I did some measuring, and the opening on the door speaker of my E are 5.25" across. I've been watching a bunch of people put 6.5" in there's. Will 6.5" fit or is there a difference in the 03 and 04 models?

5.25"s should work fine.

Some 6.5"s will be either too deep or stick out too much and prevent the grill from fitting back on. In some cases, cutting out the cup behind the speaker will allow things to fit correctly (but you should add your own foam cup in that case to provide weather protection for the speaker). If you do cut, be wary of how much deeper the speaker back goes and make sure you have enough clearance for the window to roll down all the way.
