TPS... what exactly are we talking for one... unpainted, but primer'd... or one in orange or black. shipping included... (goldsboro, NC if it makes a difference)

Beauty#1 and the Beast

TPS Lizard made a rack for my Element to haul my kayaks, canoe, surfski, and rowing shell. Here are some photos of it with Thule cross bars. The TPS roof rack system worked great on the highway.
Beauty #1 is a Swift Winisk canoe.

Wind deflector (fairing) added to my rack

As EOC members requested and helped in the design. Here is the fairing made of 1/8 alum. plate, powder coated black. I have road tested above 70 mph. Rack complete with rubber insert on cross bars and fairing $750.00 to EOC members & will split the shipping cost. Takes 5-7 days to build and ship.

TPS Lizard Rack #4

Rack #4 arrived by UPS yesterday and was installed on "B1ke Box" this morning. Intended to go for a paddle this afternoon, but by that time the air temp was 46F and falling, and the wind 16 mph and increasing. If it doesn't rain tomorrow then for sure.

Why yes; that is an Xb in that box.

Just going by Sam's club to pick up a cabinet for the shop, 76x44x18 goes about 150 lbs
Try that with your load warrior.

We lifted the sides, and walked it off the rear of the E.

The complete Rack weighs in at 30 lbs.

Does this rack work with a sunroof?

I may be one of thefew that actually takes the sunroof out when the weather is nice.

roof

I have an EXP 2WD therefore,no sun roof. I am looking for EX AWD to take hard measurements on sun roof. If you would be so kind Open your rear lid an measure forward to the first edge of the glass and then the forward edge and let me know where the opening starts and ends? pics would be wonderful. I did measure the height of the glass off the roof while open, during the first build of the rack. I was lucky to park next to an AWD EX at the cable TV office. on that E the open height was less than 2".. The hard to find sun roof in this area is baffleing.

thanks
Mike

sunroof question

Behold; the power of the web... Found an AWD EX right here in town.

The answer is yes, it works with sunroofs. Sunroof glass starts 6 1/2 inches from the rear hatch..continues forward 25 1/2 inches, rack rear tube is 20 inches from the hatch. That leaves the open glass sloping up to the rear 18 inches past the rear bar. At the glass highest point the edge is under 2 " off the metal roof, under the bar you would have more than an inch clearance. when rack is loaded with long items, the rear tube of the rack would protect the open edge of the glass sunroof by the thickness of the tube and 1/2 inch under the rear tube.

You are the third person to ask this question, glad I checked the local inventory today.

Good news for everyone with a sunroof. I'd been asked the same question by several AWD E-ople that checked out my rack.

I am trying to picture the dimensions that you give. My main concern is if I could still take the sunroof out with the rack on.

sun roof removal

I don't know how to remove one, what is involved?

the royal pain

Once the latch is undone the glass has to be flipped up to 90 degrees to lift it out.(a royal pain)
Normal opening and closing of the sun roof is not changed by the rack.

You would need to unbolt my rack to remove the glass completely. All four mounts.

The GOBI Rack, which is what this thread is for TPS, does allow you to remove the sunroof. It has a removable section that can be taken out for the removal of the sunroof.

I like to remove the sunroof recline the back seat just a little then get up on top and walk around. It makes it a lot easier to remove bikes from the top.
