Has anyone been successful with installing a cassette player in the EX??? Books on tape are very important to some family members. The portable player connected into the MP3 jack works, but is VERY inconvenient. Trying to find a location up front is a real challenge, and then wiring it in doesn't seem to be for the faint of heart.

Why is it inconvenient for you? I'm using a portable CD/MP3 player to listen to books on CD (borrow at library - copy to hard drive as MP3 - burn to CD). While the E shelf is a bit too small for the CD player, it works. With a long enough audio cable you could put the player anywhere, along with power from the 12V outlet.

While not perfect, this is working for me.

Our Books on Tape are just that, on tape. When the library gets more on Cd's it won't be a problem, but now with the boxes having 8, or 10 or 16 cassette tapes involved trying to copy to CD won't work. Our portable tape player is powered only by batteries- no way to hard wire it. But, thanks for the reply. Hopefully someone will have the answer. By the way, the dealer can take out the CDplayer, give it to us in a bag, and then install a lower quality radio and cassette player, probably from the DX, for about $450 -$500...just hate to lose the sound quality.

I listen to BOTs as well. Repaced the standard CD/Radio with a Panasonic Tape/Radio and an under the driver seat CD player. It results in the loss of the aux input. It works ok but the tape player functions are all mechanical and no auto reverse. Everything is a trade off! joel

Do they still make cassette tapes? I thought it was illegal now!

Chin, if it's the battery player that is the issue, then I would suggest you get a supply of good NiMh batteries and a good 120/12V charger. Or maybe just a portable with a D/C input.

I think is putting a cassette player in the dash is so last century.

New Element owner, 04' EX 4 WD pumped up audio system with sub woofer.

I have a very silly question. My external cassette player has headphones; where would I get the cable with proper plugs on each end so I can use the cassette for BOT's?

Go to a store like Radio Shack, take in your portable player to be safe, and ask for a patch cord that will connect from the headphone socket into the MP3 socket. The cord will have the same plug on both ends - a very common patch cord.
