I just installed the Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 in my E. I had to cut the back out of the speaker compartment to give it enough depth. Is there anything that I can buy to kinda rebuild the back cover. Someone mentioned to me that there is.

One of these guys might do it:

Just installed the Infinity 652i speakers in the front doors. What a difference. However, even after mounting directly to the door I am still having trouble getting the grille to fit complete flush again. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi- Just installed the Infinity 652i speakers in the rear doors, slightly better, more clarity, less muddy/hollow through the mids. No problem with the grilles back there as there is more depth. Gonna do the front doors next with the same speakers when they come in. I thought Element-J had success in the front doors with these speakers, mounting them directly. Anyone else install these and still able to get the front grilles back on flush? Element-J, any suggestions, what's the trick? Thanks!

My 652i speakers sat behind the front grill without a problem. I had to turn the speakers until they sat flush against the door. But once screwed in, the grill popped on pretty easily. You might want to try rotating the tweeters to see if it help the grill to sit properly.

I also had to rotate the speakers while holding them in position - at a certain point they dropped back into the opening and all mounting holes fit flush with the plastic surface.

You also may have to reposition that strip of soft foam with adhesive on it that is stuck to the grille. Tolerances with the 6.5" Infinities are tight.

Thanks, guys! I'll keep all of this in mind when my 2nd pair for the front doors come in next week. Since there are already tweeters in the A pillars (with I assume some crossover somewhere), does this prevent the 652i's from producing highs in the front door panels when I replace them? I'll keep everyone posted on my experience with the install next weekend.

Hi,

I guess I'm wondering why everyone is so crazy about Infinity? Is it just because people have documented a successful installation of them?

There is an enormous array of extremely well made, incredible sounding coaxial speakers on the market made by high-end audio manufacturers that put Infinity to shame - for the same basic budget. Most of these companies offer speakers that cost even less than Infiniti and STILL sound better IMHO (no offense to all the Infinity owners out there).

Get the best bang for your buck (pun intended) and check out some of these offerings (all should fit in the E without modification)...

Focal 165 CA's ($130):

I've just installed the JL's - they sound great but I'll be moving them to the back doors when I buy either the Eclipse or Focal's. :)

"I guess I'm wondering why everyone is so crazy about Infinity? Is it just because people have documented a successful installation of them?"

I got the Infinity 50.5 CS components (2 midrange, 2 tweeters and crossovers) and a pair of 552i 2 way speakers for a total of $200 on-line.

I have Klipsch, Polk and Denon at home. The speakers discussed in thee post above all have excellent reputations. On paper some speakers sound absolutely fantastic. For the criteria of price-to-performance, the Infinity actually performs better. The actual real world sound differences are insignificant. For the money, I'm glad I chose the Infinity's. I also have a a Kicker 8" solo-baric subwoofer as part of the system. If price was no concern, I'm sure I could have done something totally "off the hook". For the money, my system will definately hold it's own

System:
Kenwood MP3 head end
Infinity 50.5 components
Infinity 552i 2-way speakers
Kicker solo-baric 8" subwoofer
Kicker amp.
Total cost approx. $600

Do the top three fit without any mods> Focal, MB, and JL?
Would one put coaxils in the front and back? Or only in the back and componet the front?

Thanks EE

I have never installed speakers before, only stereos using kits from Crutchfield. But the DX Model has piqued my interest in really modifying a car. Does the DX model come with speaker cables in place or do you have to wire the whole car? How easy/difficult is that to do?

The DX model comes with speaker cables in place already. All you need to do is hook them up! 8)

I wanted to put Infinities in the front but the guy at cruchfeild mentioned that i would have problems with the grills going back on so he suggested the polks. Also I noticed that you have to be careful about the depth of the speaker as well because of the window may hit it when it goes down, now in the back there is more space in the grill area and the back. Hopefully this helps

Picked up my E last week. Although generally pleased by the sound system I know, from replacing the stock speakers with 4 Polks in my HD Ultraglide, that a speaker upgrade is an easy way for significant improvement. So I am planning to do the speaker upgrade. I've got B&W 801's at home to satisfy that ultimate audiophile itch, so for the E I'm interested in ease of install and most bang for the buck.

My questions: Which speakers will fit without surgery?
Where can I pickup the adapter harness?

People are saying that they are getting 6 1/2 's in there, but you have to becarefule because the grill sits on there shallow. I happen to have infinity 505cs components in the front, they are 5 1/4 with adapter rings and i have Polk 5 1/4's in the back. aso check with cruchfeild
