I bought an aftermarket backup camera off ebay and need some help. I've wired everything from the headunit back and now and left with 3 wires to connect. Positive Negative and Signal. I was gonna tap into one of the taillights for this can anyone help me out let me know which wires I need to tap into.
Thanks,
Brian

If you tap into a tail light, the camera will only be on when the lights are on.
You had to run a wire all the way back to the HU for the video signal, why
dont you run all three wires back to the HU??? That way you can ground the
camera to the same ground as the HU, and you can hook it up to the amp
power of the HU. That way the camera only comes on when the HU comes on.
If you must hook it up at the back end of the E, you can hook it up to the
wiring that goes to the rear power socket on the passenger side.

I guess if you wire into the reverse lights it would work...

I thought about that too, but if the camera takes a bit to come on, you will
have to wait for it to "warm up" before you see anything.
It would work, just not sure its efficient?!?!

This is the way most cameras are hooked up. OP will still have to run the reverse wire up to the radio from the rear to have the radio automatically switch to the reverse camera.
Is this camera you are hooking up wireless? this is the only reason I could see you needing power at the camera besides just that supplied by the reverse lights.
reverse is green/black at the under dash fusebox, 12 pin light green connector. see attached. can also grab it at the reverse lights same color.

If wired to the reverse light only, it shouldn't really take anytime to come on, the slight delay usually has to do with how fast the head unit switches between sources. Some are faster than others, but most will have a few seconds of delay when shifting into reverse and actually showing an image.
As for connections, I grounded my camera only a few inches away from itself and the cameras power wire I wired in with the head units switched power source, so it's powered whenever the head unit is on. I wired the head units reverse trigger wire to the positive reverse light wire and also to a hidden dash mounted rocker switch. I used a diode to prevent voltage from back feeding. I prefer having it wired this way because it allows me the option of turning it on anytime I want, not just in reverse.8)
