My wife and I traveled from Houston to Vanderpool over Labor Day, and we cruised with another green Element, driven by a stupid old hippie-type and his friend. (They had Howard Dean for Prez and Peace NOW bumper stickers on their Element)

They went north at Medina and we went straight to Vanderpool.

BTW, I'll highly recommend driving Hwy 337 between Medina and Leakey, and staying at the B&B, Lodges at Losts Maples. (Driving Hwy 337 is #27 on the top 50 things all Texans must do before they die.) Our Element took that winding, up and down, curvy road like it was made for that road!

Just got my SOP EXS 2wd 5-speed on Monday. We live in Houston (as I'm sure you guessed).

I bought it from Mike Pierce at Gillman in San Antonio. Mike was super to work with, gave me a great price, and was well worth the trip compared to the dealers here in Houston. I would highly recommend him to anyone who can fly Southwest or who wants to take a drive to San Antonio.

I signed up for the meetup on meetup.com, and wondered if that really works or not... Not that we will all be super-best buddies because we have Elements, but it would be fun to go somewhere and goof off and have 12 Elements all in a row...

I'm proud to say that 9,000 miles later I keep falling in love over and over again with my lunch box. I'm glad I had the sense to have checked into this website! I look forward to learning from others and hopefully sharing some info with you too!

Some have mentioned fuel economy as being a slight dissapointment. I do a mix of highway and city driving and am managing 28 mpg. I've noticed fuel economy has steadily gotten better as the miles have piled on.

I also noticed a slight quirk in the E when I first bought it. As the E was approaching its 5,000 mile scheduled oil change, the oil dipstick indicated that the oil level was borderline low. I checked for leaks but there were none. The oil was almost crystal clear when it became due for the oil change. I am now approaching the second oil change at 10,000 and the oil level has remained solidly in the normal range.

Did anyone experience this issue?

SM in Highlands, just east of Houston. I've seen one E in Baytown and I think I'm the only one here in Highlands! I do drive Beltway 8/288/Hwy6 on a regular basis to dive.

We just took a week long road trip in our Box to the Hill Country. Up and down all those hills and we still got 25+mpg! Like Mike said...the E was made for those curvy hills!

Yeah, the Austin area was what came to mind. Having lived in El Paso and driven to Austin, even though it may be central, it's still a pretty good drive (10 hrs as I recall). But demographically, for the biggest populations in Texas, the Austin area would probably be it.

On the other hand, what's more fun than driving the E?

I'm not a native Texan but I understand Austin is "it" from many people's POV. UT/A is happening...lotsa natural beauty around it...a little something for most everyone. Better warn anybody who hasn't been there about I-35, though.

Got my new 2006 Atomic Blue EX-P 2WD AT on June 3rd.
As of 7/22 I have about 5400 miles on it.
Took wife and 14 yr. old daughter to Hayesville, NC (abt. 2 hrs. north of Atlanta, GA) and then to Pensacola Beach, FL. in it.....very happy with it at this point.

Who has got Es in Texas

Well,...mine was in Texas for two weeks earlier this month. Spent two nights in Fort Worth (stayed at Etta's Place), ate well, saw the magnificent cattle drive at the stockyards (not) and just soaked up the ambiance of Sundance Square. Next we were at Brenham at the Blue Bell Creamery (yum, ice cream) and went to the Texas Renaissance Festival (the reason we went to Terxas in the first place). We later wound up in Galveston were we spent three nights, hit the Spot and Casey's, toured the Bishop's Palace, photographed the ruins of the Flagship Hotel and walked on the beach. I think half of the carpenters, plumbers, electricians and high line stringers in the Midwest are down there. On the way back to Kansas we stopped at the Terrace Cafe in Kemah for lunch and discovered that they proudly serve Railean Rum made in San Leon, Texas.

It was tough going home but then it always is after a vacation.

Okay, the next time we come down I'll give you all a shout before we leave.

This trip was rather free form. We had reservations @ Fort Worth for the 3rd & 4th and we wanted to be near Huston on the 8th & 9th so that we could do the Texas Renaissance Festival. We allowed two days in case of rain.

Other than that we had no plans. We spent a whole day at Old Spring Town and later only went to Galveston to see if there was anything left (we have vacationed at GI several times over the years).

So, maybe next year.:)
