Are the E's sold in California exactly the same as the E's sold elsewhere in the country? Due to California's strict emissions requirements, I was wondering if the state requires any tinkering with the vehicle that could impact performance and/or gas mileage. Thanks.

All Elements meet California requirements out of the box, so everybody benefits (or shares the burden, depending on how you view it).

I know, goducks, checked them out myself. Great prices! Until... you add tire tax and state sales tax. Couldn't get around that and I tried! But I'm very happy with the deal I got here. Good hunting! :)

thanks for the info, edison. isn't the tire tax only $1 per tire? i'm surprised to hear you say that sales tax was an issue. dealers in washington and idaho have confirmed that they sell to oregon without sales tax.
which oregon dealer(s) do you recommend? i'd really like to stay around invoice (or less) on a 5-speed EXS. the best prices i've heard are in the high $19000s.
thanks again!

if you buy in cali but live in OR you do NOT pay sales tax. tax is based on where you are a resident! since OR has no sales tax, all you will have to pay is your license and registration fees in OR, once you get the car back there. the selling dealer in cali can issue you a limited time trip permit to get you back to OR.

joeBoxer: what I thought, but 3 different cali dealers told me I would have to pay sales tax even if I was going to register and license it in OR. :?
The deal I eventually got here was excellent so even if I was misinformed, I'm happy. :D
goducks: You can get better than that. I went (by email) back and forth between dealers until the last one said "no mas", then sent it to The Amazing AutoWoman. She beat that quote and didn't charge me any fee - the dealer paid her. That process worked for me and (nearly) eliminated any actual in-person contact with salespeople. :) I mean, by doing it via email, I didn't have to actually even be dressed to car shop (except for the test drives, of course). :)
FWIW, my most pleasant pre-owner experience was with Capitol Honda in McMinnville - both in emails and in-person.
