So my friend and I are trying to tackle how to wire up the rear speakers and are stuck. We're not sure how to run wire from the door through the hinge and into the actual cabin. Does anyone have any instructions or photos.

Thanks

Binyellow, your profile says you have an EX, which already has speakers in the rear doors. If you're just swapping speakers, use the wires that are already there. Or are you trying to add speakers somewhere further back? In that case, tap into the wires before they enter the back door. You'll have to remove the side floor garnish and possibly the rear garnish as well (see trailer hitch installation instructions).

Well being someone who has ran wires for other mods through those grommet/connectors, I can tell you it can be somewhat of a pain in the nads to do. :-) If your just doing a simple rear speaker swap and don't really have a need to run a larger/lower gauge speaker wire, I highly suggest going with ramblerdan's suggestion.

If you do plan on running wires through that grommet/connector, you're going to need to remove the door panels, rear seats, entire rocker/floor trim panels and the entire side panels just to gain access to that area and that's not even the difficult part.

To get wires through the grommet/connector, you're going to need to pop out both ends of the grommet, disassemble/open up the plastic angled connector and then fish your wires through the opening. The old metal coat hanger wire fishing trick will work well for getting your wire through the grommet. Be prepared to tear up your hands when doing this, as that opening you're working through is quite small.

after all thats stated above, you can run 12 gauge wire to the door speakers.

Damn thats exactly what i didn't want to hear. I got the wires all run up for the front and even getting through the firewall was cakewalk for the power. Then I saw the rear speakers and how they run up and I was like man i'm going to have to tear apart everything. CRAP...

Thanks, I'll have to break it down piece by piece

I did it and I'm not even a novice. I installed a new head unit, amp and speakers (incl. running new wires for speakers) for the first time. Just take your time and use all the threads that are posted. There's a thread for everything you need to know. Someone has already done what you're trying to do. It is a pain in the xxx, but if I can do it , anybody can.

I agree with everyone else that has posted on here. The factory speaker wires are more that capable for your aftermarket speakers.

However, if you are trying to run new speaker wires because of a four channel amp, the best solution would be to run the speaker wires from the output of the amp to the actual radio harness (this works best with an aftermarket radio).

Good luck!

No offense, but if one is going through the trouble of running their own lower gauge/higher quality speaker wires, then tapping into the higher gauge factory speaker wiring is certainly not going to be best for their application, especially if they are powering those speakers off a high power amplifier.

Would be nice to know whether the OP is running new wires to the doors (to replace the factory ones, which are for some reason deemed insufficient), or running wires elsewhere in the back of the vehicle, tapping into the factory wires in the doors.

> not sure how to run wire from the door through the hinge and into the actual cabin
If running duplicate wires to the doors, it would seem logical to simply follow the path of the factory wires. We must be missing some information.
