Question for anyone with a hitch!

Where the hell is the wire harness connector for trailer lights? Everyone says "oh, behind your passenger side panel in the cargo area." You mean I have to take the entire side panel off considering there is no "panel" there to open to begin with? Or am I just being stupid and missing something? How do I get to the thing? Please help!!!!

go to the handa website. they have complete instructions:

http://www.handa-accessories.com/element/elementhitch.pdf

though if you search these forums, there have been several people posting quicker ways to do it

Check out the excellent last post in this thread: http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8147

I saved the photos to my laptop and will have it out in the Element when I de-construction and re-construct it!

yes you have to remove the panel. it is not very hard. generally flat head screw driver will pry it apart just follow around the outer edges. you might have to unbolt the seatbelt.

Dan needs a spanking... wait.. he likes that sort of thing..

You do NOT have to tear out the passenger side to do this, it is far simpler than Hondas instructions. I did it by removing the seat, the threshold, the spare tire cover and "Peeling" (for lack of a less violent term) back the rear panel over the harness. All fit back in perfectly, less than an hours worth of job, including the actuall hitch mounting to the body of the E.

see here: http://www.elementownersclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=36232&highlight=harness#36232 and go to the links in the first post.. you'll see what I am talkin' bout, boys...

I have a friend that is a Honda electrical specialist. I am going to have him do my trailer and fog light wiring for me. I'll make sure he sees the links to the easy way to put in the trailer wiring. It'll give me a chance to see if they know the shortcuts. Also, to quiz him if they do it the short way in 30 minutes and then charge four hours.

I am not using Honda parts, either. U-Haul and Walmart got everything I need.

I installed my trailer wiring harness today and all went smooth. I routed the wires into the spare tire well then through two holes under the tail gate flap and down to the hitch. Yup, I cut the wires and reconnected inside the spare tire well with crimp connectors. Less than an hour. ...but where I connected the harness there was another small unused connector...what is it for?
