Ok, I have yet to have found a decent eye doctor... so this has been a constant quest, so each year I find a new doctor and hope for the best. Well I officially found THEE worst Eye Doctor ever... (Ok maybe there is someone worse... so I would love for others to share their horror stories...)

(Also this is regarding the worst eyedoc, but heck share your any doctor horror that can prove to be interesting too!)

Ok... Appt March 16, 2004. I should have turned and ran when I saw the number of religious plaques in the room, but I was stuck in the exam room at this point. Here is part one why I should have run (OK and note I have no issues, with religion or religious people... I have friends of all faiths and all levels of each)... sooo...

Ok note also I am an optician so I do have various pet peeves when it comes to poor ethics & practice in optometry...
ok now when I arrived they did no history, did not check my existing specs, did not request the name of my previous eye doc, & did no pre-exam..

Now I am in the exam room, the doc comes in, he does not go through preliminaries... he immediately went into a sermon... oh my gosh it was unreal... it was over an hour sermon, in my face!!

Eventually he is aware he should be doing an eye exam, so he does a five second better/worse, did not do dilation, nothing... I was in horror over his whole procedure...

I go check out frames, since I wanted to get a back up anyhow... I pick, I paid in full, and I was amazed over the attitude of the optician and staff...

I am told my specs will be in, in a week, 2 weeks pass I call, they are in I am told... humm... so I go in, I can not see out of them (go figure) and I see a gash in the one lens.. So I should not have been called in at all... they should have corrected the lens gash before they had me come in... So that irked me... so the doc re-exams...

Another 2 weeks pass, I had to call AGAIN, I come the sign says they close at 5pm; it was 4:30 the doors were locked... I had to come another day... I try again... some other girl was there to dispense but had no clue how to adjust the frames... and humm I could not see AGAIN... but I chose to try them the next day, since starting fresh in the am might be ok.. Giving them the benefit of the doubt...

Well I was sick the next day due to the rx... so I returned don't you know 4:30 again and the doors were locked... but I saw someone inside, so I got here attention, I had prepared a paper (in advance) with my old rx, my former doctors name address and phone, along with mine, and the specified materials etc.. I gave them to the gal and I said I do not wish for any hassle, just make them my old Rx... and call me when they are in...

Ok so now we are at 2 1/2 months since I ordered my glasses, I had to call again to find out if they are in... Sigh... I go in, and the attitude was sooo much worse... I pick them up, I am shaking in anger so I did not look them over (when I am that angry people have found themselves in the hospital so I wished to be more calm before I said a word.. or hope I did not have to).. I go home... I am fried there was a blatant obvious flaw in the lens, looks like a bubble burst on the lens, but could not be cleaned off..

continued...

continued from above:
So I had to drive up AGAIN... I handed them over; I asked do they even look at them before they call?? I said correct them, and call me when they are in with out flaw; with the correct Rx... thank you...

I left... went home, wrote a letter to my insurance complaining and a letter to the doc with the same complaint... I asked for a partial refund due to the fact it would be about 3 months till I might receive my glasses correct! Due to the attitude, the driving back and forth and the time wasted, I deserve a partial refund at least. If I come in to get them AGAIN and there is anything wrong with them I will expect a full refund...

Well they have chosen to mail them to me instead of having me come in, go figure... and made no comment of any money back, so we shall see if they arrive, how they arrive and if there is any refund at all... and then I have to go from there...

But 3 months for A pair of glasses... oh my gosh... I was an optician for a LONG time; I never, ever put anyone through that... I kept contact with the labs, I kept patients posted on the progress, if I ever receive a pair of imperfect specs, I contacted the patient let them know the status and I sent them back... I am astounded that several times over this doctor's office would allow flaws to pass to the patient... and the quality, rather lack there of, of the eye exam was deplorable...

Anyhow had to share... had to vent and thank you! Share your stories too please!

Gosh... you ought'a know this... report this idiot to the state licensing board and the attorney general's office... now... while you're still mad.

PS - I'm a bit surprised that after the completely unprofessional office experience you still let their lab fill the prescription.

same thoughts here...you realize that that optometrists' lack of professionalism and ill conduct is rather serious...esp. being a former optician and all.

Yes, this is a practitioner who should not be in practice. Sounds like a quack to me.

Advice to all:
Finding doctors in any and every area matching your needs is a MUST. If you don't like your doctor, find another one until you find someone matching your style and qualifications so you can trust them. I have found this out the hard way, but now I'm at peace knowing I'm in good hands when it comes time.

well i gave them the benefit of the doubt (yes, I should not have).. and then when twice over they screwed up the RX, that is when i asked to fill my old rx in the frames, which the lenses were still flawed (we shall see what the next ones they have chosen to mail me are like)..

and it is not like they are making the lenses they are set out so someone else is making them..

but i still can take them to a friend to verify the rx with their lensometer (don't have one of my own, phooey).. first we have to get past the flaws in the first place!

so at the very least i just wanted a back up pair of specs.. under my insurance before i left the state..

still fighting this.. we shall see IF they arrive (I am giving it till the end of next week).. i am far from done with this matter.. i wanted to see the end result before complaining to the licensing board.. so i have more ammo. I am filing a follow up complaint with my insurance on this matter.. etc..

Yep finding a good doc is an ordeal, and i finally found a family care doc that i adore, and i found a dentist a few years back that i also adore.. the darn eye docs are horrible here.. of course i am moving so i have to go through leaving my awesome dentist and family doc.. and looking all over again.. sigh!

thank you for letting me share.

Update: glasses came in today, ceritfied, etc.. and Scratched..

they included a letter saying they had been checked over, etc, and also to take my business elsewhere.. ahh that is a keeper.

I also received a letter from my insurance co stating they contacted the doctor office (re: my complaint) and went into detail..

So.. though this is saturday and both the doctor's office and insurance are closed, i did not wish to wait on informing there was/is a scratch on the right lens, and state that i did not wish to deal further but am demanding 50% refund.. and at that i will just keep the specs..

If they decline, i will return them for full refund.. and my insurance co will give me another exam and another pair of specs (per there letter)..

I am sure the doc office will decline my offer of 50% refund.. since they did not accept my request for partial refund for the excessive time/wait/hassle/etc.. soo I shall keep ya posted on this saga..

With all this ammo, i now can submit suit to the licensing board. Plus copies of the letters they included with the glasses..

And the story continues..

Updated Update.. ok i tried to use my "New" Specs.. and they gave me a horrible headache.. yet they are SUPPOSED to be the same RX I currently have.. humm...

OK, so i just left a message for the doctors office, that i tried them, received a headache, so the rx is too strong.. so i am now requesting a FULL Refund.. please call me when that check is ready and i will drop off these specs.

I called my insurance let them know about what i am requesting from the doctor, and that i will now need another exam with another doctor and another pair of specs..

So.. we shall see what i hear when i hear it.. And of course, i can always hit my credit card for reimbursement.. but i try to do things direct..

Sigh.. well, anyhow Happy Memorial Day ya'all!

Your advice couldn’t be more dead on.

I have a –great- doctor who was nothing but an advocate for me through a terrible ordeal with my now non-existent gall-bladder that left me 2 weeks in the hospital and a month out of work. I had more complications with a 45 minute laproscopic surgery… I could have been on one of those medical shows on TLC. If I had not had a relationship with my family doctor and if she had not known that I’m not the type of person who whines about pain (i.e. not just in my head or a “low pain tolerance”) I’d be dead. (Just b/c some things don’t show up on “scans” don’t mean there’s not a gallon and a half of bile floating around your chest cavity.)

I won’t get into the gory details, but at the end of the day, have a relationship with that doctor!

I’m so sorry your eye doctor experience was so yucky!

redorange, thank you for sharing.. i am sorry to hear about that.. i am glad to hear all things worked out.. that is horrible to deal with though.

The eye doc thing is still a situation the 4th remake came in flawed yet again, they refuse a refund.. so i contacted my credit card co and hope my dispute of charges goes through.. i mailed the specs back to the doc with my complaint.

I will also be filing further complaints as well.. and am trying to get through to my insurance company.. they said they would approve another eye exam and specs.. etc.. so have to keep calling, sigh!

what a mess.. this is the first time i have ever come across such blatant incompetence, i have seen some poor service before but this is by far the worst i have seen to date.. hope nothing in my life competes with it..

you think getting the wrong perscription in your glasses is bad. I am in the navy I was in the gulf when they started imunizing us for small pox and the anthrax stuf started back up. I was told to go get in line and get my small pox shot. I went and got into line and when I got to the table I told the corpsman I can't have it, it is stated in my record no live vaccienes. he grabbed my arm and gave it to me anyway. the next day everyone else is at morning qtrs but me. They send my buddy down to check on me and the next thing they know is they are hearing over the 1mc "medical response medical response to supply berthing man down". I was in the ICU for 1 month I could barely move I did manage to flip of that corpsman everytime I saw him walk into the ward.

ooh i know my case is by far not the worst.. i just wanted to share the poor ethics.. it is more annoying then dangerous.. by far.. i can cope deal and go somewhere else.. the annoying part is dealing with them and getting my money back.. my health is not at risk!!

I am so sorry for your case.. I know that is not unheard of in the military, it is horrible what enlisted men go through.. it horrifies me.. the men and women who defend our country deserve so much more.

Again i am sorry for what happened to you. i hope you have fully recovered with no adverse effects!
