: Buzzzzzzzz
Barry horner 03-10-2004, 08:35 PM I am getting a sound that sounds like a buzz. Or for us that remember like when we use to wrap wax paper around a comb and humm. It sounds as if it is comming from the bottom center of the windshild. I have replaced the windshield. I have taped all around the wind shield and the cowl vent. Still get the noise at around 70 air speed. Has anyone else had this problem.

brendan 03-10-2004, 11:44 PM Who replaced your windshield? Honda or a 3rd party?

ghilber 03-11-2004, 07:26 AM Check to see if any of the plastic trim pieces around the windshield are loose. For some reason, when my windshield was replaced by the dealer, they also replaced the plastic trim on the sides.

A third party.

Madwheels 03-11-2004, 12:26 PM Have you thought it might be your wipers?
I have gotten an occasional buzzing and was about to become annoyed when my wife pointed out to me it was the wiper blades... mine only happens on occasion and when I am facing the right way into the wind...
Of course as in all things your mileage may vary :P

Barry horner 03-11-2004, 12:29 PM Good thought. I will check it out.
Thanks

kiweee 03-13-2007, 11:42 AM Barry, I have the exact same problem. We just had the windshield replaced a couple of weeks ago after a meeting with a rock on the freeway. We have what seems to be the same noise at higher speeds. I have been into the shop twice already. They took off the bottom plastic pieces and applied more sealant at the bottom of the glass the first time in. On the second visit, I thought it may have been the right side "a" pillar piece so they removed it and sealed it more. But of course the noise is still there. I will be going back in on Friday to take the guy on a test drive with me so he can hear the noise himself. They have offered to replace the entire windshield if need be but hopefully we can find the problem without having to do that. The work was done at a third party installer but with factory Honda glass. I will keep you updated after my appointment on Friday. Also, please let me know if you find the answer.
cfbales 03-13-2007, 01:45 PM I had this problem as well. +or- a couple of mph took care of the problem. Anyway, it's been over a year since this has occurred so I kind just forgot about it. Still has the original windshield, wipers and everything else. Go figure!

You may be waiting a while for an answer.....this post is from 2004 and the poster hasnt been back since.
hownowcb 03-13-2007, 06:29 PM You might try something oddly simple, too. Considering an Element probably has a higher level of background noise than many other vehicles, I'm still amazed I can pick up the slightest of "abnormal" noises from time-to-time. The only problem is, for some reason, I have a difficult time actually locating them!
However, what's worked to locate and eradicate every strange noise that's bothered me in three-plus years, is to rearrange everything in my overhead compartment, my dash shelves, glove box, door pockets and even my cup holders. Last, I check to make sure the passenger side seatbelt has properly retracted. Whatever I heard that sounded strange vanishes. :???:
I had the issue a couple times after getting my windshield replaced, it was an airleak. I could actually change the pitch of the buzzing by pushing out on the windshield when I was driving...
Anyway, the only fix was to have the windshield replaced again. Safelite in my case handled it under warranry. They actually came out several times and probably put in 4 or 5 windshields before they finally got it right.
kiweee 03-14-2007, 09:36 AM Thanks GIR. I will mention this when I go back in on Friday. The first install they did visit my wife's work place to install but I have went to their shop for failed fixes. They have also offered to replace the glass and are trying but nothing has worked so far. I will keep everyone posted.
kiweee 03-16-2007, 03:58 PM Went back to the auto glass shop this morning. I showed the manager this thread and mentioned that others had the same problem. They have always been cool when I have went in and had previously mentioned replacing the windshield. I will be going in on Monday for a replacement. Hopefully this will correct the noise problem at speed. This time we will be going with PPG glass instead of the Honda factory glass, others seem to like the PPG over the OEM. Keeping my finger crossed and will report back after Mondays reinstall.
Americonium 03-17-2007, 08:32 AM There are plastic clips that hold the a-pillar dress panel. Those clips almost ALWAYS break when the windshield is replaced. If you can wiggle that dress cover, then that's what is making that noise. It happens around 50-80 mph. I have the part numbers in my glovebox if you want, and I think that there are five on each side. That is how I solved MY humming windshield problem.
Good luck
Funny, Autolite replaced mine several times with their standard glass, but for their last attempt they tried PPG glass which was the one that ultimately fixed the problem.
We also figured the trim could be at fault, but glued the snot out of it and the noise continued. It was definately the glass.
kiweee 03-22-2007, 10:22 AM I went back on Tuesday to have the windshield replaced (had to reschedule the Monday appointment). This time PPG glass was used and the install went fine. The shop manager and I both inspected the "A" pillar clips at each visit and actually took them off and put them back on to make sure they were secure. Also the bottom plastic cowling was double checked and sealed. Anyway, so far so good. No reports of noise from the wife (she drives it daily) and I haven't had a chance to drive it yet to check for myself. Hopefully all is fixed. The shop was cool with the entire process and I got to know the manager by his first name but hope to forget it soon (if you know what I mean...even though he was a nice guy).
