Anybody have pictures of where you installed MP3 and cell phone holders in your Elly?

Yeah I am interested in this as well. Haven't mounted my iPod yet, but am thinking of getting that Cup-holder goose-neck arm that I saw elsewhere on this site.

I want it handy and secure, but nothing permanent or console-altering.

Thats my next (last?) accessory to get, so I'll be looking for it soon.

The PDA is the iPaq3955 with a 512mb SD card, mounted by a strip of Velcro.

The phone is the Nextel Motorola i730 mounted on a "Type S" ($7.99) Universal Cell Phone Mount.

The GPS is the Garmin StreetPilot III Deluxe, on the supplied non-slip "beanbag" base.

Isn't that Garmin a little distracting directly in front of you. Almost too easy and convenient to look at. Why not in the center?

How's the cell cradle attached to the dash?
I like the PDA cradle. Not a bad spot for it! :)

Did you mount that iPod...er...windows ripoff of an iPod  ... using a heavy-duty velcro? What type, and what does the adhesive do to the console paint job?

Also the most important question.... What dead animal is hanging from your rearview mirror... ???!!!

hey pal, iPaqs were out waaay before iPods! ;) plus, mine can play mpg, divx, and other video files so neener neener neener... lol.

anyway, nope, not heavy duty velcro, just regular Velcro... the package has a green banner on it stating that it's for smooth surfaces.

as for what it does to the console if removed, i originally had it mounted on the space between the volume button on the radio and i removed it with no problems whatsoever.

I'm looking at getting the Arkon Universal PDA 15" Flexible Gooseneck Mount. The goosneck is supposed to attach to the passenger seat bolt and not require any drilling.

Has anyone else gotten this for their E? Does it fit?

The Arkon windshield mount (9") looks like it might hold my handheld GPS. It is hard to get a good balance between close enough to read and far enough to get good reception.

Hey YodaMAC,
You may have done what you were going to do already since this is an old thread, but thought you might be interested in seeing this since you spoke about the Arkon mounts.

http://www.elementownersclub.com/uploads/files/element_xm1.jpg

This is my first photo post, so I hope it comes out. This is a Sony FM modulated XM radio unit on an Arkon mount (I believe it was a CM-88 which is actually a cell phone mount). I could probably stand something a bit stiffer since this unit is heavier than the cell phone it was designed to hold, but it seems to be doing fine for now.....at least this way you can get an idea of how far the mount will spread from the seat bolt. It requires no modification to anything to bolt in. You might want to check with Amazon.com --- I found mine there considerably cheaper than on the Arkon site.....

kville, how does that holder attach to the seat bolt? I've been looking at that particular stand for my ipod, but was not sure how it mounted or if it impeded seat adjustment at all. Is it possible to bend it out of sight down towards the floor if not in use?

The other Arkon mount I was considering was the power outlet gooseneck (probably non-powered). Anyone have any experience with that device?

Thanks,
Mike

Paddleme,
No, it doesn't impede the seat adjustment as the slider assembly is seperate from the mounting bolt. The mounting piece is an angled sheet metal bracket that is slotted to slide under the bolt head. You should be able to put it in from any direction, but the way the seat bracket is bent up you can only slide in from top & bottom on the 'E. The bracket has a threaded hole in it to accept the threaded end in the bottom of the shaft. The gooseneck is fairly stiff so you can't bend a tight enough radius in it to hide it completely. It isn't a perfect piece, but for the price it does a suitable job for me......seems like I picked it up on Amazon.com for about $14-16 with free shipping.

The one thing I can tell you is to be careful with the wingnut that attaches the top mounting bracket. They made the bracket entirely out of plastic & if you crank on it too hard you'll crack the bottom (like I did.....) to where it won't stay mounted. :? Fortunately, I work with a bunch of machinists & had a metal sleeve put over it to fix the problem. :D :D And just in time for my vacation tomorrow....guess I better get to bed so I can enjoy the 5 hour ride in my 'E with the XM cranking!!!!! :)

Don't wanna get into a whole Apple/Windows depate but iPaqs can do wireless web/networking, email, Word processing, play mpegs/AVI, games, Audio books, operate your home audio system, use blue tooth, work as a camera, and on and on. Not really a comparison of equal products and certainly no iPod ripoff.

But back to the question... I used velcro from the dollar store to mount one back when I had it in the E. 3 strips worked fantastic and peeled off without a problem when I removed it. I also put strips under the gear shift at the top of the sub so we could watch movies in landscape mode when we camped.

that's right! besides, iPaqs came out in 2000, July of 2000 if I remember correctly. Back then I worked at Best Buy and our store had an intitial shipment of 3 iPaqs and me and another guy bought the 1st two in our store! Since then I've upgraded my iPaq twice from the original 3630 to the 3650 to my current 3955. It can already do a bunch more than the CryPod can (aside from the storage), as you can see from the list above, but with a CF expansion pack and an IBM 4GB microdrive... the possibilities are endless. ;)

I'm actually in the process of ordering a new product from Arkon. It's a 12v socket plug mount that includes another 12v plug. So you can plug this mount into the E socket, and plug your iPod into the mount socket.

Easily removeable.
Easy Access for passenger or driver.

The Arkon rep I'm in email contact with is sending me the ordering info on this new product. From the pictures he's sent, I'm pretty sure this is the solution I have been looking for. I'll let ya know.

So kvilledrummer, from your screenname I take it your a drummer?! :)
Me too! Who do you play with? What kind of kit do you have?

Hi Beatbox,
Yeah - I've been playing for a while but the personal kit isn't much. I've got an old set of Ludwig Vistalites that I bought from a guy to have something to practice on. I've been wanting to buy a new kit for a while, but it had to take a backseat to paying for the new house & most recently, replacing my old '92 Jeep that died of natural causes...... At least I got to replace it with an 'E!!! :D

I'm the drummer for my church here in town & that's where the nice equipment resides...7 pc kit of Yamaha Maple Customs in pearl white finish with full rack, RIMS mounts & 5 Zildjian cymbals :) :) :) Someday, my ship will come in!!!!!

Mike.

Check out www.seidio.com (www.seidioonline.com for more pics and ordering) for the iMount for iPod. I just ordered one. It is powered by the outlet, which charges for you, and it provides line level output as well. I really like the look (it matches the iPod well, if not so much the E) and it has gotten some decent reviews from the guys at ipodlounge forum.
