I would like a way to close the back while in the vehicle....I camped in my E a weekend ago and got my bed all made, crawled in through the back and found out that you can't close the back from inside the vehicle...there just isn't anything to grab onto to pull it in and close it. Anyone else notice this???

i was wondering about that the other day as i was watching Oprah's show - had to do with escaping from a trunk if ever kidnapped = and how to find the inside latch -- which evidently we E owners don't have!

My previous two SUVs' hatches could not be closed from the inside. One had a strap, but it could not be reached from inside (although it did have an inside opening handle).

Escape latches in trunks don't apply to SUVs since you technically have access to the regular passenger doors. Because of the rear door access issues in the E, this certainly is food for thought.

It is possible to cut a hole in the trim to reach the latch mechanism from inside. I did it, but have not used it all that much. It isn't that hard to open the front doors.

I just tried it. Pulling-up the tailgate is no problem, there's just nothing to pull on for the hatch. Adding a pull-down handle yourself would be a piece of cake. You'd just want to make sure that you had reinforcement behind the plastic.
