I noticed when I open the door to get in my E after unlocking with remote key, I hear a short beep. Does anyone know what the beep is for :?:

When you use the remote it flashes the lights. When the lights flash and the key isn't in the ignition it sets off the 'your lights are on' beep. So as the lights flash twice, the beeper inside goes off twice at the same time. If you're quick when you open the door after unlocking (as the lights still flash) you'll hear the trail end of the last beep. No worries. :)

It's supposed to do that. The parking lights flash twice when vehicle is unlocked. With the lights being "ON" twice and the vehicle being turned off, you get the "lights left on" beep. Mine has always done this. If you don't want to hear it just wait until after the lights flash and then open the door.

I have a terrible problem with beeping. When I unlock the car, there is a shrill, long beep that goes on for 20 seconds after I unlock the car, I can't shut it off and it's really annoying when you pick up a girl for a date and your car is annoying her. Anyone know how to disable the beeping? It's driving me mad! I wouldn't however, sell my E for just that, I love it too much.

Nevermind, I fixed it. The problem was because when my car unlocked, it turned on the parking lights on for 30 seconds and caused my car to beep at me to tell me that I had left my lights.

My 05 EX obviously has keyless entry. When I unlock with the key fob and open the driver's door; an ding-dong electronic tone sounds. The same tone sounds regardless if I use a single push (only drivers door) or a double push (all doors).
Went to delership and tested two other 05's. Both produced same electronic tones. Sales/Technical staff were not aware of this condition and had no answers. Owners Manual is no help. Why did Honda engineer this feature and what does it signify???Tone does not occur when "Key" is used.

My '05 is the same. Always wondered about that too.

I've noticed it too. The only thing I could think of is if you're sleeping in the car, you'll hear if someone else unlocks the doors.

I had the same thing happen in my last car after I had a lo-jack keyless entry installed.

The tone is the same tone the car makes if you leave the headlights on.

If you watch, the ding matches up with the parking-light flash.

So, the keyless-entry flashes the lights, the car goes "oh, the lights are on, door's open, key's out of the ignition" and dings to tell you.

Bit of a logic 'bug'.

My 05 does the same thing, however the electronic beep is cut off at the end, making the beep sound like a mistake or problem.. I was worried about it, but then forgot it..

Mikey is right. It's only doing it because you are opening the drivers door and the vehicle thinks you have left your lights on during the 2 parking light flashes. Open your door within the 20-30 second time limit after the second flash and you'll never hear the "lights on" beep when you open the door.

I have remote entry.

I walk to my E, I hit the unlock, I open the door, and I hear dinging, like I took the key out with the lights on.
Now if I hit the unlock RIGHT before I open the door I hear 5 dings
If I hit the unlock then wait say 10 seconds (I did not actually time this).. no dings
If I hit the unlock then wait 5 seconds... 2 and a half dings.....

Is this normal or is my E dinging too much?

Thanks,
-Mark

I think you have a normal amount of ding-age. I read a post somewhere else on this. If you're walking to the car and you open it from 20 feet, there will be no dinging when you open. But when you open it right after the remote, it dings more. Not sure why. Mine does the same.

that is normal every honda i've owned has done that same thing. and it always beeps the same number of times you just don't hear it when you wait to get in.

This has been explained before but it's because your parking lights flash twice to show the car has been unlocked. Whenever your lights are on and the driver door is opened it thinks you are exiting the vehicle while leaving your lights on during those 2 flashes. If you wait until after the second flash and open your door it will not beep. If you open anyother door besides the driver door during the 2 parking light flashes, it will not beep. If you are inside the vehicle with the door closed and hit the unlock/lock button, it will not beep. It's only the combination of opening the door during the 2 flashes that you will hear it.

After I unlock my truck via remote (pushing twice for all doors to unlock) when I open my door there is sometimes a dinging sound. I think it may be the same one that sounds when you take your key out of the ignition and the lights are still on. ( I think it sounds the same, is not caused by this). Any ideas? It's done it since day 2 and someday I hear it and other I do not.

I started to think it was me opening the doors quickly after being unlocked when it is still doing the unlocking thing. You know -- the exterior lights always blink twice when you push the button. Help!!!

When you unlock your vehicle with the remote (the lights flash) and quickly open the doors you will hear the warning that the lights are on.

I think this has to due with how fast you open the door after unlocking. I get the "ding" almost everyday.

presto88
12-22-2006, 09:31 PM
I noticed that too, Heather.

When I hit the unlock button the parking lights flash twice. If I open the door while they are flashing I hear the dinging in sync with the lights flashing. If the door stays shut, no ding (I left a window open so I could hear it).

My conclusion is that the dinging is the alarm that tells you that your lights are on. You know, the one that starts making noise as you get out of the car with your lights on. When the lights flash, they are "on" for a moment. If your door is open at that time, then you hear the "ding". Made sense to me, once I figured it out. I haven't worried about it since.

Great! Thanks you 3!! That is what I assumed, but just in case I figured I'd get it taken care of now if there was an issue! I do think it's an odd attribute for the truck to have though!! Hmmm!

Just curious when entering the vehicle after unlocking with the keyless entry it emits a single loud beep ?

bofus
12-23-2006, 04:18 PM
This is the alarm that sound when the lights are on. Unlocking your vehicle causes the lights to flash twice.

When you use your keyless entry to unlock the doors, and you open the driver door does it beep then. Not sure why, it must be a comfirmation of some sort, so I never worried about it.

Here is my question...when I unlock the door with the remote, the door chime goes off for about 1 second (if that) as soon as I open the door, and then stops. Do the door chimes always go on when the doors are first unlocked? and if so, is it so short that you wonder if there is a short in the wires?

I know, I know. I have tons of questions! But I want to make sure my new E is perfect, especially considering that I just purchased it. Ahhh, it's like I'm a first time mother....thanks for being so helpful!!

Justinb845

it is normal. that is the same chime that comes on when you leave your lights on. Trun off your car and remove the key from the ignition and leave lights on if it is the same chime no worries.

If you wait a couple of seconds before opening the door, you'll notice it doesn't beep because the lights are done flashing.

The alarm system turnes on the parking lights and the chime thinks the lights were left on by you. The alarm is back feeding the lighting system. BEEEEEEEEEEP...

I hate it when other people quote entire posts, but your grasp of "gadget logic" is so utterly transparent and unprecedented, I couldn't resist, slimerdogs! Odds are 99.9% that your deduction is exactly correct!

Was just going to post this exact question. I thought maybe there was a problem with the switch on the door-frame or something. It's sort of a half-chime that usually cuts out half-way through. I really thought something was shorting out. Glad to know it's normal!

Search before posting works for me!

I've noticed on my recently purchased SC that I occasionally hear a little ding-deng when I open my door.

I can't figure out what I'm doing, because I only hear it on occasion. It may do it all the time, and I only hear it when I unlock the door when I'm close, and hear it as I open the door.

Can anybody enlighten this new Toaster owner?

BTW, really like the vehicle. :-)

The headlamp warning chime will sound anytime the door is opened with the headlamp circuit energized when the key is out of the ignition. When you use the remote to lock or unlock the vehicle, the headlamp circuit is pulsed to give you visual confirmation of the command that you entered with the keyfob. You are occasionally opening the door while this confirmation pulse is occurring, and hearing the warning chime as a result. No worries.

When I unlock and open my drivers door using the keyless entry the New E makes a sound like I left the headlights on or the key in the ignition. The ring is cut short and it only does it once. Is my E just saying hello or is this weird?

Bowzer

Your parking lights flash twice when you do the keyless entry. You are hearing the "Lights On" chime as it completes it's warning when you open the door. (It only sounds as the lights are cycled on...and it is a bit annoying.)

When i use the remote to unlock the car, then open the door, i notice a beeping sound. Only lasts a second or two, maybe two or three beeps, then it stops.
Anyone else notice this? Any input?

Anyone else notice this? Any input?Yes. The car flashes the lights when you use the remote to unlock the car. If the door is open while the lights are on and the car is not running, it sounds a warning chime. Hence, you're hearing the lights-on warning chime.

I noticed that too but I can only think it's because I'm unlocking the car too close, i.e. standing right next to it. I don't think it makes the beeps while I'm a good distance away, it's weird and I wonder what causes it. I always that it was the E telling me I'm too close while using the FOB to unlock the car lol

ramblerdan

It's not a matter of how close you are standing to the car, but how many seconds elapse before you open the door.

Threads merged. Not a 2010-specific issue anyway.

Had my element for a little over a week now and I'm starting to notice something wierd.

Occasionally when I enter the car I hear about half a second of the "you left your headlights on chime" when I open the door. It chimes very briefly, then goes off by itself without me doing anything else.

I'm using the keyfob to wireless unlock the door before I go in. I haven't actually used the mechanical key to open the door yet.

Is this "normal" to occasionally hear the chime when opening the door, or is something unusual going on?

The answer is here in this thread.

At first I thought the ding dong sound was made because I pressed the unlock button when I too close to the E and it didn't like it. I never heard it when I unlocked the E from afar. It makes sense that it's the lights being on ding dong sound lol.
