: Geekiest, nerdiest post ever... (Star Trek Related)
Sheniferous 03-24-2004, 12:09 PM Okay, so I like Star Trek... not a in a freakin fanatical sense where I know every character's name and bio or have Trek paraphernalia everywhere... I'm more like a casual viewer who will watch it whenever I get the chance.
But... I read in the news the other day about a fan movement to try and "Bring Back Kirk" and on their website the've posted a "trailer" of sorts of what could be possible. It's pretty interesting to see that this 9 minute film was entirely made by fans and personal computers. Check out:
http://www.bringbackkirk.com/
and download the trailer... for who these people are, it's pretty impressive what they were able to make!
That's all. ;)
MikeQBF 03-24-2004, 12:56 PM Let him rest in peace!
I always found Bill Shatner's over-the-top style annoying, although I have finally come to better understand that the over-acting is an integral component of all of the Roddenberry-inspired series'. I much prefered the "leader" actors in the "Next Generation" and "DS 9" series' once they finally mellowed into the role (and were entrenched enough to wrench the over-acting component away from Majel's influence). Jane Mulgrew ("Voyager"), sadly, is mostly a female Shatner.
It wasn't until Andromeda (non-Star Trek, but still a Roddenberry progeny) that I realized that this was the nature of the beast. I can only stomach about 5 minutes of that show - Sorbo already had over-acting down to a science and he didn't need the help.
:?
(Don't worry - I don't know more than a handful of the characters myself. It still is/was a fun show to watch, especially the babe-du-jour. They know how to pick 'em!)

It is, after all, HERCULES IN SPACE!
The babe-of-the-week theme is amusing, though.
EDIT: HEH! I didn't even notice your last statement before replying...

Empire 03-24-2004, 11:08 PM Ah screw Kirk!
Bring back that green Orion slave girl, Hubba Hubba!
Those silly Trekkies can't let a dead man lie.
They always gotta plead for the use of some sorta malfunctioning lost transporter signal or time portal or obscene old age to bring back characters that should keep their dignity in reruns.
You don't see me bellyaching for the resurrection of Greedo do ya.........
....actually that's not a bad idea
This dude really has the whole Orion sickness bad:

keckhanded 03-25-2004, 02:02 AM That subject line was the first time I ever wrote those three words together. When we were younger me and some friends hung out with a couple of sisters at there house. We freaked out one day when we discovered there brother had a LOT of the episodes on tape... Audio tape. This was before vcr's. But we just could'nt imagine sitting around listening to them.
"Dont get me wrong I love anything si-fi."

T'Pol... Hubba hubba
Dive Hawaii 03-26-2004, 11:56 AM what do toilet paper and the starship enterprise have in common?????
Dive Hawaii 03-26-2004, 11:58 AM they both circle uranus looking for klingons    :x 8) :?
sorry couldn't resist
MikeQBF 03-26-2004, 12:04 PM >T'Pol... Hubba hubba
 That's exactly who I had in mind. I think she's a significant milestone because they actually allow her character to be sexual. The previous babes were portrayed with an adolescent-esque "nudge nudge wink wink" tone, or even asexual, but still eye candy (Jeri Ryan's role).
But, alas, the fantasy of T'Pol was blown for me with a late-night show interview with the actress. When she's not in character, she's a giggling ditz. So much for "exotic".
MikeQBF 03-26-2004, 12:09 PM Hey, Dive... that joke's only, oh, 35 years old. It probably has kids in high school.
Empire 03-26-2004, 12:16 PM What did Spock find in the toilet?
The captain's log.
I first heard it in the 3rd grade and it's still one of my favorites sheerly for the visuals it evokes.
I'm crying laughing right now as I imagine the puzzled yet intrigued expression on Spock's face while he stares down with an arched eyebrow at Kirk's floating turd.
P3,FOYFN 03-27-2004, 06:31 PM Anyone ever heard of the show Duckman? There was this one episode that they did with a Star Trek theme to it. It was pretty comical. The enemy was a chicken dressed up as Kahn, and they had a bunch of those types of jokes. It even had a cameo from Leonard Nemoy.
StLouisPenguin 03-27-2004, 08:11 PM I will confess this only because the whole Star Trek thing was brought up and because I have had a few glasses of sangria....
My friend was (and probably still is) totally 100% in love with Major Keira from DS9.....well one thing led to another and ROAD TRIP up 95 from Philly to Boston to *cringe* attend a Star Trek Convention to see Major Keira.....the trip was very amusing and a great deal of fun.....but to this day I keep the whole weekend a "skeleton" in my life's closet.
Okay now that I have had my "AA" moment I return you to your regular scheduled programing.

 Buuaahahahaha...Geeks.
Redpunk 03-29-2004, 11:41 AM We all know KDan is just jealous of our superior logic :p
Can I be queen nerd? Or should we give that title to Diane? I mean, she did go to a trekkie convention
Empire 03-29-2004, 10:02 PM Over the years I've attended countless Star Wars conventions, comic book conventions, toy shows, and even several anime-cons but out of all that geekdom I kinda draw the line at Star Trek cons. They scare me.

Heh. No worse than the Shatner records. The typecasting of the short-lived original series was so strong that the entire cast was basically unemployable. Fantasy-genre roles pretty much "fix" your career for life.
Which reminds me of that new priceline.com commercial - it's a howler. If you haven't seen it, Shatner is in the "hot seat" being fired by the production exec, and asks "But there's nobody who can replace me!!"... then Nimoy pokes his head around the corner. What a hoot!
