Hauling bees! We drove to the Saratoga NY to pick up our new bees and there was an SOP E from Vermont, there too, on the same mission! A bee hauler - who'd a thunk?

(I know you're all wondering, so I'll 'splain: we lost our bee colony due to the harsh winter this year and went to pick up 13,500 replacements.)

How much is a bee going for these days?

So, if all 13,500 bees were to fly around inside of your E, will your E float in the air? We already know E floats on water.

Queens are $10 and mere workers are 3/10 of a cent each!

As you can see, the dog enjoyed the trip:

http://groups.msn.com/BicyclingForumPicPost/virtualbikeride.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=7214

and the bees are all moved in to their new home:

http://groups.msn.com/BicyclingForumPicPost/virtualbikeride.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=7213

(this was taken DURING the move - for those of you who are wondering the box on the ground is what they were transported in. We didn't have enough little car seats for all of them)

ahh he lives,

Sort of.

been too long since i have seen you post, great to hear from ya!

Combination of things- I've been busy and it's been kinda' dull on here...

bees you say..funny i really thought it said beers at first..

Oh hell, I already KNEW it worked for hauling BEERS! On it's inaugural trip home from NJ (where I bought it) we stayed overnight in PA. Since we were too tired to go out to eat (and we had the dog with us) I ventured out from the motel in search of pizza or something and a 6 pack (we only wanted one or two beers). Owing to PA's screwy liquor laws, the only place I could find that even SOLD beer sold it only by the CASE. (Now there's a brilliant way to cut down on over-consumption!) I was about to just say t'hell with it, when I spotted a case of Victory Golden Monkey, (which is hard to findaround here). I bought it, we drank 2 (1 1/2, I think) and I brought the rest home. So on it's maiden voyage home, it was carrying a case of beer!

So how did the E meet at G'burg go? I realized at the last minute that I was supposed to lead a group ride for the MTB club that Sunday and I had to work Friday night, so I missed out. If you guys ask real nice, I might be inclined to host one later on in the summer...

TWO WHEELER:
I am so glad to see all is well and fine!! Yeah! I figured you were wrapped up.. it happens.

Ahh that is a classic start to your E.. on its first trip hauling a case -2 beers.. and yep that is a great rule, and way to curb consumption..you can not have one but you can buy a case.. love it.. ahh insane huh??

I love the pix of your pup in the back.. aww looks so content!

Nice bees ya have there.. and what not individual car seats for each.. cruel you are.. hee.. (I am dangerously allergic to bees.. so not a hobby or occupations i could undertake).. more power to ya!! neat task to take on!

I missed the meeting in gettysburg too.. my hubbie had to work late the night before, and was on call.. so that curbed that.. so i missed out too.. i did not want to make the trip solo, more fun to share!

We have been busy too trying to get things ready for a grand move to the west, so when i can take a breather i am checking in.. nice little escape from all this stuff..

She loves to "go". As long as she's "going", she's happy.

It was "bee pick-up day" at the bee place, so it was pretty crowded and there were quite a few kids there - she's a SPAZ for kids.(She came from a house with 7 kids under the age of 7!) She even got to slobber one of them! (There also was a little girl who got stung by a stray bee, who was crying - Zoe was very upset by that...) After all that excitement and a 2 hour ride, she was sort of tired.

(I am dangerously allergic to bees.. so not a hobby or occupations i could undertake)..

I'm mildly allergic and, to tell the truth, bees used to creep me out. Now, having worked with them some, I find them fascinating and they're almost never really aggressive.

Two Wheeler: aww zoe does sound like she did have a full day.. not wonder she looks so content!

I am not creeped out by bees.. drove me and still drives me nuts when people hyper spaz when they see bees.. waving their arms like a nut.. i just want to smack the heck out of them.. i just stay normal.. and if they land on me..i let them hang out till they are ready to go forward.. i rarely get stung.. but just when/if i do it is not pretty.. then again it has been many many many years since i was last stung.. i may not longer be as allergic,i just no desire to check and see..

my favorites are bumble bees.. i love them.. i love when they land on me too.. that is the coolest feeling!!

Hey!

Well, if there's any interest, I might be persuaded to coordinate a weekend type thingie. It's easy to get here -I'm right smack dab in the middle of NY state, only about five minutes from I-90 and a half hour from I-81. For accomodations, there's a state campground and a Day's Inn within about 10 minutes in either direction. For stuff to do, there's the Boxing Hall 'O Fame, a small cheesy amusement park (think "1930's"), a casino, some outlet-type stores (about an hour away)... since there's a contingent of bike riders here, I might be persuaded to lead a ride or two... a chicken BBQ is a possibility.... I know where everything is, tell me what y'all want!

Bees, by themselves, only bothered me a little - because I got stung when I was about 4. Bees in LARGE quantities....well that's another story. The thought of opening a hive full of bees would have creeped me out. Now that I've opened the hive a bunch of times I know different. I still wear full gear, but I'm a LOT more relaxed. Usually, you open the hive on a warm day with little wind, when a large portion of the population is out foraging- after a little smoke, the bees usually just fly around, more confused than aggressive. We did have to open the hive on a 50 degree day in December (because we were afraid there was a mouse in the hive) and let me tell you - they let us know they weren't happy about it!!!

If I'm not mistaken, bumblebees have no stinger. We had a nest of them in the lawn, and I used to be able to stand right over the hole and watch them come and go like an airport!

I'm about 2 1/2 hours to the left of Hillsdale. I'm only about 15 minutes northwest of "the exact geographic center of NY State". No, really! I can take you there! (There's nothing there- it's an empty farm field- but it's shown on a map I have somewhere).

So just for YOUR convenience you're suggesting we shoot for end-o-July/early August? Sheesh!

Well, yes!

Ok, actually, my schedule is packed, see...end of July I'll be up there (though busy July 21-25 here: http://falconridgefolk.com/ ), so I'm not even sure if I should try to influence things.

Beginning of August I'll be in Ireland...

Just watchin', maybe tapin'. Looks like I'm flying solo for the trip, so if the meet is the weekend *before*, maybe I can take the whole week before/of the festival off and make a road trip of it as I've got family in NYC and CT.
