I have been looking at getting new tires for my E for months now. After seeing your post I finally decided to go with the General Grabber AT2 tires. I called the local Discount tire and they informed me that the General Grabber is on back order and they do not know when they will get them in again. He said it will probably be at least January before they can get them. I also found the same thing at several other online tire stores. Has General quit making this tire?

What size are you looking for?

Tire manufacturer's schedule their production based on demand for a particular time of year so its possible that there isn't enough of a demand for this size right now for them to make them. (or they sold out of them quicker than they thought they would this season) This tire, as far as I know, is not discontinued.

I was wanting the 215-70-16 stock size. I might look at getting 235-70-16 or 225-75-16 instead but they cost.

Any General Grabbers in stock now? Thanks

When I was looking for mine I called every local tire shop and then looked at every online tire place I could find and NOBODY has them. They are on a national backorder. After some more research I found out this is the second year in a row that General has sold out of this tire before the snow season even started. I talked to one shop and he said ever since Consumer Reports gave these tires good ratings that General has not been able to keep up with demand.

So, I called General customer service (which is a division of Continental) and asked how a company can sell out of one of there best performing snow tires before the snow season even starts, two years in a row. The lady I talked to was very nice and she said although they increase the production of the General Grabbers AT2 tires in 2011, the customer demand also increase more than they had anticipated. She explained they are currently building a new plant in (I think it was) South Caralina and they hope to be able to better keep up with the demand in 2012. However, she also told me that they would not be producing this tire again in the 215/70 /16 size until sometime in Jan. or Feb. and they would not be available to the public until late Feb. or early Mar.

I ended up getting lucking and finding a guy who had a set that he used just as winter tires and he had traded in his car and they would not fit his new car. He said they only had approx. 3000 miles on them. So far I love them. If you really need tires and you are set on the General Grabber At2. There is a guy who is selling new tires on ebay for $155 per tire.

Here is a picture of my e with the Grabber AT2's

Like weasel pointed out, the 215/70-16 size is still on back order and won't be released until late Feb. or early March. The 225/75-16 and 235/70-16 sizes are also on backorder.

At this time we do not sell any Firestone Tires.

A comparable model that we do carry which would be another excellent pick is the Hankook iPike RW11

An excellent alternative you may want to consider is the Cooper AT3.
