: Head Unit installation Help

I've had my E for about two months now and just tried installing my Alpine CDA-7894. I previously had this head unit in my 99 Accord and thought I'd install it in the new ride this weekend. I was pretty confident that I could get everything to work since I installed it into my accord on my own also, since starting I've run into a frustrating problem.

When I hooked up the wiring harness and tried out the system, the radio would work fine, but once I tried playing from a CD, there would be no sound coming from the speakers. The Alpine seems read the CD properly since the track timer ticks smoothly and I can even see the equalizer bouncing up and down as if there was music being played. The problem is that there is no sound.

At first I thought there was something wrong with my head unit, but I brought it to Best Buy and the guys there said there isn't anything wrong with the head unit and mentioned something about incorrect wiring interfering with the amp - which is causing it to turn off when a CD is being played - hence, no sound.

Has anyone encountered a problem like this? I thought it would be simple enough to connect the wiring harness, but now I know it isn't. Am I missing something? Is there some special way to hook it up because of there's an amp in the E? Please help!

I find this works well when I install my head unit.

I suspect you connected the "remote" line in the honda harness to the "antenna power/antenna on" line on the head unit. That is to say, the amp gets turned on when you are set to the tuner, but then when set to CD, that line is dead and so is the amp. Check the head unit harness again to see if there's a Remote line you could use instead.

Thanks Brendan, I'll look for that remote line on the honda harness. I'm not sure there was one. Just in case there isn't would you or anyone else happen to know which colored wire on the Honda harness is the remote line?

Awesome... as I mentioned, I have been having a lot more trouble with this stereo installation than I initially expected. After all the help I've gotten from elementsowner.com, I've become even more of a true believer!
Thanks!
