I have other things to do with the E's prominent audio location, so I'd like to minimize the amount of real estate taken by the stereo face.

I've seen plenty of 1/2-DIN equalizers, crossovers and even one or two CD/DVD players. Does anybody make a 1/2-DIN receiver/CD?

in all my looking i have never seen a 1/2 din receiver. only equalizers and one center channel speaker for vehicle surround sound.

...as I suspected, I'm ahead of my time - by about 4 years. The manufacturers are current embroiled in debate about "component" car audio/video, including a backplane or bus standard to support mixing and matching various bits on a plug-and-play basis.
