Clutch, tranny or ? mystery problem
My ride - '06 E AWD with manual tranny and 108,000 miles
Can't find any info on this problem and need some help. Driving home late at night in the middle of nowhere with spotty cell coverage (murphy's law right?), cruising at 60mph, I start hearing what I thought was a flat tire with a little vibration with it. As I try to maneuver off the road and give a little gas for the momentum to get to a safe spot, I virtually had no power. The engine would rev up but there was very little power going to the wheels. Strange thing on top of this was the speedometer was acting more like a tachometer. The needle was moving up and down in unison with the tach. Of course the tires where ok. Trying to drive it again to figure whats happening, I could accelerate but no umph and the engine revving up to get it moving was almost like a failing automatic tranny, but as stated mine's a manual. When I first started driving it again, there was a little sound from under the vehicle, like someone eating kettle potato chips (except a little louder of course) . It shifts fine into every gear. Stopped again and tested the clutch, I put it into fourth gear and slowly released the clutch to see if it would stall and it did so. No check engine light or codes. Not wanting to do further damage, I got a 90 mile tow back home and into bed at 5 a.m. Thanks AAA! A little background: Less than a month ago and under 1000 miles, I had the clutch replaced due to a metal failure around a spring on the clutch plate. They may have resurfaced the flywheel instead of replacing it like honda recommends. They said they installed an OEM clutch. What/who is the OEM clutch made by? The one installed was a exedy corp. Daikin clutch HCC541 with O.D. 230, I.D. 150, PCD 254, Type DU Any ideas about what is going on will be greatly appreciated! This is my first Honda, always heard about their reliability...so far to not impressed. Loved it up until the last month or so. Last edited by Rhinoculips; 12-01-2012 at 03:56 PM. |

Sounds like someone didn't get the axle back in place. It would also do this if a CV joint has let go.

Could it be a bad clutch? Or worse the transmission? Last edited by Rhinoculips; 12-03-2012 at 08:58 AM. |
