I could have bad info as I'm only judging based on what I read in this thread. My sis has a '10 auto AWD...maybe I can convince her to crawl under it and take a peak.

The dampner is a MT only part. It was never used on automatics.

After coming back from the garage to try and (unsuccessfully) get rid of the 'back-end bump', I'm gonna try and tackle the sway bar bushing replacement, thanks to that other post. I must admit, I'm no mechanic, but if I can get those four bolts off, then I'd be embarrassed not trying that one myself...

Anyhoo, while having a look, I just found this little fella that I guess they decided might be one of the causes. Not impressed with their solution...

If my head swells enough from the successful replacement of the bushings, I might have a go at swapping out the dampener.

BTW what's the rubber hose that terminates just near it? I thought it was something cut, but I noticed it in one of the other pics someone submitted?

lizzurd is right. did diff change today and that hose routes to some black box then into the rear diff. never seen a diff breather like this before. i wanted to take the black box off to see what it was exactly. i'm thinking maybe some sort of filter or valve. don't know, maybe next time i'll take it out.

Rear Differential Damper????

Does anyone know what this is? I found it on the rear differential mount diagram, but it doesn't list it on the parts list. Mine just rattles around and looks like there should be some bushings holding it in place.

Tis indeed the rear differential damper, used on MT elements only. Lots of thread on it, here is a post by ramblerdan with a good pic and the part number: http://www.elementownersclub.com/for...d.php?p=916904
