still have a whistle, but i was wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience and what the remedy was.

thanks!

Check the plastic trim bits around the windshield, including the cowling. If this isn't replaced just right, it will leave gaps which will result in what you report. I have removed & replaced these parts for various projects, and from that can report firsthand that you have to be really careful or they will easily misalign.

What I suspect is that the installer made the same mistake twice in doing the job over.

Mike is dead on. I had the same problem. I took it back several times, each time the dealer said it was fixed. It was for about 15 min. By the time I returned home, so did the sound. To verify the problem, I put a strip of duct tape across the bottom where the plastic meets the windshield. The sound went away. With that info I returned to the dealer. They then decided to replace the plastic trim pieces. Since then, no sound, its great!

ghilber and mikeqbf,

first follow-up: the glass repair company that replaced the windshield is sending someone out this friday to check the plastic trim and cowling and make sure that they were replaced/aligned correctly...

2nd follow up:
so first i taped the cowling, but no luck. then i taped the left and right a pillars, but still no luck. then i taped the top edge of the windshield, and still no luck. but then i taped from the rubber trim (at the top of the windshield) to the roof itself, and the whistle went away. i drove my e back home 40 miles on the highway and there wasn't a sound (well, not from the windshield anyway!). i then reported what i had found to the windshield repair company. we are going to chat tomorrow and then i am going to bring it in early next week. the bad news here is that to fix that particular seal he told me they would have to remove the windshield (again). however, at least i know where the problem is and that it can be fixed (i was begining to have my doubts).

oh, on the way home i picked up a new little chip when a rock shot up from the wheel of the car in front of me...

Bum-MER! :(

Well, at least the tape trick worked in finding it.

Good luck!

would be a bigger bummer if i had to pay for them to replace it, but this one is on them!
