Has anyone done the Assateague ORV area in an Element? Experiences?

I've camped on Assateague Island before, loooong ago. good times.

I drove a friend's E out on Assateague a few weeks ago, and it scrapes like a bastard -- there isn't half as much ground clearance as I would have liked. All I could think about was grinding sand into the bottom of my friend's brand new car. :P Kept it slow, picked ruts without a high bank of sand in between them, and it did fine traction-wise. Felt painful tho.
