Hi all -

I am waiting on my E to be delivered this week, and in the mean time ordered an Audiovox plug and play unit and car kit for Sirius satellite radio.

After reading through some of the posts, I was hoping someone could answer a few questions for me (I guess these would be the same whether I had XM or Sirius):

1 - I like the idea of mounting the unit above the subwoofer so driver/passenger can both access and it doesn't encroach on the passenger side. But - are there any good opportunities for hiding the wires? Maybe behind the subwoofer enclosure and out near the AUX and Power plugs?

2 - I'm a little concerned about the placement of the antenna. Are there sufficient places to hid the wire so that it is out of the way of the doors but provides easy access to mounting on the roof? How much wire is actually provided?

Thanks in advance for your expertise!

That's not where I have mine, so ignore that part... however. I have mine in the left most cubby hole on the passenger side (where the plugs are). I bought a 1ft 1/8" to 1/8" cable and both that wire and the power cord hide neatly behind the plug and play unit. The unit also fits snuggly so that there is no movement. The atena wire is pretty long. I haven't played much with hiding mine. It continues along the cubby holes and out the passenger side door. The antena itself is on my roof on the passengar side. I have wire shortened with a twist tie beacuse it's pretty long. I didn't want to do any permanent mounting on my E, no extra holes, so this works well for me. At some point I'll probably try to thread the antena wire somewhere you don't see it, but for now, this doesn't bother me. Also having it on the passenger side gives me reason to use the remote control!

Thanks for the quick reply CSK. I appreciate it.

Having it in the cubbyhole was my first thought, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to reach it while driving. I completely forgot about the remote... that sounds like a great idea. I'll just need to find a handy place to stash my remote!

If I come up with any good antenna solutions, i'll re-post.

I posted this before, but it applies here as well:

I used the magnetic antenna and stuck it right above where the passenger doors meet. I then routed the wire underneath the grey roof cladding, then form-fitted it around the interior door frame (about an inch back from the front of the rear door so you only see the wire when the rear passenger door is opened). I then pulled back the rubber door seal (interior one) and pushed the wire down into that and routed down to the side of the passenger side door panel and pulled back the side panel and routed the wire into the dash above the glove box and pushed out the accessory plug and routed the wire through that hole from behind and put the accesory plug back in. I leave the plug and play unit wedged into the cubby closest to the center console (it hasn't moved yet in 500 miles of driving). This way you see no wires (the plug and play unit covers them up) you can still see the screen from the driver's seat and the remote finally comes in handy.

It's not that stealth on the outside since the antenna is viewable from the top (i.e. looking down at the roof from a window or by someone really, really tall). But at least there were no holes cut and is easily removable.

To make it more stealth, you could route the antenna wire under all the roof cladding, then down the molding on the side of the windshield and then cross it over into the door. I just couldn't figure out an easy way to remove the roof cladding. The length of the wire from the antenna is more than enough, I have the excess bunched up behind the glovebox. I also store the remote in the rectangular section between the cupholders on the center storage console.

Congrats on your new purchase, I've had mine for a little over a week and already have 1200 miles on it and it's a great ride.

I mounted my Sirius antenna over the center of the front windshield. The wire runs under the window seal, under the passenger side exterior plastic A pillar cover, through the opening for the wires leading to the door, down the side kick panel, along the sill under the plastic cover, under the passenger seat, under the center console area, then out the opening under the driver's seat to my Sirius module.

On both sides of the steering column are small cubie holes. Perfect for the Audiovox remote!!! It's about all that fits in there. I have the remote on the left side and my chapstick on the right.
