I was wondering if anyone has experienced difficulty while listening to local radio channels on the stock stereo? Mine seems to jump or skip down one channel while I am listening for no apparent reason. I listen to 104.1 and in various random places and random times it jumps to 103.9. I know that it isnt on seek or scan, so what gives?????
Anybody know of something that would cause this? Today it happened twice once when I was driving through the local auto mall neighborhood, and once when I was driving past a shopping mall. It has also happened many other times in other locations.
Help you electronics gurus! I have a service appt. Wed. AM and would like to be able to solve it by then if possible.
Thanks!
Amy

Is your reception bad in general? That could make it seem to be jumping to nearby channels that are stronger.
Perhaps either the power lead to the antenna amplifier and/or the antenna amplifier itself is failing?
Otherwise, the tuner in the headunit might be going bad...

That's the strangest thing I've ever heard - and I've heard a lot of strange car audio bug stories. Yours takes the cake!
That being said - I'd have to peg the head unit as faulty - AFAIK no external component (like an antenna or amp) has the ability to change the station frequency so IMHO I think it must be the head unit.
Please let us know what happens.

Thanks for the responses. I dont think it is the stations reception because it is going from a good reception to a bad reception channel (thats why i noticed).
I'll let you know what happens.

Does this switching of frequencies happen with only the two you listed?
I know I've hated the radio reception over the Sonoma/Napa area. It's something I've noticed over the years. You're driving along listening to one station and suddenly another starts to cut in. It's like there's overlapping coverage areas. I've encountered that same problem in that area with almost any vehicle over the last 30 years (oh, I sound sooo old).

I think the demons may be living in your radio!

OH! Are you saying that you're listening to one staiton (let's is 100.1 for an example) and its sound fades into something else but the station doesn't change - because that's fairly normal in hilly or poor coverage areas.
Or are you saying the display actually changes from 100.1 to 100.3 for example and you hear something different?

I am saying that I listen (usually) to 104.1 and I'll be driving down the road and for some unknown reason the channel on my radio actually changes to 103.9. 104.1 and 103.9 I think are the same station with different coverage areas, because I can still hear the radio, just with major static when it changes. I usually only listen to this station or CDs, so I dont know if it happens on other stations.
I would tend to think it is not the station, but the head unit because of the random locations and times it happens, and because the channel it switches to is not clearer than the one I was originally listening to.
(Although I am no expert on this stuff.)
*Dont know if it matters, but I have 104.1 as my first preset and 103.9 is not a preset at all. After it changes, I can always press my preset button and go back to my original channel with clarity.

Well ladies and gentleman, I just had a GREAT service experience. I picked up my E today from Manly in Santa Rosa, CA after my virgin oil change/stereo diagnosis appointment and it was freshly bathed for free!
Not only did they do a great job on the service aspect, but they were actually able to recreate the problem I was having with my head unit*. They didnt have one in stock, so they ordered one up and I will drop it off again and they even offered me a Courtesy Vehicle!
*The service writer did admit to my husband that he thought I was crazy about the radio.
After I paid for the oil change and went outside, I was again surrounded by sales people who wanted to know all about my cloud rider. I promised to bring them a brochure next visit.
I am one happy Honda owner!!

Not to be a cynic but my guess is that the curious sales people were more interested in the driver than the car.

I'll take that as a compliment. LOL.
Now that you mention it, they were kind of young.
